According to
Steve Bulpett in the Herald the Celtics met with center Greg Oden today.
The Celtics met with free agent center Greg Oden today to discuss his potential signing.
Reached a short time ago, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said the meeting was mainly an informational process for each side.
"We wanted to talk to Greg to see where he is physically," Ainge said.
"We're just finding out as much as we can and letting Greg know what we have here," said Ainge. "He's not ready to play now, but he's someone who's very interesting."
Oden won't play until next season, if he plays, and Danny made it clear that there is nothing imminent and Greg has several teams interested in talking to him. It was reported that Miami and Cleveland were in the lead for his services and that he wasn't interested in Boston. But if he came to Boston to talk, it would seem that he is indeed interested in Boston. Perhaps playing with Kevin Garnett may hold some amount of interest for Oden. It would seem to me that that opportunity would interest any young center. For now, it's just a meeting. But it's something intriguing to think about.
