After their great win Friday night in Phoenix, the Celtics will head north to Portland to visit the Trail Blazers. The Blazers currently sit at just 25-29 and tenth in the western conference. The Celtics recent win over the Suns put them at a nice 29-26, still just seventh in the east. I won't make a prediction for this one for fear of being wrong, but I'll still do my five keys to victory. Here they are:
5. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE BLAZERS:
Although the Trail Blazers don't have a reputation as a bad team, there are bound to be people who think they're an easy win. Don't do this because they are much better than you probably think.
4. USE GARNETT AS A LUXURY:
Kevin Garnett missed his first game of the season Friday night so that he could rest. And still, the Celtics won by 25. Granted that that was against a much weaker team, but wouldn't that performance still be good enough to beat Portland?
3. FIND WILCOX ON THE BLOCK:
On Friday night, Chris Wilcox scored a season-high 14 points. Many of these points came on fast breaks and post-ups. So, why not continue doing that? Give him more playing time down low.
2. CONTINUE TO GET CONTRIBUTIONS FROM WILLIAMS AND CRAWFORD:
This week, the Celtics signed free-agent Terrence Williams and traded for Jordan Crawford. Both guys played great in Phoenix, with Williams scoring 9 points and Crawford 10. Let's hope they keep this up.
1. KEEP LIMITING PIERCE'S NUMBER OF SHOTS:
Against the Suns, the Celtics finally did something about the Pierce problem. The C's limited Pierce to just 5 shots, of which he made three of them. That was the perfect amount for him and I really hope that they continue that strategy.
Tip-off for tomorrow night's game will be at 9:00 pm ET. Live Game Updates will be available here.
