Many of the games are live, while some will be on tape delay. Many of the Orlando SL games will be rebroadcast while the schedule shows just one airing for each of the Vegas games. A Few Thoughts as Ray Leaves for the Heat
Friday, July 6, 2012
by FLCeltsFan 10:44 PM
According to multiple sources, Ray Allen has agreed to a 3 year contract worth just over $9 million with the Miami Heat.
Maybe it was the extra year, but Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Ray was angry over the near-trade to Memphis at last year's trade deadline. He felt that the hard feelings over that were a bit too much to get past. Also, Wojo points out that the deterioration of Ray's relationship with Rajon Rondo played a significant factor in his leaving for Miami.

No Answer Yet from Ray
by FLCeltsFan 4:07 PM
Brian Windhorst, who covers the Heat for ESPN, has posted that Ray left Miami without giving them an answer and is still torn over the decision.
Free agent Ray Allen left his meeting with the Miami Heat on Thursday night without giving them an answer on their contract offer and is torn on whether to leave the Boston Celtics, sources told ESPN.com on Friday. The article goes on to note that the Heat pitched more playing time and the opportunity to play with LeBron, Wade and Bosh. The Celtics are offering a no trade clause, which the Heat are unable to provide.
The article also mentions the Suns, Grizzlies and Timberwolves as possible options for Ray as well. So, we still wait!

Thoughts While Waiting on Ray Allen
by FLCeltsFan 11:42 AM

| Ray with Miami Brass courtesy of Twitter |
I've been reading a lot of tweets and articles from Celtics fans on how they would feel about Ray Allen if he chose the Heat over the Celtics. Some fans say they will love Ray either way. Some fans say they would feel betrayed and just won't feel the same about him. I have to say, I'm closer to the second group. While I appreciate all that Ray has done in a Celtics uniform, and I respect Ray and his professionalism, I just can't cheer for him if he goes to the Heat.
I really hate the Heat. Even players I like seem to change after they go over to the dark side and join forces with LeBron and Wade. I loved Eddie House when he was a Celtic and he always had a great attitude in Boston. Not long after he got to Miami, he started spouting trash and just became very unlikeable. The same goes for Shane Battier. They just seem to get some kind of entitlement attitude when they get to Miami. As nice and as professional as Ray is, he will change once he gets paired up with Miami's egotistical three.

A Few Random Thoughts on Free Agents
by FLCeltsFan 10:02 AM
Thinking through what the Celtics have done so far, with the signing of Brandon Bass last night, the depth chart looks something like this:
Point Guard: Rajon Rondo
Shooting Guard: Jason Terry, Avery Bradley, E'Twaun Moore
Small Forward: Paul Pierce, Kris Joseph
Power Forward: Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, JaJuan Johnson
Center: Kevin Garnett, Fab Melo, Sean Williams That makes 12 players. Moore, Joseph, and Williams are non-guaranteed contracts and may be cut after summer league depending on their performances in Orlando and Vegas. Assuming all 3 make the team, that leaves just 3 spots.
The Celtics have a qualifying offer out to Greg Stiemsma, who is also being wooed by the Timberwolves. Chances are if they make him an offer above the Celtics' offer, they won't be able to match, but the Celtics could use a proven center, especially since KG hates playing there.

Mavs Wish Terry "Nothing But the Best"
by FLCeltsFan 12:46 PM
Jason Terry and the Celtics have agreed on 3 year/$15 million contract pending one last check with the Mavs to see if they would counter. That speaks much to the Jet's character and loyalty. I can understand why he would want to give them a chance to counter after spending 8 years there and winning a championship with that team.
It would seem as though the Mavs are moving on and won't be making a counter offer. ESPN Dallas is reporting that Donnie Nelson, in essence, said goodbye to the long time Mav.
Mavs president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson, moments after Deron Williams broke the news that he will re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets, all but bid Terry farewell.
"What Jet did for this city and franchise will never be forgotten," Nelson said. "He's one of the greatest clutch performers in the history of our game and even a better person. We wish him nothing but the very best." Sounds to me that they are moving on and we just wait for the formality of the July 11 signing. Good news for the Celtics.

Update on Summer League Roster and Schedule
by FLCeltsFan 12:19 PM
a
With all the free agency hoopla going on it's easy to forget that the Orlando Summer League is less than a week away. With 2 rookies from last year, 3 rookies from this year, along with a few other additions, the Celtics will be participating in the Vegas Summer League for the first time in several years.
The Celtics signed Jared Sullinger, Fab Melo and Kris Joseph to their rookie contracts on Tuesday and so all three should be ready to participate in Summer League. Joining them will be last year's rookies, JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore. Moore will have a lot to play for in these games because the Celtics will need to decide whether to guarantee his contract for this year after Summer League is over.
Sean Williams, the 6'10" former BC center and NBA veteran signed late in the season with the idea of a summer tryout, will also travel with the team to Orlando. He played sparingly last season but showed some promise and with a Summer League and training camp with the team could be a nice surprise.

Celtics Agree to Deal with Jason Terry
Tuesday, July 3, 2012
by FLCeltsFan 3:09 PM
Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Celtics are close to a deal with Jason Terry. In 3 separate tweets, Spears reveals this information
Celtics are in final discussions on terms of a multi-year deal with Mavericks free agent guard Jason Terry, sources tells Yahoo! Sports.
Keep in mind Celtics coach Doc Rivers said he wanted both Ray Allen & Jason Terry
Jason Terry expected to land a three-year deal paying the mid-level exception from the Celtics, sources told Yahoo!
Marc Stein of ESPN confirms the Spears report:
But, let's not celebrate just yet. Stein added this little bit of a buzz kill:
This is very good news.Terry averaged 13.8 points, 3.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game in 34 minutes per game for the Mavs in the playoffs this past season. He brings energy off the bench and can score. He's also able to handle the ball when Rondo takes a break. Of course now we have to wait for Mark Cuban to decide if he wants to counter that. Hopefully he doesn't and another piece falls into place for the Celtics. If Ray doesn't come back, this would make his decision a lot easier to deal with.
UPDATE:
In a story on Yahoo, Marc Spears reports that Terry and the Celtics have reached an agreement and mentions nothing about allowing the Mavs to counter. Sounds pretty definite to me. Spears also mentions that Terry has expressed disappointment that he wasn't offered an extension after the Mavs won the championship in 2011. Sounds like Jet to Boston is pretty much a done deal.

Wilcox Cleared To Play
by Loyalist 5:22 PM

Free-agent forward Chris Wilcox has been cleared for full-court contact, his agent said Monday, as the 29-year-old attempts to resume his career after undergoing aortic surgery last March. Wilcox had been playing well for the Boston Celtics as a reserve when the team’s doctors noticed what the team called a “significant” enlargement of his aorta. As a precaution, Wilcox was shut down for the season and operated on at the Cleveland Clinic March 29.
Doctors performed what is known as a “Modified David” procedure, in which a graft was attached to a small piece of Wilcox’s aorta to prevent it from enlarging further after he finishes playing. There was no valve replacement or bypass procedure performed.
Wilcox’s cardiologist, Dr. Matt Hook, of the Wake Heart and Vascular Associates in Raleigh, N.C., cleared Wilcox for full contact in the last few days. Wilcox has been working out in North Carolina the last few weeks, lifting weights and doing cardio work, and is planning to go to Houston to continue his workouts with player development guru John Lucas. Wilcox shot 59 percent from the floor last season for the Celtics, averaging 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in a little more than 17 minutes per game.
“After the great year he had with Boston, I know Chris could be a strong contributor for any team,” agent Jeff Schwartz said Monday.
I really like Wilcox and thought he was a good addition to our bench until he went out. However, I think now that he is close to 100% he may be able to come back and be even more productive for us...if we can sign him. I have a feeling he's gonna get better offers elsewhere since we are pretty occupied with signing up our other players as well as scouring the free agent market. If everything goes right having Wilcox and signing Ray and also adding talent, we'd have a pretty tough bench and team. Sign Wilcox!!

Celtics Introduce the Rookies
by FLCeltsFan 1:57 PM

As always, Greg Payne is on top of things announcing the press conference introducing the Celtics 3 new rookies. Jared Sullinger (#7) Fab Melo (#13) and Kris Joseph (#43) were introduced today at the Jackson Mann/Horace Mann Educational Complex. I have to tell you I've got pangs of sadness seeing that #43 jersey being held up.
Sullinger reiterated that he doesn't have back problems that have affected his play and he's ready to get to work for the Celtics. He also expressed his happiness at being in Boston by saying that if he had it to do over again, he'd be happy to drop to #21 to land in Boston.
Melo, for his part stated that he is coachable and willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. When he was warned of KG's policy of washing his hands of any prospects who don't listen to his guidance, Melo assured everyone that he hasn't yet met KG but he is willing and anxious to learn from him and he feels that together they can do great things.
Joseph answered questions about his ability to play man defense after his years in Syracuse's zone defense. He assured the crowd that even though there will be a learning curve he has played man before and will be able to handle the defensive duties in the Celtics system.
The trio will make their Celtics debuts at the Orlando Summer League which will begin on July 9. Click here for the schedule. For the first time in several years, the Celtics will also be participating in the Vegas Summer league. You can click here for that schedule.

Random Thoughts on the First Day of Free Agency
by FLCeltsFan 1:02 PM
The first day of free agency didn't disappoint. There were lots of rumors and there was a lot of activity. After locking up KG for the next 3 years, Danny was free to turn his attention to free agency and he was active on several fronts according to reports.
First and foremost, Danny said his number one priority was Ray Allen. Ray got the expected $3 million offer from Miami and also a 2 year offer at $5 million per year from the Grizzlies. The Clippers, Suns and Knicks are also interested in making Ray an offer as well. The Celtics have doubled up on what the Heat can offer and have put a 2 year/$12 million offer on the table for Ray to consider. The Celtics have a couple of things going for them. Ray and his family are settled in Boston. Ray's son Walker has juvenile diabetes and Ray has been very involved in the Joslin Diabetes Clinic in Boston, which is the preeminent diabetes research and clinical care organization in the world. That has to weigh into his decision on whether or not to leave the Boston area. He is concerned about his role on the team and I would think that his role on the Celtics will be as prominent as on any other team, whether he starts or not. My guess is that if Danny includes a no trade clause they can get it done.
There are also reports that the Celtics are close to signing Jeff Green. Green has said all along that he wants to be in Boston and stayed close to the team throughout last season while recovering from his heart surgery. He was often at games and in the locker room just hanging out with the team. His agent was very impressed with how the Celtics handled his situation after being diagnosed with the heart problem. He is also Jared Sullinger's agent and has to feel kindly toward the team that took a chance on him and his red flagged back. Hopefully they can get it done without breaking the bank since Green still needs to prove himself both with the Celtics and after the surgery.
