Celtics Take on Bulls Looking for 5th Straight Win

Boston Celtics (28-7) at Chicago Bulls (23-12)

Regular Season Game #36. Road Game #18
TV: NBA-TV, CSNNE, WGN, NBAC
Radio: WEEI, WMVP
United CenterReferees: Ron Garretson, Tommy Nunez, Jr, Sean Wright
This is the 3rd meeting between these two teams with Boston winning the first two. Both teams are playing in back to back games and both teams had to travel overnight as Chicago played in Philly on Friday. So, the fatigue factor should be even.
Both teams are 7-3 in their last 10 games. The Bulls have been tough at home with a 15-3 record while the Celtics are 12-5 on the road. Both teams will be without a key big man with KG still out for the Celtics and Noah out for the Bulls. In their first meeting, the Bulls were missing Boozer and in their second one, Boozer was just back from his injury. A healthy Boozer could be big for the Bulls and the Celtics will need Big Baby to step up in this one. Both teams have been winning in spite of injuries to key players this season.
The Celtics have won 4 in a row while the Bulls have lost their last 2. The Celtics are coming off a blowout win against the Raptors. Doc was able to keep the starters minutes fairly low with Big Baby playing the most (33 minutes) and Pierce (29), Ray (29), Rondo (26) and Shaq (20) all stayed under 30 minutes. In the Bulls' loss to the Sixers, Deng, Rose, and Boozer all played 35+ minutes.
After a tough win over the Spurs and a blowout win over the Raptors, the Celtics might be tempted to take this game for granted, but the Bulls, even without Noah in the middle, are a very good team and the Celtics have to come out strong and play them tough. Read more »

Comments From the Other Side - Raptors 1/8
by FLCeltsFan 10:43 AM
Great game by the Celtics! Luke looks like he may be making a case for more playing time. I loved the progression in the comments from "L. Harangody Who the **** is that??" to "I've had enough of ****... Luke f**** harangody." Priceless! It's kind if sad when they started hoping that Shaq's foul on Kleiza was a career ending injury for him. I don't know if I could ever hope for a bad injury for a guy on my team. Raptors fans seem to be losing interest in their team. They used to have 90+ pages in their threads and last night's threads were barely over 30. But some great comments nonetheless! Enjoy!!
Raps either pull out a win here or they lose to Boston. Book it.
I'm fairly certain that the team who scores the most points will win, but don't quote me on that.
Rondo goes for 13 points, 11 rebounds, 23 assists, and 10 steals
We always compete with them. Atleast going into the fourth quarter. That's when Boston actually tries.
Give them a fight and try to tire the old men.
We are toast.
Thank God it is the last the meeting with them.
Andrea should be able to have his way with the Celtics tonight…I am glad he will not have to contend with KG
There is not a player on the Celtics that can effectively guard Andrea…I would not even be shocked to see them put Paul Pierce on Andrea for stretches…that should not work either though

This is the 4th and final meeting between these two teams this season. The Raptors won the first game but the Celtics came back to win the next two. Both teams have had a lot of injuries and both teams will be missing key players in this contest as well.
The Raptors are 3-7 in their last 10 games and are looking to win their second straight game after beagint the Cavs on Wednesday night. The Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 and have won 3 in a row. The Celtics aer 15-2 at home while the Raptors are 5-13 on the road.
The Celtics have to be careful in this game not to play down to the Raptors' record. After a tough Spurs game it would be easy to have a let down game and come out slowly against this team. But regardless of their record, they can be a dangerous team, as we found out in the first game between them.

Comments From the Other Side - Spurs 1/5
Thursday, January 6, 2011
by FLCeltsFan 12:01 PM
What a game! I was amazed at how much the Spurs fans complained about the refs. They pretty much let them play and there were bad calls and no calls going both ways. I could have pointed out just as many non calls going the other way. But, the last two minutes, the refs definitely called it pretty much in favor of the Spurs and I don't think even they could deny that. Some good comments today. Most realized we were playing without KG but people seem to forget that we are playing without Perk and Delonte as well. Rondo was a beast last night. Yet some still criticized his game. Amazing. And of course, there was the ever present Tommy bashing. Enjoy today's comments from the other side....
Spurs win big, no way they play as bad as yesterday.
Boston's current favorite referee, Bill Kennedy, is the crew chief tonight.
If the Spurs had won last night, I'd say they lose tonight, but I think they're gonna be pissed off and actually win this game.
Big baby's jumper is horrible. He shoots it way too often, and it's not a high percentage shot for him at all. I wouldn't worry about that, he has turned into a chucker this yr.
I have no clue who will win. If KG were healthy I'd pick the Celtics, but since he's not I think we have a chance. Also, since we're coming off of a disheartening performance and its a back-to-back, I don't care how fired up the guys are, they'll probably feel some fatigue. And the Celts are rested. I lean toward the Celtics winning tonight. At some point the Spurs are due for a two game losing streak, and the Spurs' defense is not on par with Boston's...yet, at least.
Hoping the Spurs win of course, but it will definitely be tough. We may have a shot though with KG being out, which I will take since we lost last night.
If they defend well they should win. I am expecting our guys to at least score 90 points. Can we win with 90 points today?
We can if we can hold them to 89.
Ok, time for the worst announcer of the NBA: Tommy Heinsohn
I have the Celtics feed and Tommy Heinsohn is calling the game. I can’t wait for the first foul on the game against the Celts to hear Heinsohn say why they were screwed.
I love Heinsohn..this should be entertaining..

Celtics and Spurs Clash in the Garden

San Antonio Spurs (29-4) at Boston Celtics (26-7)
Wednesday, January 5
7:30 PM ET
Regular Season Game #34, Home Game #17
TV: CSN-NE, FSSW-SA, NBA-LP 757/758
Radio: WOAI, WEEI
TD Garden Referees: Bill Kennedy, Brent Barnaky, John Goble The Celtics and Spurs were both considered too old last season and this season they find themselves at the top of the league, with the Celtics leading the East and the Spurs leading the West. The one big difference is that the Spurs have been healthy for the most part and the Celtics have been playing short handed the entire season so far. This game is no different. The Celtics are playing without Perk, Delonte and KG while the Spurs are almost at full strength with just James Anderson out.
Last season, the two sides split the series 1‐1. The C’s won their fourth straight game in San Antonio. Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with an average of 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. KG will certainly be missed in this game. Rajon Rondo chipped in with 9.0 points and 9.5 assists per game. Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with an average of 19.5
points while DeJuan Blair (12.5 points, 11.0 rebounds) and Tim Duncan (12.0 points, 12.0 rebounds) both added double‐doubles.
The Spurs are taking a page out of the Celtics book and winning with team play with 4 of the 5 starters averaging in double figures. The Celtics lead the league with 24.5 assists per game while the Spurs are 4th, averaging 23.6 assists per game. The Spurs use ball movement and team ball to beat their opponents just like the Celtics have done.
Finally the Celtics catch another team on the second of back to back games while they have had the previous day off. The Celtics have already had 8 back to back sets this season and they always seem to catch a rested and healthy team in the second game. The Spurs lost to the Knicks on Tuesday night and this could be added motivation for the Spurs to win in Boston. Pop sat his starters with over 3 minutes to go in a winnable game. That will make his starters fresher for this game but also frustrated them as they sat on the bench throwing things and obviously very angry at being pulled from the game. Also, the Spurs haven't lost 2 in a row all season. After every loss they have bounced back to get a big win in their next game.
Not sure what the officiating assignments say for this game but Bill Kennedy is calling his 4th game already this season for the Celtics. If you remember, Bill Kennedy is the referee who taunted Doc into getting a technical a couple of years back. Kennedy was fined for his actions after that incident. According to Tim Donaghy, Kennedy is gay and Doc questioned his sexuality in a game at one point and Kennedy has been out to get him ever since. The Celtics have won 2 of the 3 games he has officiated so far but of the 3, the Celtics had a free throw deficit. Kennedy and 2 relatively new refs is an interesting crew for a big game like this one.
The Celtics have been playing some uninspired basketball since KG went down, barely getting by the Wolves and pouring it on at the end to defeat a Raptors team even more depleted then the Celtics. Of course that may be as much playing down to the opponent than anything but one thing is for sure, if the Celtics want to win this one, they are going to have to bring their A game. Read more »

Comments From the Other Side - Wolves 1/3
Tuesday, January 4, 2011
by FLCeltsFan 2:04 PM
Some fun comments today. As always there are the complaints about Tommy and the refs (even though they did get more FT's than the Celtics). Although I have to agree that even though the traveling call was correct on their last play, had that been LeBron or Wade or Kobe or any star in the league, they never would have called traveling. LeBron takes 3 steps to the hoop on every drive. The worst comment might have been the call to shoot Pierce since stabbing didn't work. That's going a little far in my opinion. I loved that they gave credit to Perk for what he does for the team. If opposing fans see it, it's pretty obvious. Also loved the last comment. I hope you enjoy today's comments....
I'm predicting a Wolves 10 point victory. Darko and Love will be too good for Shaq and Davis. Beasley will score 25+, Webster and Brewer will lead the 2nd Unit. Flynn will have a good game.
I'm concerned about Rondo vs. Ridnour and Ray Allen setting up shop on the perimeter.
They are without KG, which is a pretty big hit. And idk if rondo is 100%. I'm hopin we can pull it off, gonna be WAY tough tho
BabyFace will take close to 100 15ft jumpers in Love's face.
Shaq might actually use Darko as a step ladder for a dunk.
Rondo will dunk a few times while the man supposed to guard him is closer to the midcourt than the hoop.
Brew will draw Ray duty which can only mean one thing: at least two four point plays for RayRay this game

Celtics and Wolves Clash at the Garden

Minnesota Timberwolves (9-25) at Boston Celtics (25-7)
Monday, January 3

Regular Season Game #33 – Home Game #16
TV: CSNNE FSNN-Min, NBA LP 753, 754
Radio: WEEI, KFAN
TD Garden Referees: Bennett Salvatore, Courtney Kirkland, Eli Roe
Last season, the Celtics won the series 2-0. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with an average of 19.5 points per game while shooting 85.7% from three, Rajon Rondo averaged 15.5 points and 10.5 assists against Minnesota last season. Al Jefferson led the Timberwolves with an average of 19.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Kevin Love recorded a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds in his only game against Boston last season. The Wolves have changed considerably since then, however, with only Kevin Love returning from the lineup they started last season. The Celtics have won the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
The Celtics are playing in the second of back to back games and are in a tough stretch of 10 games in 15 days. And, they are doing it short handed with KG out along with Perk and Delonte who both may be returning sometime this month. The Celtics got a boost with the return of Rondo against Toronto. With key players out, fatigue is certainly going to be a problem for the remaining players. Paul Pierce turned his ankle coming down after a dunk at the end of the Toronto game. Reports were that it was tender but didn't swell and so he should be available for this game.
The Wolves are 3-7 in their last 10 games and are just 2-17 on the road while the Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games and 13-2 at home. The Celtics are 5-3 in the second of back to back games. Minnesota is allowing a league high 108.9 points per game. With Bennett Salvatore officiating, anything can happen as we have seen in the past. The Celtics shouldn't take the Wolves for granted, however because they have won 3 of their last 4 games and are playing very well right now. Even tired and shorthanded, this is a game that the Celtics should win if they take care of business and come to play. Read more »

Comments From the Other Side - Raptors 1/2
by FLCeltsFan 10:31 AM
Finally, back to winning and fun comments from the other side. It's always fun to watch their reactions to Rondo, whether he plays or not. It seems as though most fans believe that without Rondo the Celtics are pushovers and with him they have no hope. I enjoyed them talking about how undermanned they were while not realizing that the Celtics have been just as undermanned. Nice to see they appreciated that dunk from Pierce, even though they were way too happy to see him roll his ankle. Enjoy today's Comments from the Other Side....
Would have been a great game for Bargnani to abuse Boston's frontcourt w/o Garnett.
Raps wont win this one and that's fine by me!
More loses =better chance BC isn't back next season.
Let's see how DeMar plays against his toughest opponent, Ray Allen. If DeMar puts up a good performance against Ray Ray, especially on D, I'll be very happy.
Another loss which classifies as a win this season!
With Bargnani I would expect a win. Without, I expect cringe worthy offense, and good defense until Boston wakes up.
Winnable if we can play the way we have been as of late.
P.S. Thanks Garnett & Rondo
It would be kind of hard with how good the C's are at communicating and rotating, KG or no KG.
Celtics losing 2 in a row to a shitty New Orleans and Detroit. Pierce and Shaq gonna abuse the Raps consider it game set match.
You can't underestimate the Boston bench. Nate Robinson can drop 20 on you if you're not careful. Glen Davis is probably the best bench big in the entire league. They also have Jermaine O'Neal, who can step up on the defensive side.
Boston has to win tonight after those 2 losses. TO doesn't stand a chance, but at least we'll have a better chance at getting a top 5 pick
There is always hope that the Celtics retirees will start losing parts at some point of the game. Both O'Neals are old as hell, I hear Pierce's motoric functions are deteriorating rapidly. Ray Allen is 35 and playing 36 minutes per game is he on steroids or something? The Raptors' young guns have to make them sweat and work hard. And most of the Celtics' players are so damn annoyng, make them pay

Shorthanded Celtics and Raptors Clash North of the Border

Sunday, January 2

Regular Season Game #32 – Road Game #17
TV: CSNNE, TSN2, LP-754
Radio: WEEI, CJCL

The Celtics are facing the Raptors for the 3rd time this season. They split the first two games with the Celtics losing 102-101 in Toronto and then 5 days later winning 110-101 in Boston.
Don't expect the Raptors to feel sorry for the Celtics because of injuries. The Raptors are also playing short handed with 2 players listed as out, 2 as questionable and one day to day. Both teams could be missing 5 key players. The Celtics had been expecting Rondo back for their last game but he wasn't ready yet and Doc said that he might also miss this game so we may or may not see Rondo in this game. For the Raptors, their leading scorer, Andrea Bargnani has missed the past 3 games and is listed as day to day. Both of these players could make a big difference for their team.
The Raptors are 3-7 in their last 10 games and are coming off a loss to the Rockets while the Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games and have lost 2 in a row and 3 of the last 4 games. The Raptors are 7-9 at home while the Celtics are 11-5 on the road.
In the Celtics last game, several players tried to do too much. most notably Big Baby, Ray and Pierce. We saw too many players trying to score on iso's and too much hero ball. They need to stay in their roles and play team ball. They have to move the basketball to find the open man instead of each player looking for his own shot and trying to be the hero. If they can do this, they should win this one. Read more »
