Twitter and the blogs are all discussing Zach Lowe's article on Grantland about Memphis shopping Rudy Gay and Boston as a possible landing spot for him.  Keep in mind that this isn't a rumor from the front office.  This is Zach's opinion on POSSIBLE destinations for him.   Danny hasn't said he's trying to trade for him.  In fact, he's said the opposite.  He said he wants to be patient.  Zach speculates that the Wolves, Bucks, Celtics, Hawks, Rockets and Jazz could be possible landing spots for Gay.  Here are the trades he proposes for the Celtics.

A package of Green, Courtney Lee, and Avery Bradley works, though it only saves Memphis about $1.4 million in salary (and the same amount in tax payments). Memphis might be able to cut the rest by salary-dumping Marreese Speights or Bayless later (Speights isn’t trade-eligible until Jan. 15 and can veto any deal), and they could sell at least Lee and Bradley as helpful pieces that fill needs now and going forward. Replace Green with the cheaper Brandon Bass, and Boston would have to work a lot harder — sending out more players, and involving more teams — in order to find a deal.

Paul Pierce for Gay works straight-up, but it’s sacrilege and does not save Memphis any tax money this season.

In the first trade, if we could trade Green and Lee and keep Avery, that's one thing.  But no way should we trade our best on the ball defender for a mediocre defender at best.  Have you read the Grizzlies game threads to see how Grizzlies fans feel about Gay?   Possibly there's a good reason he's available.  Here are a few comments from Grizzlies fans taken from the CFTOS after Wednesday's game.

Who the heck is guarding --or should I say--who the heck is assigned to watch Paul Pierce do anything he wants?

Pierce will go for 40+ tonight.

Rudy just continues to leave PP. This time to help with Brandon freaking Bass. STUPID STUPID STUPID Rudy 

If Rudy Gay runs under one more screen to give Pierce another open look at a 3 I’m gonna trade him myself!

Those are just a few of the complaints about his non-existent defense.  There were plenty more and also some about his shot selection as well.  These are the fans that have been watching him game in and game out and this tells me that trading for Gay would be a step back and not forward, especially if we have to give up Avery for him.   Now, he'd be an upgrade over Green and Lee, but that's not enough to get it done.

We should be talking about centers or point guards that are available.  We don't need another under performing, overpaid small forward.
