It's the Most Awful Time of the Year

I hate this time of year.  It has nothing to do with the weather but with the fact that the trade deadline is coming up on Thursday.  I hate waiting to see if one of the players I have put my heart into cheering for is going to be traded to another team.  I just hate it.  I never did like the trade deadline but I absolutely hate it since the Perk trade devastated me along with the team.

I hate all the rumors.  I am positive that people are sitting in their parents' basements just making up stuff and throwing it out there and pretty soon it has been tweeted 50,000 times.    It's like there are dueling headlines one right after the other that contradict each other and every one of them has sources giving them absolutely believable information.

And what about all those sources.   Every tweet seems to begin with "sources say" or "according to a source" or "a league source says" or something to that effect.  When most of the things that these "sources" say don't come true and we find out later that they never were even an option, you have to wonder who these sources are.  Are they ball boys, secretaries, hair dressers, bag boys at the supermarket, or Madame Simone down at the fortune telling stand?

Isaiah Thomas makes a tweet and the whole world goes crazy.  Suddenly, every star in the league is headed for the Celtics because he posted the same emoji before the Horford signing.   But then Andre Drummond retweets it and the internet is on fire.   Now he has tweeted an hour glass.  I would think that means he's anxious for the games to start again.  But no,  after thousands of retweets,  we get the theory that Paul George's shoes have a logo that looks like an hour glass and so now PG13 is heading to the Celtics and plans are in the works to cut James Young so he can have his #13 when he gets there.

One minute you read that the Bulls have said they absolutely are NOT trading Jimmy Butler and then a few minutes later you read that they would gladly trade Butler if the Celtics would just give up Jae Crowder.   Personally,  I would much rather keep Jae.  With him, you know that the chemistry is there. Also,  Crowder is a better defender and is more versatile than Butler.  He also is more efficient on offense.  Crowder and Smart are the heart and soul of the defense. I really hope they remain Celtics.

First, the Pacers are in no way considering trading Paul George but then a few tweets after that you read that they are taking offers for him.    Sources say that Danny will give up the Nets pick for George but not for Butler but then that changes a few minutes later and the Nets' picks are both in play for both players.  And Andre Drummond is available for the right price but they want a King's ransom for him, but definitely not the measly ransom the Kings got for Boogie Cousins.

Then, there are the Carmelo Anthony rumors.  First he was out because he has a no trade clause and only would wave it for select teams.  Then the news was that he would waive his no trade clause for the Celtics.  Then the rumors were that the Celtics weren't interested in Anthony.  Today the rumors were back that the Celtics were indeed interested in Anthony.  Personally,  I don't want Carmelo Anthony, period.  I don't see him fitting in with this team.

And just when you thought it was as bad as it could be,  there are rumors that Blake Griffin is on the market and suddenly there are bunches of rumors about what the Celtics are offering for Griffin.  I don't want to give up core players for him either.  He hasn't been the same player since all the injuries hit him.  If you read the Comments from the Other Side from the Clippers game you'd see that most of the Clippers fans want him benched.  Nope,  I don't want him.

I root hard for the Celtics.  I love every player on the team.  I cried for days when Perk was traded.  I still follow him and root for him to do well in every game he plays. It's very hard for me to see long time Celtics traded, especially the ones that they drafted and that we watched grow as players on the Celtics.  So when the trade deadline comes around I get nervous.

I love this team and don't want to give up any of our core players.  I wouldn't be against a smaller trade for PJ Tucker or for Andrew Bogut,  both of whom have been in rumors connected to the Celtics.   According to the rumor mill, both Bogut and Butler sat out practices today.  That started a whole new batch of rumors.  I just can't wait for the deadline tomorrow to pass.  Until then, I'll be a nervous wreck, refreshing twitter and hoping that Danny doesn't do something rash.

  1. I thought I was going to spend less time on Basketball this past week and get some other things done. But alas, all of what you describe has led to it not being so. I'd say "sad," but I don't want that connotation. So I'll just say go Celtics for Friday and on. I'm hoping for 5-4 over this next very difficult 9 games and then 10-6 the rest of the way to get us to 52 wins. I think that is obtainable, and maybe even more if we don't disrupt the chemistry.

    1. Thanks for the comment Ronald! It's like a train wreck that you just can't look away from! You hit the nail on the head by saying that hopefully they don't disrupt chemistry. This team has great chemistry and removing any one of the core guys could destroy that, especially the defense.
