Young and Powell Lead Red Claws over Mad Ants (with Video)

The Celtics assigned Dwight Powell and James Young to the Red Claws yesterday and they didn't wait long to make their presence there known. The Red Claws were on the road to face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and came away with a 1 point win. Celtics training camp invitee Tim Frazier sealed the win at the free throw line with 0.4 seconds left.

Dwight Powell finished the game with 21 points on 9-16 shooting to go with 17 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. I really like this kid and think he's going to be a very good player with some experience. This is Powell's second stint already with the Red Claws. He spent one day or two with the team and scored 29 points in their Red and White Scrimmage, including 19 points in the second half.

James Young also played well for the Red Claws, scoring 21 points on a slightly less efficient 7-19 shooting. He also pulled down 5 rebounds with 2 assists and 2 steals. With the Celtics rotations pretty much set and not including Powell and Young at the current time, it was a good move by the Celtics to give these two young players some experience and the opportunity to play. The Red Claws run the same system as the parent team uses and so there is continuity for the players who are assigned to play there.

Training Camp invitees Christian Watford (3 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) and Tim Frazier (13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals) also contributed to the win as did former Celtic Chris Babb with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

In case you missed the game or want to watch it again, here is the video.
