This is Gerald Green. This is not photo shopped. That is a regulation rim. Gerald Green can jump. It's time to get this kid into the dunk contest again. He was robbed in that last one. That cupcake dunk and the bare foot dunk should have won it for him. This kid is special and I'm very happy to see him back in the league so I can post highlights from him again. And there will be lots of highlights.
There is always that one player that we keep up with and that we just kind of like. They aren't your favorite player, but they are good kids and so you follow them. For me, one of those kids was Gerald Green. When the Celtics drafted him out of high school, he was immature and not ready for prime time. He could jump out of the gym and had so much potential, but he didn't have the attitude or work ethic to match. But I liked the kid.
Since he left the Celtics, I've been following him as he played in Russia and won a slam dunk contest there. He played some in the D-League and some overseas. And in each of those stops, he's learned more about the game and more importantly, more about himself. Now, at the age of 26, he's ready to resume his NBA career.
No longer is he the slightly arrogant player who didn't feel the need to work hard. He's grateful for the opportunity to play in the NBA once again. He's a good fit with the Pacers and they are a good fit for him. And I'm pulling for him to make it in the league. I think this time, he's ready.
Last season he was picked up on a 10 day contract with the Nets. He played well enough for them to pick him up for the remainder of the season. In the offseason, the Pacers signed him to a 3 year $10.5 million contract. He has played well for them this season and he still can jump out of the gym. Here's a Gerald alley oop against the bulls.
