A Few Random Thoughts on Isaiah Thomas's Off Season

I've always been a glass half full kind of person.  Every year as the new season approaches I get excited and always expect a good year for the Celtics.  This season is no different.  I know that I see the world through green colored glasses, but I really do expect another fun season.

One of the most visible Celtics this off season has been Isaiah Thomas.  He's kept pretty busy playing in the Seattle Pro Am and putting on camps and he's been out there making headlines.  He had wrist surgery in June and was expected to miss 2-4 weeks. It seems that he was completely healthy by July 26 when he posted 50 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in a game. Twenty of his 50 points came from the free throw line. If you want to watch his fun performance, here are the highlights.
He has continued to shine on the court in the Pro-Am right up until the Finals when he led his Ball Don't Stop team to the championship over the Drew League. He finished with 24 points, 14 assists and 9 rebounds along with another highlight reel.
John Lucas, who has seen plenty of players over his playing years and his years of coaching and mentoring players was suitably impressed with Isaiah's performances in the ProAm and posted this tweet assessing his performances.
Sports Illustrated released their top 100 players. Of the 100 players, only 2 Celtics were ranked in the 30-100 that have been released. Isaiah Thomas was ranked at #88 and Amir Johnson was ranked one spot behind him at #89. Former Celtic Paul Pierce was ranked #71. I doubt very much that there are any Celtics ranked in the top 30 but it's always possible I guess. Isaiah Thomas wasn't all that happy with his ranking and he expressed his thoughts in this tweet.
Isaiah also worked out with Floyd Meriweather this summer and beat him in a much publicized pick up game. He also made headlines when he blocked 6'8" Trevor Ariza's layup. Maybe the Celtics have had their rim protector all along. But, after all that, it's time for Isaiah to get to work.
If all this is what Isaiah does on his vacation, I can't wait to see what he does when he is locked in.
