What a great win in spite of Rondo's suspension. Speaking of Rondo's suspension, as you might suspect, Tommy was fired up about it. He especially was upset about the fact that Danny Ferry was a tattle tale and handed the video to the refs to take to the league.
I agree with Tommy that Rondo's suspension was ludicrous. I've seen Kobe and LeBron both grab a ref by the arm or the shoulder and spin them around to complain about a call. I remember those incidents clearly because I was ranting about them and the fact that nothing was done about it. Rondo's bump was incidental. He and the ref were having a calm conversation about the horrible call that had just taken place. No shouting. No animosity. No technical. The ref didn't think anything of it. And the fact that Stern had this tape for 2 days and waited until just hours before the game to announce the suspension is even more ludicrous. Just ridiculousness all the way around. As a bonus in today's Best of Tommy, here's video of Tommy's epic rant thanks to CSNNE.
Tommy mentioned picking up a player on waivers or a trade. There are trade rumors galore out there. The Celtics added 9 new players in the offseason. They are finally developing chemistry and getting on the same page. I'd hate to see that developing chemistry destroyed by a blockbuster trade. Danny's best bet is to try to add a player or two on vet minimum contracts to fill the holes at center and back up point guard.
The officiating was at best suspect last night. Tony Brothers did a pretty good job. Violet alternated between ok and dismal. Dick Bavetta needs to retire. Twice last night, a ref from across the floor had to make a call that Bavetta missed standing right on top of the play. Of course, Tommy had plenty to say about the officiating.
Tommy got pretty worked up over the lack of calls last night and as always, Mike was looking out for his well being.
I love what I see from Sully every game. The kid doesn't play like a rookie. I love how he's always under the basket and battling. What he doesn't have in height and athleticism, he makes up for with hustle and heart. You can't teach heart, and Sully's got it in spades. Tommy agrees.
The Celtics return to playing defense and win streak coincides with the return of Avery Bradley. It could be a coincidence, but then again Bradley's energy is definitely infectious.
Every Celtic that played tonight stepped up to help get this win. We are starting to see the team come together. Jeff Green had a very nice game and was aggressive on both ends of the court. For his effort, he wins tonight's Tommy Award.
