Now that the Celtics have officially sent Fab Melo and Kris Joseph to the Red Claws, we're going to have to keep an eye on them there. The experience there should be great for Melo. He is still fairly raw and can use the playing time he'll get there. Doc said that he considered keeping Joseph with the parent team, but since they have no practices coming up, it's better for him to be where he can play.
Since they can be sent down and called up as many times as they want this season, it makes sense to send them, especially during stretches when they don't have practices scheduled. Also, they are running the Celtics system there so they are getting experience with the same system they would be using with the Celtics. Avery Bradley spent time with the Red Claws in his rookie season and it sure did help him. He had this advice for the two as they headed north.
“Don’t go down there like it’s punishment,’’ said Bradley. “They’ve got to go down there with the attitude of getting better and make the most of it. Go down there and work hard every single day so they can improve and when they get called up, be ready if their name is called here.’’
Doc Rivers' son Jeremiah was drafted by the Red Claws. He's still rehabbing from an ankle injury, but once Jeremiah gets on the court, Doc will more than likely head to Maine himself to watch when he's not busy with the Celtics. Seems like Fab is approaching this opportunity with gusto.
