This should be an easy game against a sub .500 team for the Celtics sandwiched between games against contenders. It should be an easy game, but for some reason, sometimes the Celtics forget to show up in games that should be easy. It would be easy to take the Bobcats for granted after facing the Mavs and Magic in their last 2 games and looking forward to another game vs the Lakers on Thursday and then another big game vs the Heat after that.
The Celtics are 2-0 vs the Bobcats so far this season, winning big (92-62 in Charlotte and not so big (99-94) in Boston so far. They have one more meeting after this one. The Celtics are playing in the second of back to back games while the Bobcats have been off since their loss to the Mavs on Saturday. The Celtics are 6-6 so far this season in the second of back to back games.
The Celtics have never lost a season series to the Bobcats. They swept the series 3-0 last season. The Celtics are 18-5 overall all time against the Bobcats and 8-3 on the road all time vs the Bobcats.
The Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games and 15-8 on the road. The Bobcats are 6-4 in their last 10 games and 12-12 at home. The Bobcats have lost their last two while the Celtics are coming off a big win over the Magic. This could be a trap game if the Celtics see it as a break between contenders. Hopefully they come out strong and take care of business early. It would be a mistake to let them hang around because they do have some very good players who could lead the Bobcats to a win if the Celtics let them gain some confidence. Read more »

Comments From the Other Side - Magic 2/6
by FLCeltsFan 10:06 AM

Good game. I had to chuckle about Magic fans talking about Celtics fans complaining about the officials and then proceed to complain about the officials throughout the game. The Celtics did end up with a big free throw advantage but I thought the refs pretty much called the game even. They missed some calls both ways. Maybe I was looking through green glasses but I didn't see blatant favoritism. The Celtics were the more aggressive team and the Magic were shooting jumpers. Jeff Van Gundy was so irritating with his rant about how Howard gets abused and the refs don't protect him. Then when they showed Howard shove Perk out of bounds with no call, JVG had nothing to say. Believe me, Howard gives as much as he takes. He swings those elbows all the time and gets away with it. My favorite comment was the one talking about Perk committing a fragrant foul. What's yours?
I was incredibly surprised to hear they didn't fine or suspend KG for touching a ref not once, but twice.
Yeah, I don't know how he continues to not get disciplined for his antics. Oh wait, yes I do, he’s KG and plays for the Celtics.
He clearly plays in his own league with his own rules Amazing how the NBA seems to bow down to this thug.
Honestly, the way we've been playing recently my expectations aren't that high, but I just want to see some effort and intensity on the defensive end regardless of the result.
The Celtics struggle against team that makes them run, we need to run every possession ,we cannot let them set their half court defense.
Gonna be a close game both ways tonight. Dick Bavetta is calling it
We gotta get Boston tired. The more tired they get on defense the poorer they will play on offense. Also gotta try to force rondo to shoot jumpers.
I'm at a loss for words... Jon Barry just picked us to win..
KG should not be playing in this game. He elbowed JJ Barea on purpose, and then actually slapped a REF's hand away. Twice. But he most likely will be playing since KG is intense. Without him, I think we win.
Garnett, unfortuntately, is a guy who can get away with anything in the league strictly because as you said he's viewed as "intense". I hate Garnett, he's a thug and one of the dirtiest players I can recall, especially of his generation.

Celtics and Magic Clash on Super Bowl Sunday

Sunday, February 6
2:30 PM ET
Regular Season Game #50, Home Game #27
TV: ABC, CHCH-TV
Radio: WEEI, WDBO, ESPNR
TD Garden
Referees: Dick Bavetta, Jason Phillips, Olandis Poole
This is the third and final regular season meeting between these two teams. The Magic won the first game in Orlando on Christmas Day 86-78. The Celtics then came back and returned the favor in January with a 109-106 win in Boston. This is the rubber match for bragging rights and the tie breaker should they somehow end up with the same record at the end of the season.
In their first meeting, Rondo was out and the Celtics had just 15 assists and shot just over 35%. KG was also playing his first game back after missing 9 games with the calf injury. On the Magic side, they had just made the trade to bring Turkoglu, Richardson, and Arenas to the team. Both Shaq and Howard sat out most of the game with foul trouble. In the second game, the Celtics had Rondo back and got back to a more Celtic-like 25 assists and shot 60% for the game.
The Celtics are coming off a tough loss to the Mavericks after a successful 3-1 trip out west while the Magic are coming off of a big win over the Wizards after a tough loss to the Heat at home. Speaking of the Heat, they trail the Celtics by just 1.5 games after Friday's loss to the Mavs.
The Magic are 6-4 in their last 10 games and 14-12 on the road. The Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games and 22-4 at home. The Celtics tend to get up for big games, especially after a big loss. The Mavs became the first team to beat the Celtics twice this season and I'm sure the Magic would love to join them in that exclusive club. The Celtics won their first afternoon game on ABC against the Lakers. They are going to need that same kind of effort to come out again with a win. Read more »

Celtics Host Mavs to Open Home Stand

This is the second and final meeting between these two teams. The Mavs won the first meeting in Dallas by 2 points in early November. In that game, the Celtics out played the Mavs in just about every category. The Celtics had 42 rebounds to 38 for the Mavs, 14 offensive rebounds to 4, 38 points in the paint to 32 for Dallas, just 12 turnovers for the Celtics vs 17 turnovers for the Mavs. So, what was the big difference in that game? It was free throws. The Celtics took just 7 free throws to 20 for the Mavericks.
Shaq and Perk both missed that game and Jermaine O'Neal put in one of his few appearances in the starting lineup. Reports out of Thursday's practice were that Shaq sat out and was questionable for this one. I originally had Shaq starting, but given that Perk is playing extremely well and Shaq is struggling with an Achilles problem, I changed the lineup to include Perk who may get his first start of the season in this game. Perk first targeted this game as his first back, but he surprised everyone and came back early. Maybe this game will be his first start instead of his first game.
This is the Celtics first game home after a successful road trip and hopefully they brought their focus and energy back with them from the West coast and will come out ready to play in this one. The Mavericks come into this game on a 6 game win streak. They have averaged 102.8 points per game during the win streak. But they are also playing defense as they have held opponents to 96 points during that stretch.
The Mavs are 7-3 in their last 10 games and 14-7 on the road. The Celtics are 8-2 in their last 10 games and 22-3 at home. They are a perfect 16-0 at home vs Eastern conference teams and 6-3 at home vs Western conference teams.
Against the Mavs, who have momentum and a ton of confidence right now, the Celtics must come out strong and play hard for 48 minutes. Anything less and they could find themselves swept by the Mavs this season. Read more »

Celtics Looking to End Trip on a Positive Note

This is the second meeting between these two teams this season. The Celtics won the game in Boston 119-95 but the Kings didn't have their talented second year guard, Tyreke Evans in that one. The Kings have been playing very well in recent games, winning 3 of their last 4 games. All 3 wins were against playoff teams.
They play teams tough. In 28 of their games they have had a lead or were tied in the 4th quarter. It appears that they are learning how to finish in these recent wins. It would be a huge mistake to take this team for granted based on their record. The Lakers, Hornets and Blazers found that out the hard way.
The Celtics are 2-1 right now on this road trip. They are coming off a big win over the Lakers and it would be easy to have a let down against a team with a 12-33 record. But, since a win against the Lakers counts the same in the standings as a win against the Kings, losing this game undoes the good play on Sunday. The Celtics are just 2.5 games ahead of the Heat in the standings after their loss to the Suns. They have to take every game seriously if they want to have HCA throughout the playoffs.
This is a very winnable game if they come out with the focus and intensity that they did against the Lakers. But if they play like they did vs the Suns, they will end the road trip 2-2 instead of 3-1 and that would be a shame after the big win over the Lakers. Great teams bring it every night. This team is great and it's time they prove it!
