ESPN Puts Rondo at #12 in Their Rankings

Rondo, who is ranked #12 on the ESPN Player Rankings, is the highest ranked Celtic on this list.   With Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams all yet to be ranked,  that would make Rondo the 5th best point guard in the league.  He has moved up from #17 to #12 since last season.  I expect another jump this season in both overall ranking and in Point guard rankings.  Some Celtics fans feel that he is ranked too low.  I personally would rather see them rank him lower because we all know how things like this fires him up.  I expect him to be on a mission this season.

I would say this is more than interesting.

Rondo has been overlooked for MVP for a couple of years.

The chorus of celtics fans dropping hints has grown louder.

Even though it's number 12, he is clearly within striking distance.

I believe the media chooses MVP, and so really 12 is huge.

It will be tricky however.

He'll need to be MVP without needing to do everything.

Basically, just be rondo, with a better j, better ft %, and more Ws.

Well, I guess that's a lot.

I still have him in my top 5.

The other interesting thing is that this team might be better than all but a few of us are giving it credit for.

So if and when the Ws come, that will move rondo from 12 to 7 or 8 within a couple of months

The heavy lifting comes in the spring.

We were good after the break last year, but this isn't a traditionally good time for us in the KG era.

Rondo will need to help the Cs overcome the boredom of the second half and lead them to a good record.

I was thinking when I saw Rondo ranked at #12 that I'd rather him be ranked lower than higher. It will motivate him to play better because 4 PG's were ranked ahead of him.

To be MVP, Rondo has to up his FT% and has to hit his shot more consistently. I think that's all that's needed and he's right there.
