Comments from the Other Side - SL vs Jazz 7/6/15

In spite of the loss, it was fun to have Celtics basketball back again.  As with many games last season, the Celtics started off strong and then let up and let the Jazz get the best of them.  The Celtics had said going into Summer League that they wanted to be the best defensive team in both leagues.  They are going to have to go a bit if they want that to happen.  They let the Jazz get to the basket way too easily and they were out rebounded by 20.   Well, it's back to the court tonight against the Sixers, who are very strong in the paint.  My favorites are in bold,  what are yours?

Hood is gonna go off on these fools.

If you could redo 2014 draft would you take Smart over Exum? I’m still super optimistic about Dante but I think Smart would be an awesome fit with our current team.

Smart would have been super with this jazz team

I think both will have great careers But I’d love to see some of Smart’s edge in Dante

Too early to tell But Smarts shot is looking much better

Smart airball lmfao

Sloppy play by both teams ... Must be Summer League.

Jordan Mickey looking good for Boston.

Mickey feasting on our bad SL bigs.

I like Chris Johnson He is Better than Millsap

Got to love Smart's confidence.

Cotton vs. Smart is just a mismatch.

I hate to say it but at this point Smart has a much better command of the game at this juncture. That's not a hit on Dante, but he is controlling everything this far.

Boston hit gold with Jordan Mickey if his jumper has improved like has shown this game.

Boston pressure style ****Ed us up in the regular season too.

Smart on pace for a 52pt Summer League game

Boston keeps crowding it and forcing a bunch of turnovers.

"We made the right pick at #5 last year." I quietly reassure myself, sweating from the pain of inner panic…

Hood just killed someone I don't know who BC summer league

I love Exum, but that open-mouth thing is going look very bad when he gets to my age.

Exum was definitely challenged by Smart's confidence in the 1st quarter and came out and matched it in the 2nd quarter.

Smart did play well. But he always seems to struggle against taller opponents. But he was playing well.

That drive Exum had against Smart where he jabbed from the corner three, little hesitation crossover to the right and exploded around to the left was incredible. Not many guys can do that to Smart.

Boston is starting one of the NCAA's best shot blockers form last year (Jordan Mickey)

Exums with more FT's in one summer league game than the whole regular season last year

Exum just needs to stop the mouth breathing and I'll be good.

It's just his way of making his opponents think he is tired when he isn't.

At this point I still thin Smart is further ahead, but he not 19 years old.

I love how everyone is thinking Exum is a superstar because he built up enough courage to attempt a layup. He's looking all right. I think the correct emotion here is, thank god he doesn't look like a bust, there might be hope afterall.

RJ Hunter doing nothing. Called it. He's a bust.

Glad Dante brought some fire The Exum/Smart duel became interesting (15/3 vs 12/2)

Celtics just love popping limbs out of their places.

Smart looks pretty dang good

Yeah, but he hasn't been able to stay in front of Dante

Smart looks really confident

Huge difference already since last season He’s going to be really good

It’s only been one game but Smart is everywhere, filling all across the stat sheet. Inefficient though

Think he has great court vision People don’t remember but Danny ainge turned Celtics into dumpster fire roster last year

His shot selection is pretty poor But again, that could be due to the roster

James Young has been awful Not sure what everybody saw in him

Biggest difference between Smart and Exum this year Will be that the Cs could be Smarts team. Not really a strong guard/wing lineup on that team. Certainly no Hayward or Burks

They definitely don't have the pieces they need yet Their rebuild is a few years off still

Wow at #12 on Boston, nice looking shot.

I leave the room for two minutes to come back to find my 7 year old watching Jessie on the Disney channel instead of the game. Let me know if anyone is looking for a child for a good price

Hood and Exum are the best players on the floor right now.

Shooting on Mickey without putting a body into him is a mistake.

Smart is a flopper.

Smart flops are hilarious

Cant wait for smart to start getting fined for flopping

He plays in Boston...you've got a long wait.

Not even close to the Clipper players level flopping

Smart hooked Caveman and pulled him down

Lol at smart getting a flagrant in summer league. So glad we have Exum.

It's summer league No one needs to get hurt because of boneheaded plays. Does he get fined?

No way that was a flagrant...

If Smart hurts Exum I’ll not be happy

Our summer league games draw about the same attendance as an Atlanta hawks playoff game 7

No point to risk injury to guys under contract in meaningless games against scrubs who are trying to make a roster by trying too hard.

I know it's Summer League but I love the fact we dropped 100 points down in a 40 minute game!

Anyone else notice that Smart was trying to body-up on Hanlan near the end of the game-- Hanlan must be wiry strong. He didn't get bumped off his spot or lose his dribble.

Cooley screen knocks Smart on his ass

Hard to enjoy that screen when Exum sprains the ankle directly after it.

****ing Terry Rozier.

Smart is a very nice player.

I like Smart, but his confidence borders on being a chucker. Also the flopping is truly unbearable. He is going to create a lot of enemies in the league like he did with Cooley tonight.

His shot selection is terrible. But he's young. If he learns to pick his shots, and many young players do, then he's a good two-way player with all-star potential. I'd still take Exum though.

In other news Hood was the best player on the floor followed by Exum, Sweet!

Smart is soo bulked now lol. He's more like a D-end or middle linebacker than point guard.

And he still manages to fall down all the time with his arms flailing...

Give me Chris Johnson over James Young any day of the week.

That's the guy who does the DraftExpress scout videos.

James Young had BUST written all over him.

It's also exciting when you consider Exum played that well vs. Smart and Rozier. Smart is one of the better perimeter defenders and Rozier was a very good defender in college and projects to be a better than average defender at the position for the NBA level.

I'm glad the SL is back in SLC, I'm just embarrassed other fans have to hear our commentators...

All the Boston fans on realgm were calling Exum fat...

Pretty embarrassing for them. Our fat guy worked the Celts, big time.

I thought he looked a little doughey myself. Kinda like Boris Diaw. Didn't seem to slow him down though.

At least I hope Exum today learnt the lesson about driving into the lane and being careful about stepping on feet, etc. He drive into the lane more today than he did past 3-4 months so this is a valuable lesson for him.

Exum cant help that Terry Rozier is retarded.

RJ Hunter - holy crap. He looked Jimmeresque defensively. Sure, he couldn't throw it in the ocean on offense, but defensively, he was scary bad. The fact that he's so skinny doesn't help, but didn't move his feet and just looked helpless regardless of who he was defending. What's worse is that this is a three year college player who will play next year at age 22. Not close to being NBA ready.
