We first heard that it might be January before we got to see Avery Bradley back on the court. Recent reports have Bradley ahead of schedule in his recovery and we could see him on the court as soon as mid-December. After yesterday's practice, Scott Souza tweeted this report:
Dan Duggan,
who will be leaving the Herald for NYC and will be missed, has
this little tidbit this morning.
During training camp practices, Bradley often works his way into a huddle. Sometimes a coach will be ready to put the guard on the floor before remembering that Bradley is unable to participate as he recovers from offseason surgery on both shoulders.
While Bradley has been involved with the team, and even in the huddles, he's been taking it slow and doing everything he's supposed to, which may be why he's ahead of schedule for his return.
Yesterday Avery was able to begin conditioning for the first time. He lifted weights and took jumpers and ran, hoping that when he is finally cleared for contact, he can hit the ground running. Doc is hoping for a mid December return but Avery is feeling so good these days, he's hoping to get back a bit sooner. Who knows, he may sneak into a huddle in a game and Doc may just put him in. The guard rotation is going to get interesting when he does come back.
Chris Wilcox has been out for almost all of training camp and both of the games in Europe. He is just 6 months removed from heart surgery but that isn't what is keeping him out now. He was so excited to be back and able to play after the heart surgery that he over did it a bit and injured his back. His heart is doing fine, but he has been sitting out with back spasms.
He's planning to take it slowly and allow himself to get back into shape and get his conditioning back before plunging back into the game. Doc says it will be awhile until he is back.
Darko had a wrap on his hand yesterday after hitting it in Wednesday's practice. He's back out on the court today with the wrap still on as I'm watching training camp practice live on NBA-TV. Word out of practice yesterday was that he'll be icing it but it's not serious and shouldn't limit him.
