Former Celtics to Cheer for in the Playoffs

The Playoffs start on Saturday and the Celtics have already gone fishing.  But, that doesn't mean that Celtics fans don't have anything to cheer for in the playoffs.  Here's a guide to former Celtics who are still in there battling for a ring this year.

At the top of my list is Kendrick Perkins.   Anyone who knows anything about me knows that Perk has been my favorite player since his rookie year.  I was devastated when Danny traded him and it turns out, so were the Celtics.  Since that trade, I've been following the Thunder and they are my second favorite team and I'm cheering for them all the way. They are a fun young team to watch and, of course, Perk is still a beast!!

The Thunder are facing the Grizzlies and they happen to have a couple more former Celtics.  Tony Allen was on the Celtics 2008 Championship team and has become a key member of the Grizzlies.   This past season,  Courtney Lee was traded from the Celtics to the Grizzlies.  That should be a fun series to watch.

Celtics fans should also keep an eye on the Nets.  Of course, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are still very near and dear t Celtics fans hearts.   And if the Celtics can't win a title, it would be great to see Pierce and Garnett get another one.  Also on the Nets are Jason Collins and Joe Johnson who also spent time on the Celtics.  The Nets are playing the Raptors who don't have any former Celtics.  So, I'll be cheering for the Nets in this one.

Another fun series to watch is going to be the Clippers and Warriors.  We know that the Clippers have former Celtics Big Baby Davis and Ryan Hollins on the team.  They are coached by the Celtics former coach Doc Rivers.   The Warriors have former Celtics Jordan Crawford and Jermaine O'Neal.  But the fun thing about this series is how much these two teams hate each other.  There are bound to be fights and fireworks every time these two teams face each other.

In the Pacers-Hawks game, the only former Celtic involved is Pacers GM Larry Bird.  But Larry is more than just a former Celtic, he is a Celtic legend and so it's always good to cheer for Larry.  In the Portland-Houston game there are again no former Celtics playing.  But I always cheer for Rockets coach Kevin McHale.  He's also a Celtics legend and he's always been one of my favorites.

The Bobcats are in the playoffs mostly due to the play of former Celtic Al Jefferson.  I've always liked Big Al and will definitely be cheering for the Bobcats.  Anyone playing the Heat always becomes a favorite of mine.  On the other side of that series are the Heat with Ray "Benedict" Allen.   I will always cheer against the Heat and would love to see the Bobcats oust them in the first round.

The Dallas-Spurs series doesn't have any former Celtics.   The Wizards-Bulls series has just Mike James, who played for the Celtics for part of the '03-'04 season.    And, there you have it.  A Celtics guide to watching former Celtics in the Playoffs.   Thunder Up and Go Nets!!!
