While the Celtics had their Media Day on Friday, the rest of the league kicked off theirs today. Here are a few thoughts from around the league.

First, of much interest to the Celtics is some news out of Philly. It would seem that their brand new center is already broken. From a press release from the Sixers.

"The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that the team will take precautionary measures with center Andrew Bynum and will withhold him from basketball activities for the next three weeks in order to maximize the therapeutic effects of the Orthokine therapy he received earlier this month.

Bynum was examined by Dr. Jack McPhilemy of Main Line Health and was diagnosed with a bone bruise of the medial femoral chondyle of his right knee. During the aforementioned time frame, Bynum will continue participate in low impact conditioning drills."

And, the player that the Sixers signed as back up for the injured Bynum is of interest to the Celtics faithful as well. Former Celtic, Mikki Moore has been signed to a camp contract. Good luck with that, Sixers. He is still 7' tall, though.


Speaking of former Celtics, Orien Greene, the Celtics second round pick in 2005 has been signed to a camp contract with the Bucks. Like Gerald Green, who was their first round pick that season, Orien lacked the maturity to make it in the league at the time. He has been playing in the D-League and has played fairly well there. Like Green, he has also matured since his time with Boston and I wish him luck in landing a spot on the roster.

Former Celtics lead assistant coach, Tom Thibodeau reached an agreement with the Bulls on a contract extension. Thibs has agreed to a four-year contract extension that is worth approximately $17.5 million over the four years, with bonuses that could take it to $20 million over the course of the contract. Good for Thibs.

Kobe Bryant had an interesting comment over in La La Land. He wants to be sure everyone knows that it's still his team out there. No sharing. Great for chemistry right off the bat.  

"I got a question earlier about whose team this is," Bryant told reporters at the Lakers media day Monday. "I don't want to get into the, 'Well, we share ...' No, it's my team. But I want to make sure that Dwight, when I retire, this is going to be his. I want to teach him everything I possibly know so that when I step away this organization can ride on as if I never left."

Out of the Thunder camp, James Harden said he'd be willing to make some sacrifices to stay with the Thunder and he's not set that a max contract is a must. He expressed confidence that they will be able to get a deal done before the October 31 deadline. In a humorous moment, when asked what he thought about the league cutting down on flopping, he had this to say: "It's good. Guys can't be flopping and getting away with it anymore." Funny guy.

And here's Perk at media day. Perk when asked if he's over the Finals loss said, "Nah I still don't watch SportsCenter to this day because of it." Have I mentioned recently that I really still miss the big guy?
