We thought that Rondo's streak of games with 11 or more assists per game ended with the win over the Bucks. That left him tied with John Stockton at 27 games for the most consecutive games with 11+ assists. Then, they found another assist that he wasn't credited with in the Bucks game.
According to Chris Forsberg on ESPN,
Re-watching the tape, a bucket by Brandon Bass with 6:29 to play in the third quarter was originally scored as an assist for Jason Terry, but it's clearly Rondo with the baseline feed. This is significant because with that additional assist, Rondo set an NBA record with his 28th consecutive game of 11 assists or more.
So, his streak ended with the Celtics last game, a win over the Bulls, when Rondo finished with 10 assists, getting assists 9 and 10 in the final minute of the game. But, not so fast. Again, according to
the ESPN article,
But here's the crazy part: It looks like the scorer missed another assist.
Rondo fed Terry for a 20-foot jumper with 4:54 to play in the fourth quarter to put Boston out front 89-84. The official box score credits Paul Pierce with the assist, but Pierce was setting a double screen with Kevin Garnett to give Terry a clean look.
As of now, he holds the record for 28 consecutive games with 11+ assists. If they added that missed assist from the Bucks game, they should add the one from the Bulls game as well. If they do, then his streak of games with 11+ assists is still alive and he is sitting with a record 29 games and counting. I'm sure they will announce it if the change becomes official and we'll be sure to let you know if it does.
