In this world of instant gratification and social media, reports come so quickly that much of the time facts change by the time you post them on a blog. Such are the facts in the Courtney Lee sign and trade. First, it was done, then it wasn't. Then there was a report that they needed a third team to get the deal done and both Phoenix and New Orleans were mentioned. Then there was a report that the trade was in limbo and might not be final until tomorrow, if then. All of this within an hour or so. My head is spinning.
Now, I'm happy to report that according to Sean Deveney, the players have been notified that the Courtney Lee deal to Boston is done. Assuming there are no surprises, it will be E'Twaun Moore, Sean Williams, JaJuan Johnson, and a 2nd round pick to Houston for Courtney Lee. That is, unless another report comes out in a few minutes and says something completely different.
There have been reports that JaJuan Johnson doesn't want to go to Houston and is hoping to be traded but that's just reports. It may have been a spur of the moment reaction that he will rethink later. When he thinks about being coached and mentored by Kevin McHale, one of the best big men in league history, maybe he'll see it differently.
I really feel for E'Twaun Moore, who has been playing so well in Summer League. He said just yesterday that he liked his chances of making the team. And surely he has played like he belonged. And now, Houston plans to cut him after the trade. Hopefully some team will grab him and give him a chance because he has proved with his play in summer league that he belongs.
I'm sure we will hear more on the signing tomorrow and get the final details on the deal.
Final(I hope) Update on the deal
from the Herald:
It took awhile and a couple of false starts, but the Celtics [team stats] got their man last night, acquiring Courtney Lee from Houston in a sign and trade for JaJuan Johnson, E’Twaun Moore, Sean Williams, Sasha Pavlovic and a second-round draft pick. The paperwork is expected to be finalized today.
