Kevin Garnett mentioned that he was bringing his family to All Star Weekend with him and he was going to enjoy it because it was going to be his last. That set off a feeding frenzy of the media speculating that he was planning to retire at the end of this season. He sets the record straight about those comments in this interview. I sure wish Rondo was there with him. They'd both be having so much fun with KG experiencing his 15th game and Rondo his first as a starter. Maybe next year they will both be here.
KG is having fun at "his last" All Star Weekend. He's always an experience whenever you hear him interviewed. This weekend is no different. He gave Craig Sager a hard time about players being on player time during All Star weekend. And it's reported that he's having fun joking with the younger guys there. I'm happy to see that he's making the most of this weekend, whether it's his last one or not.
As an aside, I woke up to seeing Rondo for Howard rumors, KG for Bledsoe and Jordan rumors, and probably a dozen other rumors and trade proposals. I was overjoyed to see this tweet from Steve Kyler.
Kevin Garnett clearly stated under no circumstance would he waive his no-trade said not what he came back for
— Steve Kyler (@stevekylerNBA) February 16, 2013
Thank you, KG. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett have both earned the right to retire as Celtics if that's what they want. And, they both have said that they want to retire together as Celtics. While doing the Comments posts, almost every fan base complains about at least one and sometimes half the team spouting hate and wishing them cut or traded. I can honestly say that I love all of our players and don't want any of them traded. I'd much rather Danny just fill the spots we have empty and take it from there. All that aside, I started this to post a hilarious video with KG, Carmelo Anthony and Craig Sager at All Star Saturday, so here it is.
The NBA has some exciting dunkers in the contest this season. I expect it to be a lot of fun to watch. I really like watching Denver's Manimal. The kid is fun to watch. He has a motor that just doesn't quit and he looks like he's having a lot of fun playing. But, my pick for the dunk contest is a sentimental favorite. I'm rooting for Gerald Green to get this one.
He should have won the last contest he was in. The candle and stocking feet dunks were pretty amazing. He's creative and puts a lot into his dunks and I'm hoping he wins this one. Once a player is a Celtic for a couple of years, especially the ones we draft, I always have a big soft spot for them. Here are a couple of Gerald's best dunks to whet your appetite for the contest. First up, one of my favorites. This one is definitely a 10.
Well, that was ugly. But a win is a win. The comments were pretty funny as the Bulls fans hated on their own team and coveted Celtics players. I find it hilarious that other fans hate on Tommy because he's a homer. That's exactly why I love him so much. As I read fans from team after team hating their own players I realized that there isn't a single player on this team I don't really like. My favorite comments are in bold. What are yours?
Per all these rumors, maybe some players will switch jerseys before the game. I remember the A's calling Jose Canseco out of the batter's box once to tell him he was traded. Hey Bass, you are now on the Bulls for tonight's game, go get a jersey and go the other locker room.
we’re utta gas and running on fumes to all-star…just one more game and we’re there
Luckily, the Celts have no players either lol
F*** rondo There, that’s out of the way.
Please nobody get hurt Or at the very least “not more hurt”…
On Wednesday night the Chicago Bulls visited the Garden to face the Celtics in their last game before the All-Star break. Last time these two teams met the Celtics were stunned by a Marco Belinelli buzzer beating shot. Coming into the night the Celtics looked to bounce back from their loss Monday against the Bobcats. The Bulls like the Celtics are best known for their suffocating defense. As expected it was the theme of the night with the Celtics narrowly edging the Bulls by shooting 36.8% to 36.5%.
The Celtics also came away winning the turnover battle forcing 20 to their 10. After a season low 8 point performance in the third the Celtics bounced back and scored 28 points in the fourth quarter good for more than second and third quarters combined. With a win on the night the Celtics would move to 28-24 on the season, a respectable record after a crazy first half of the year. In a grind out game the Celtics battled hard and played solid in the closing minutes. With seconds left in the game Belinelli once again looked to beat the buzzer but this time the team was ready as Jason Terry blocked the desperation shot sealing the victory 71-69. Tonight, the Celtics won a fun game over the Bulls 71-69. Brandon Bass led the Celtics with 14 in what was perhaps his best game of the year. It was nice to see him finally start scoring. This is the way the Celtics work; when one guy goes down, someone else steps up. It looks like Bass may be filling Barbosa's void.
Tonight's USOTN goes to the 3-point shooting of Jason Terry. Terry, while scoring 12 points, also shot 2/4 from three point range. Terry rarely has good nights and tonight wasn't much different. But, for tonight, expectations were lower. Therefore he didn't need to play amazing.
The Celtics will not play again until February 19 when they visit the Nuggets. The C's just beat the Nuggets Sunday night, and I expect them to complete the sweep. But, the game won't be played for a while. So I'll just get it off my mind until it happens. Thank you all for a great first 2/3 to the season, and I'll post again on Tuesday. 7:05: Tonight, the Boston Celtics will host the Bulls at the TD Garden. The C's had their 7 game win streak snapped Monday night in Charlotte, a very disappointing loss. That was a really bad night, but I've moved on. Anyway tonight's the Celtics last game before All-Star Weekend, so it'll be good to exit on a high note. Let's hope they do.
8:39: The Celtics played very competitive in the first half. They led by nine after the first, but now trail at halftime 36-35. In my opinion, a one-point deficit isn't that bad and I think that they'll overcome it. Avery Bradley is currently leading the Celtics with 8 points, as he looks to step up in place of Leandro Barbosa. Leading the Bulls with 7 points is Carlos Boozer.
10:22: The Celtics have won a very low scoring game over the Bulls, 71-69. They now head into ASW with a 28-24 record. I have to say that I'm very proud of this team for going 8-1 without Rajon Rondo. Brandon Bass led the Celtics with a nice 14 points while KG and Terry each had 12. Marco Belinelli led the Bulls with 12 points. Leave a comment Link backs Tweet
Tonight, the Celtics will hope to enter All-Star Weekend on a high note when they host the Bulls. The Bulls currently sit at 30-21 and fourth place in the eastern conference. The Celtics currently sit at 27-24 and seventh in the conference. The Celtics are coming off possibly their worst loss of the season with a 94-91 loss Monday night to the Bobcats. This mixed with the season ending injury to Barbosa seems to be really bad, but it isn't. They always bounce back. Here are tonight's five things:
5. GET SOMEBODY TO FILL THE VOID LEFT BY BARBOSA:
Of the three injuries that the Celtics have suffered in the last month, Barbosa's was probably the least serious. I'm not saying that he wasn't important, but I do think that they can live without him.
4. GET PIERCE HOT:
Paul Pierce, like the rest of the team, struggled mightily Monday night. Pierce shot just 4/12 from the field, which is horrible. He's gotta lead this team and he's not doing that.
3. GET GARNETT HOT:
Against the Bobcats, Kevin Garnett shot just 5/13. He still had a solid 16, but think about what could've been if he could've just made a few more shots. I know that he'll do better tonight.
2. REBOUND:
Against a terrible rebounding team, the Celtics were out-rebounded 47-44. They didn't put up a great effort on the boards and deserved the stats they got. This needs improvement.
1. BETTER EFFORT THROUGHOUT:
If the Celtics would have just done what every other team does against the Bobcats, they would've easily won. They played pathetic and made fans lose a lot of confidence in them. They need to earn that confidence back.
at Chicago Bulls (30-21) at Boston Celtics (27-24) Wednesday, February13, 2013 7:30 PM ET Game #52, Home Game #29 TV: NBA-TV, NBAC, CSNNE, CSNC Radio: WEEI, WMVP TD Garden Referees: James Capers, Tony Brown, Karl Lane
The Celtics try to get back on track as they host the Chicago Bulls in
their last game before the All Star break. This is the 4th and final
meeting between these two teams. They split a pair of games in Chicago
with the Celtics winning the first 101-95 and the Bulls pulling out the
other 100-89. In their last game, the first in Boston, the Bulls won
100-99 in OT when Marco Belinelli hit the game winning shot with 3.1
seconds left in the game.
Although Derrick Rose is rumored to be
getting closer to a return to the active roster, he still isn't cleared
for full contact. His replacement, Kirk Hinrich has missed the last 6
games with an elbow injury and will be out for this game as well.
Former Celtic Nate Robinson will start at PG for the Bulls. The
Celtics lost their 3rd player in the past 2 weeks to a season ending
injury on Monday when Leandro Barbosa tore his ACL. He joins Rajon
Rondo and Jared Sullinger on the shelf for the rest of the season.
Rondo will especially be missed in this one as he loved playing the
Bulls and was averaging a team high 25.3 points in the 3 games against
them.
The Bulls are a good road team with a 15-9 record while
the Celtics have been playing well at home with a 19-9 record. The
Celtics have also won a season high 6 straight at the Garden including
the triple OT game against the Nuggets on Sunday. The Celtics are 7-3
in their last 10 games while the Bulls are 5-5 in their last 10. Both
teams are coming off a loss. The Celtics lost a close one to the
Bobcats after playing a triple OT classic the night before. The Bulls
lost a blow out at home to the Spurs, who were playing without Parker,
Duncan and Ginobili.
The Bulls are coached by former Celtics
assistant and defensive guru, Tom Thibodeau. It follows that they hang
their hat on their defense. They are 3rd in the league in points
allowed, giving up just 91.94 points per game on 43.0% shooting. The
Celtics have improved defensively over the season and are 10th in the
league, allowing 96.3 points per game on 44.1% shooting.
The
Celtics are looking to begin another win streak after their 7 game win
streak was snapped by the Bobcats in their last game. The Bulls would
also like to get back on track with a win in this one. The Bulls are
4th in the East, 3 games ahead of the Celtics, who are in 7th. After
moving to within 1/2 game of the Hawks in 6th they have now slipped back
to 1.5 games behind them. This is the final game for both teams
before the All Star Break.
Bobcats fans seem like a decent bunch. They are sticking with their team through all the lean years, which says a lot. They also felt bad when Barbosa went down unlike several other teams whose fans would be cheering (or wishing for) an injury on the Celtics. While I hate to lose any game, this one wasn't too bad. They were competitive right to the end in spite of playing a triple OT game the night before and then had to travel. And the Bobcats always play hard. The kitty gif really didn't have anything to do with the game but I just love it. Enjoy the comments.
Hopefully they are knackered after their triple OT game. We really, really, really need a win.
crazy how well they are playing with out Rondo, maybe he will be the next Rudy Gay haha
Boston could've played us tonight right behind the triple OT and still won. The Celtics are currently one of the hottest teams in the league and are playing a lot better as a whole now that ball movement isn't so much Rondo-centric because they're putting the ball in their true best playmaker's hands, Paul Pierce.
They're deep enough to rest Garnett and Pierce by holding them to about 25 minutes and still beat us.
On Monday night the Celtics were in Charlotte for their second of back-to-back games. The Celtics extended their win streak to 7 on Sunday in a triple overtime victory against the Nuggets. Looking ahead many saw this game as an easy win but that changed drastically after the three overtime game Sunday. The Celtics ran out of gas in the fourth and fell victim to the trap game 94-91.
The Bobcats came into the night on a seven game losing streak with a record of just 12-39 this season. This was certainly a game the team should have won. You could even say the Bobcats stole this victory as the Celtics led the entire night. Surprisingly the Celtics came out of the game hard and didn't look too fatigued from their triple overtime victory. However, in the final two minutes of the game the Celtics clung to a four point lead but went 0-6 and remained scoreless in the final 2:10 of the game.
The Celtics' win streak has ended. They lost tonight in Charlotte, 94-91. It was a really tough night. I know that the Celtics are better than this, but they were just flat out terrible. The Bobcats came in having a lot seven in a row, but like I said in today's 5 Things, they will win if you let them.
Tonight's USOTN goes to the bad performance of Courtney Lee. Lee has been a pretty consistent scorer recently, but tonight he couldn't do anything. Lee had just 4 points on 2/6 shooting in 19 minutes. He, like the rest of the team, just couldn't do anything. On the bright side, they probably can't play any worse than this against any other team.
The Bobcats seemed to top the Celtics in every major stat tonight. Charlotte out-rebounded Boston, 47-44. The Bobcats also shot 42.9% from the field, while the C's shot just 41.6%. The Celtics deserved to lose in every way possible, but I'm already moving on. It was just one game, one really embarrassing game. Leave a comment Link backs Tweet
6:12: Tonight, the 27-23 Celtics will visit the 11-39 Bobcats. The Bobcats currently have the worst record in the league and are just 6-19 at home. The Celtics, who have won 7 in a row, are a disappointing 8-14 on the road. However, they did win their last road game in Toronto. I fully expect them to win tonight by double-digits. I'm really excited for this one because I know they will win and I'll be in a good mood for the USOTN.
7:34: The Celtics didn't quite play up to their potential in the first quarter. They currently lead by the small margin of 26-24. Brandon Bass and Paul Pierce each have 4, while KG leads the way with 6. Leandro Barbosa has also pitched in 3. Jason Collins finally got some free throws, but made just 1/2.
8:18: The Celtics again didn't play amazing in the second quarter. But they still lead at halftime, 48-42. I have to say that I expected more from them, but it might just not be their night. Jeff Green currently leads the Celtics with 11 points. Kevin Garnett is second with 8.
8:55: What an embarrassing quarter. The Celtics came out in the third and were outscored by Charlotte 33-24. They now trail 75-72. If they don't win this game, they will lose the media's respect. More importantly, they will lose their confidence.
9:32: There it goes. The confidence, the momentum, and the bandwagoner fans. The Celtics, despite leading by 4 with a minute left, have lost to the Bobcats 94-91. Somebody should tell them that they were playing a D-League team. Their win streak has now been snapped at 7 games and they are down to just 27-21 overall. If they play like this on Wednesday against the Bulls, they will lose by 50. Leave a comment Link backs Tweet
at Boston Celtics (27-23) at Charlotte Bobcats (11-39) Monday, February 11 7:00 PM ET Regular Season Game #51, Road Game #23 TV: CSNNE, SSO-CHA, NBA-LP 752(BOS)/753(CHA) Radio: WEEI, WFNZ Time Warner Cable Arena

The Celtics are playing in the second of back to back games and are on
the road, both factors should make this game one that they should take
seriously, in spite of the Bobcats' 11-39 record. The Bobcats may have
a losing record, but this team always plays hard.
This is the
second of 4 games between these two teams. The Celtics won the first
meeting 100-89 in Boston and they will meet twice more in March. The
Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games while the Bobcats are just 1-9 in
their last 10. The Celtics are 8-14 on the road while the Bobcats have
been even worse at home at 6-19. The Celtics have won 7 in a row
while the Bobcats have lost 7 in a row.
The Celtics are 7th in
the East, now 1.5 games ahead of the Bucks, who are in the 8th spot.
They are just half a game behind the Hawks for the 6th spot and 1.5
games behind Brooklyn for the 5th spot. The Bobcats have the worst
record in the league and now are playing for ping pong balls, but in
spite of that, they always play hard and so the Celtics can't take them
for granted.
The Celtics are playing in the second of back to
back games after a tough triple OT win over the Nuggets. Pierce played
54 minutes. KG played 47 minutes. Bradley played 45 minutes. Terry
played 42 minutes. Green played 41 minutes. Add the fact that they
had to travel after the game and fatigue could very well be a problem in
this game. But still, if the reserves can give the Celtics more in
this game, they should be able to get the win.
Now that game was epic!!! To quote KG, that was a bar fight!!! I was complaining about calls and reading the complaints on the Denver boards when I realized that the refs were just letting them play. They were letting a lot go on both sides. I do agree with the last comment though that when they reviewed the out of bounds plays it seemed like they got every one wrong. If they had called that one at the end of the 4th quarter right, the game would have been over in regulation. Ah well, they made up for it with another blown call in the Celtics' favor a bit later. Denver is a very good team though and if I was in the West, I'd try to do whatever I could to avoid them in the playoffs. My favorites are in bold. What are yours?
Always tough to go into Boston and come out with a win, gotta keep rolling
Trap game, sucks for the Celtics, their 6 game winning streak ends tonight.
F***ing Rondo had to get injured and making them better
Sucks that all we wanted was to move chandler for so long Now I want him to stay and he wants to go. A love story, maybe an uninspired love story…but nonetheless!
Tonight, the Celtics won their seventh consecutive game over the Nuggets, 118-114 in triple overtime. The game should've ended in regulation, but a terrible call with 3 seconds left in the fourth allowed the Nuggets to force overtime. Because of this, Boston was forced to make a few comebacks in the first two overtimes, before finally pulling away in the third. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 27 points. While Terry had 26 and Garnett had 20.
Tonight's USOTN goes to Avery Bradley. Bradley's shot has struggled recently, but he seemed to fix it tonight. Bradley scored 13 points on 6/12 shooting. It was just one game, but this could continue. In my opinion, it will.
I could complain about the blown call in the fourth, but I won't. It would be a waste of time. Although the call was pathetic and embarrassing to those refs, it doesn't matter. The Celtics still won. Time to move on to Charlotte. Leave a comment Link backs Tweet
After tonight's tough win, the Celtics will travel to Charlotte tomorrow to visit the Bobcats. The Bobcats have a history of being bad, and that hasn't changed at all this season. As of now, the Bobcats are just 11-39 and last place in the eastern conference. Their record is also the worst in the entire league. But, they're still a pro team. You gotta try against them. Here are tomorrow's five things:
5. GET COLLINS THE BALL DOWN LOW:
I feel like tomorrow's game is a perfect opportunity to let Jason Collins come out of his shell. The Bobcats are a pretty small team, so Collins can probably easily score down low. Also, as I mentioned before, he's pretty good at shooting free throws.
4. GIVE BARBOSA SOME SHOTS:
Like I said, the Bobcats kinda suck. This is a game where everyone should get more opportunities. That includes Barbosa. He's got a great shot that goes in sometimes.
3. IMPROVE YOUR REBOUNDING:
I know that it was against the Nuggets, but the Celtics were still terrible on the boards. Denver easily out-rebounded the C's 65-51. This obviously needs to improve.
2. KEEP MAKING CLUTCH SHOTS:
We saw a lot of clutch shots made tonight. The most notable being Green's three in the first OT and Pierce's in the second OT. If they keep making these kind of shots, they will not lose.
1. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE BOBCATS:
The Bobcats may look pathetic by the numbers, but they still can play. If you let them win, then they will. You have to treat this game like you would game 7 of the finals.
5:30: Tonight the red hot Celtics will host the red hot Nuggets. Both of these teams are currently riding winning streaks, with Denver winning nine consecutive games and Boston six. Thanks to their current streak, the C's have moved into seventh place in the eastern conference. In my opinion, this is one of those games where the home team automatically has the advantage. But that doesn't guarantee a Boston win. We'll just have to wait and see. Enjoy the game and remember to check back here after each quarter for updates.
7:04: At halftime, the Celtics lead the Nuggets 50-46. It's been a pretty up and down game, a game where Boston's 10 point lead after the first quarter was reduced to just four by halftime. But I'm still pretty happy with the effort the C's have put up so far. Jason Terry has definitely been the biggest surprise up to now, as he leads Boston with 10 points. The Nuggets are led by Ty Lawson who has 8.
8:27: The Celtics and Nuggets and currently heading into overtime tied at 92. The only reason why this game isn't over is because the refs didn't want it to end. With 3.6 seconds left, the Nuggets were given possession on a play where they clearly touched it last. It was a play that a blind man could've seen and known that it was Boston ball. But, the NBA wants money. They get more money by extending games and getting more ratings.
8:41: The Celtics and Nuggets are now heading into a second overtime tied at 99. With 23 seconds left, Jeff Green tied the game with a three-pointer. That shot might've saved the day.
9:19: The Celtics have won in triple overtime, 118-114. Stay here at CG, post game and USOTN coming soon. Leave a comment Link backs Tweet
at Denver Nuggets (33-18) at Boston Celtics (26-23) Sunday, February 10, 2013 6:00 PM ET Regular Season Game #50 Home Game #28 TV: CSNNE, ASE, LP 751(DEN)/752 (BOS) Radio: WEEI, 104.3 FM TD Garden
Referees: Tony Brothers, Olandis Poole, Eddie F Rush
Two win streaks will collide as the Denver Nuggets bring their 9 game
win streak into the Garden to face try to break the Celtics' 6 game win
streak. The Nuggets earned their 9th straight victory on Saturday night
with a 111-103 victory over the Cavaliers. The Nuggets stopped the
Clippers' 17 game win streak earlier this season and would like to play
the spoiler for the Celtics streak as well.
The Nuggets have
quietly compiled the 4th best record in the West and the 6th best record
overall. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games while the Celtics are
6-4 in their last 10. The Celtics are playing well at home with an 18-9
record at the Garden while the Nuggets have struggled a bit on the road
with an 11-15 record away from the Pepsi Center.
This is the
first meeting between these two clubs this season. They will meet again
in just 9 more days. Right after the All Star break, the Celtics will
hit the road and the Nuggets will be their first game on a 5 game road
trip. This will be a big test for the Celtics and hopefully they will
be up for it.
The Celtics are currently riding their longest winning streak of the year and will look to extend it when they host the Nuggets tonight. The Nuggets are having a great year, as they are 33-18. This makes them fourth in the western conference. If you think this is an easy win, you are wrong. It will be probably be just as tough as last Sunday's win over LA. I still think that the C's will pull it out on their home court, but it will be hard. Here are tonight's five things:
5. HOPE BRADLEY STARTS MAKING SHOTS:
Avery Bradley has not quite gotten shooting down this year. Against the Lakers, Bradley shot just 4/11. That stat won't hurt the team against the weak Lakers, but it could against Denver.
4. LOOK FOR TERRY:
Jason Terry had one of his best games of the year on Thursday night. Terry had 15 points on 5/6 shooting. If he's making his shots, then keep giving him more. He has finally turned it to the player they signed.
3. KEEP REBOUNDING:
The Celtics rebounded pretty well against the Lakers, as they had a 48-43 advantage. They just need to keep doing this. Make sure Wilcox and KG crash the boards.
2. GET COLLINS TO THE LINE:
Last Sunday against the Clippers, Jason Collins shot a perfect 5/5 from the free throw line. He has not shot a single free throw since. He's a lot better at it than we thought, so let's capitalize on it.
1. GET A BIG LEAD EARLY:
The Celtics have a ton of momentum on their side right now and it can only get better. If they can get a twenty point lead at halftime, then it's a guaranteed win. I think that there is a good chance that this will happen.
Tip-off for tonight's game will be at 6:00 pm ET. Live Game Updates will be available here.
