ESPN Dallas is reporting that the Mavericks have officially waived Delonte West. After suspending Delonte twice within a two week period for conduct detrimental to the team, they have officially waived him. The move will allow them to keep Eddy Curry on the roster as a fill in for Dirk until he recovers from knee surgery.
Sources said the Mavs were concerned that West was negatively influencing younger players on the roster. There was a belief that West, an eight-year veteran who was a valuable role player for the Mavs last season, could not handle the frustration of having to settle for another one-year, veteran-minimum contract.
I've always liked Delonte. He always did really well in Boston and is a tough player who goes all out on the court. He has had some problems due to bipolar disorder, but can definitely help a team if they are willing to work with him. There's no chance for a third stint with the Celtics at this point but I'd always welcome him back.
JC Online reports that the Rockets have waived former Celtic JaJuan Johnson. Johnson was the Celtics first round draft pick last year and was included in the trade for Courtney Lee. It's interesting to note that with the departure of Johnson, the Rockets no longer have any of the players they took in return in the sign and trade for Lee.
On Monday, the Houston Chronicle and spacecityscoop.com are reporting that the Rockets have waived the 6-foot-10 Johnson and his guaranteed contract of $1,089,240 for the 2012-2013 season.
After averaging six points in exhibition action, Johnson was waived less than 48 hours after the Rockets acquired NBA All-Star James Harden from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Like Delonte, I hope JaJuan finds a new home soon. Both could help a team if given a chance.
