| Leandro Barbosa gets up shots before the Celtics' exhibition finale Sunday at TD Garden. |
Celtics fans are anxious to see the newest Celtic on the court but that will have to wait until the season opener at least.
ESPNBoston reports that he's still waiting on his visa paperwork and that will keep him off the court once again tonight.
He's in Boston and getting acquainted with his teammates, and he's excited about being a Celtic and also excited to be able to help the team however he can.
"Well, first of all, I'm very excited, and happy to be here," said Barbosa. "It's a great team, a lot of experienced guys, so I've been looking for that moment to get out there and try to help those guys."
When asked what he could bring to the team, he had this to say:
"Energy. A lot of energy," said Barbosa. "I think, like I said, I like to run, I like to bring a lot of offense. I like to score, too. But, we have a lot of scoring on the team, so we'll see. Whatever situation I'll be in, I will try to do."
He talked about the interest from the Lakers but said they never made a formal offer and jumped at the chance to join the Celtics. He's especially looking forward to playing with Rondo as they both love to run. He's also hoping to be able to help fellow Brazilian Fab Melo.
Barbosa got a positive scouting report on Boston from rookie Fab Melo. Both are Brazil natives, and Barbosa said he could aid the younger player's development.
"I could be [a mentor to Melo]," said Barbosa. "I'm going to try to help him. We are from the same country, so I'm going to try to do my best to help him, as he's a rookie here. I'm going to help him."
He'll have a week to work out with the team to get ready for the season opener against Miami. Also out tonight will be Darko Milicic. The Celtics are just being cautious with the wrist injury that has sidelined him for the past 2 games. He should also be able to participate in the Celtics' practices between now and opening night.
