The Celtics played terrible tonight. In addition to losing to the Nets 95-83, Celtics' star point guard Rajon Rondo was ejected and will likely be suspended. We have seen Rondo lose his temper before(Game 1 of last year's eastern conference quarter finals), but never like this. It didn't seem like Kris Humphries really did anything, besides fouling Garnett. Rondo just shoved him and it unsurprisingly escalated from there.
Anyway, let's forget the Rondo play for a second. Tonight's underrated stat of the night is the numbers put up by Brandon Bass. If there were any bright spots for the Celtics in this game, he would one of them. Tonight, Bass had 16 points on 7/12 shooting, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. The rebounds and assist totals aren't that special, but the point total was. His 16 points was tied for the team lead with KG. I am impressed with this performance and I hope we will see him do this more in the near future.
Back to the Rondo play, I will grant that it was a hard foul, but Rondo's gotta be smarter than that. He is easily the Celtics' MVP, and this team is definitely not as good without him as they are with him. Bottom line is that he needs to be smarter. People have been saying for years that this guy needs to mature and, after tonight, I side with them.
