Big First Half Helps Celtics Cruise Past Nets in Opener

Kelly Olynyk scored 19 points and Jeff Green closely followed him with 17 more tonight as the Celtics started off their 2014-2015 regular season nicely with a 121-105 win over the Nets.

Olynyk, who played 28 minutes, racked up his total thanks to an 8/14 shooting performance, as well as a 1/2 effort from behind the arch. Greene, meanwhile, shot just 4/10, yet made up for doing so with a pair of threes and a 7/9 performance at the free throw line.

Besides them, Rajon Rondo also contributed notably, putting in 13 with an additional 12 assists and 7 rebounds. The injury-prone veteran, 28, didn't compete at all this preseason due to a broken hand, likely making the fact he played well this evening exciting for the Celtics.

As for the men on the other side, Brooklyn was led by Mirza Teletovic's 20, with Deron Williams collecting just one less. Ex-Celtic Kevin Garnett, now in his second year with the team, had 10.

The Celtics jumped out to a big advantage early in this contest, leading by nine after one quarter and 26 at halftime. In the third quarter, probably the most competitive one of the night, the Celts out-scored the Nets 34-31, before a weak fourth by them helped the visitors get a little closer.
