Darko is already winning over fans in Boston.
He has already said that if he has to kill someone on the court for the Celtics to win, he's ready to do that. As much as I loved Perk's attitude, he's never offered to murder anyone. He just scares them off. But Darko's serious here. They don't call him the Serbian Gangster for nothing.
Most Celtics fans were impressed with his play in the preseason before he injured his wrist. He played tough defense and surprised many of us with his ability to pass the ball. Sitting out a few games to rest his injured wrist may have mellowed him a bit, but not much. Instead of offering to off someone for the Celtics,
now he's ready to just rough them up a bit.
"In the last second Boston came out, which I was surprised about. They were really serious about me," Milicic told WEEI.com Sunday of the Celtics' offseason interest in him. "I know I'm a minimum player right now, but that doesn't really matter. I'm going to help these guys, whatever I need to do to bring a title back here. Whatever they tell me to do. If they tell me to fight that guy, I'll go fight that guy. Just help them in some way, whatever way it is. I know Miami is a good team and a champion, but Boston has a history. You can't say no to Boston."
Yep, old school basketball. I love it. Read some of the books written by Celtics legends. All of them talk about the good old days when players squared off on the court and duked it out without having to worry about a lifetime suspension.
He also shared that Miami wanted to sign him and he chose Boston over the Heat. Recall that the Celtics won another battle with the Heat for a free agent in recent years. Let's hope that Darko works out much better than Troy Murphy did. But then again, Troy never offered to kill anybody. Actually, he barely had a pulse himself.
I don't know about anyone else, but Darko's already won me over. The Celtics have been missing an enforcer since Danny traded Perk and I think Darko can be that kind of player. I'm looking forward to seeing him get some meaningful playing time this season because he can help this team. Defending the rim is going to be important and I think Darko is going to be the guy to do it.
