The deadline for either waiving non-guaranteed contracts or making them guaranteed for the rest of the year is Monday at 5 pm.
ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted today that the Celtics Kris Joseph and Jarvis Varnado were among the players waived today.
The fact that they waived Joseph comes as a surprise as Doc and Danny were both very high on his potential. He has spent the majority of his time with the Maine Red Claws although they have moved him up and down a few times when the team was at home for a few days. Joseph averaged 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 10 games for the Red Claws.
Varnado's release isn't quite as surprising as the shot blocking specialist was signed from the D-League to fill in until Chris Wilcox returned from the thumb injury. Varnado played in 5 games and averaged 1.2 points, 0.6 rebounds, 0.2 assists, and 0.2 steals but surprisingly, no blocks in 3.6 minutes per game.
Now comes the question as to whether Danny has someone in mind for those 2 open spots. Perhaps a back up point guard and a center? Now, we wait and see.
