Comments from the Other Side - Jazz 2/11/17

This was a fun game.  The bench players stepped up and produced in the absence of Avery and Jae.  I loved how Kelly played in this one.  I'd love to see that on a regular basis.   I also love how much respect Isaiah gets from opposing fans.  I like how in the beginning they would take Exum over Smart long term but by the end they are calling him a bust and ready to trade him.  Good to see that other fans hate the sleeved jerseys and not just us.  I found the comment about Pistol Pete interesting because I often think about how I wish he could have played just one more year to get the ring he so desperately wanted.  Pete will always be one of my all time favorites.   I really liked the final comment as it was a well thought out description of the Celtics' system. My favorites are in bold.  What are yours?

I don’t want to be a crybaby-badsport-poopypants about it, but if we lose tonight, Wahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Celtics are probably one of the worst matchups in the league for the Jazz for 2 reasons:
1-They play 5 out, so they sort of neutralize Rudy taking him away from the basket.
2-The Jazz STRUGGLE defending small lightning quick PG's and it just so happens The Celtics have the best small lighting quick PG in the league. IT gonna make us look like a Thanksgiving turkey as he carves up our defense all night long.

I'm predicting the Jazz to suffer the worst home loss of the season tomorrow night primarily because its just a terrible matchup for us. I'd say losing by no more than 20 would be a big win for us and something to really take confidence and build upon.

A win tonight will erase the painful choke job on Thursday. A loss will send everyone to a dark place.

Well I predict a big win.  They embarrassed us on the road and they will step up and beat them in this game.

Will Jae Crowder cry again for three weeks on Twitter when the fans cheer Hayward? I think The Jazz roll out all the stops tonight - statement game. Vegas has Jazz winning by 7. I think they win by 12-15.

No Bradley or Crowder. As long as IT doesn't go for 50 we should have this.

I almost expect him to go for 50 now. Nightmares about those J's he bombed over perfect defense in Boston.

IT is sooooooo ****ing good offensively. Having said that if they are missing crowder and Bradley and we are at home after a bit of rest this should be a win.

Everything is in favor for the Jazz to win, which means that they will likely sleepwalk and sweat this one out. IT could go for 50+ with our scheme and unwillingness to change strategy.

With Crowder out Utah should win.

The "blue-out" concept is hard to get behind, honestly. White-out? A sudden storm? Sure, I get it. Blue-out? (blew-out) literally, a game that wasn’t competitive.

was thinking about pistol pete again from the other game thread I wish his injuries magically vanished when he went to boston. a larry bird + healthy pistol pete combo would’ve been so good

What would Boston have to give up to get Anthony Davis in a trade? Because could you imagine

A lot of screening fouls so far it's rough cause it probably means there will be four calls that go Marcus smart's way that we'll hate

Smart or Dante?

Right now? Smart But I think with him what we see is what we get. there’s still lots of room for Dante

In all honesty though Smart is better right now He’d be frustrating to have long term BC he really isn’t a good 3 point shooter (not like Dante is) and he kind of seems like he is going to be a permanent back up

They hiding Thomas on Ingles and its working.

Man, IT is hard to guard.

Boston just dropped 33 on us in the first.

Celtics are gonna get Hayward!

Boston commentators mentioning how horford deliberately exploited Lyle's poor defence there

Masters of the obvious

Normally I watch any other commentators than Utah But I can’t do Boston. Homer-tastic.

Tommy Heinshon is there home guy that’s a huge homer but he doesn’t do away games now. Scalabrine does away games and he’s pretty good being unbiased as he has no real connection to Boston.

So is IT going to score 60 tonight?

Maybe we can hold him to 50

Jazz just can't hang with these Celtics

Now the Celtics are on fire and the Jazz can make a wide open shot. Unfortunately we are not playing ourselves, because the Jazz are the only team who could blow a lead like this...This one is a wrap.

I blame it on the pajama uniforms.

Home games are so bad this season. Maybe they should get the bandwagon Lakers and warriors fans to come to our home games – for some reverse psychology

This is starting to look like a 'blue-out' game after all.

So...why was that a foul?

Because the refs hate us.

I hate playing Boston

Man at Diaw's size he needs to attack the boards like a buffet table.

Boston's looking like a pretty sweet destination for Hayward next offseason. Hard to resist your college coach and probably the most talented team in the east.

Hayward would look nice in their home whites with that hair of his

You have to remember people from Boston, New York or LA think everyone wants to be there. What they don't realize is it's 2017.

Ah ah so true. Seriously there's like 5 % chance Hayward leaves. You can see it if you take 3 MN reading his blog. He loves everything about Utah and the team. And if he left (he won't) , he would join a great team like Cavs or Spurs, not those bums.

Hill can't guard Thomas. Not a lot of people can right now, but we need some help defense help.

This team thinks they have the talent of the warriors and can just coast at home Theres rarely any effort in the 1st half at home this year. Quin should just start the bench at home from now on because this has been going on all year. Its so predictable now.

Hood's still out. I’m gonna keep using the injuries excuse.

hopefully nike puts an end to the sleeved shirt nonsense I mean if god would have wanted sleeves on basketball jerseys he would have given pigs wings Or something

Gerald green looks like steph curry tonight

Jazz are making me depressed.

Worst defensive outing of the year for the Jazz    Thomas I get, but no excuse for getting torched by Green

And Boston is missing 2 starters - yikes

Gerald Green in rare form

Worst half of the season defensively? Frustrating because despite their record Boston doesn't impress me at all.

Despite Gerald Green not missing and IT not missing and the refs sucking, we're only down 14.

Smart down.

Smart Lebroning.

Remember when we were good at defense... Ah, those were the days.

Boston announcers sounds like the guy who locked himself in a closet on acid and then talked about everyting he saw.

Boston gonna be at least 2nd rd team without Hayward Jazz might not even get there with Hayward

Because Boston plays in the East

Give this f****ng ball to Joe Johnson on offense!

Not wise when he isn't in the game

We are getting screwed These refs are either blind or we are getting screwed

Snyder is an idiot. I’m glad we have a coach that can’t develop young talent and only cares about developing NBA journey men. We are never going to be good at this rate we lose to every good team):

Celtics work so much harder to get inside shots

I hope this team gets boo’d off the court They severely need a wake up call going forward

I was thinking that blowing a 21 point lead to a scrub Dallas team woulda been the wake up call.

Boston has the ugliest team in the league. By far.

I'm done with this garbage for tonight.

Yeah, I'm turning this one off. Don't need to watch Boston get a million open 3's.

Wouldn't you be out for blood after our last outing with Boston? I'm very disappointed. I expected something to counter strategy, and some heart.

What the hell? Nothing compared to the Jazz tonight.

How does Thomas lose his dribble and fall down yet still score?

For the life of me why didn't anyone ever attempt to post thomas up? Defensively, he should've been a liability for them. We failed to exploit that.

The celts are good at covering up his defensive deficiencies. And just because IT is short doesn't mean you get easy post position. He weighs the same as Hill with a lower center of gravity.

Quin Snyder completely outstrategized 2 nights in a row ..

Yeah, but Rick Carlisle and Brad Stevens are two of the best coaches in the NBA.

Brad Stevens >>>>>>>>>> Quin Snyder

Improving our PG situation would go a long way to fixing this team. Lets say we could trade Lucky to be in the League Mack and 5th overall pick bust Exum for a guy that can actually play basketball. I think it would help.

Burks, Hood, Favors, and draft picks for Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson.

Quin getting out coached by Brad Stevens.

who's ready to see Gordon in a Celtics uniform next season?

Green/Olynyk just went off. Another case of bad early defense giving streak shooters confidence and it biting us in the ass.

They play "5 out". That means that everybody stays near the 3pt line, except for when making a cut or a drive. This creates spacing problems for the defense. If you want a visual example, take a look at this 1 minute youtube video.

Of course they go with the flow of the game, sometimes their players are a step inside the 3pt line, and sometimes a big is at the elbow, but on most plays all 5 guys will stay out of the middle. This creates driving lanes for Isaiah Thomas. I don’t know if there is more than 2-5 players in the league that can guard Isaiah Thomas 1 on 1, that’s what makes this so effective. To guard Thomas, you need to help. When you help, and all the other offensive players are camped far away at the 3pt line, then that will always leave a man open if the Celtics can move the ball quickly.

  1. Couple of nice wins to make up for the laid egg in Sac.

    1. Thanks for the comment! Yes, they played well the last two games. Hopefully they continue and don't slip back to the way they played against the Kings.
