Players Union To Protest C's T's

The NBA Players Association is set to contest what they believe to be "unnecessary and unwarranted" efforts by the NBA to curb Players complaints about officiating.

Union Executive Director Billy Hunter said:

“We have not seen any increase in the level of ‘complaining’ to the officials, and we believe that players as a whole have demonstrated appropriate behavior toward the officials. Worse yet, to the extent the harsher treatment from the referees leads to a stifling of the players’ passion and exuberance for their work, we fear these changes may actually harm our product. The changes were made without proper consultation with the Players Association, and we intend to file an appropriate legal challenge.”

However the NBA said they have market research the shows fans want to see a decrease in players on the court "complaining and demonstrating" to officials.

The protest by the Players Union seems to stem from Wednesdays Celtics/Knicks game where Jermaine O'Neal and then Kevein Garnett received T's for what seemed like mild reactions to Officials calls. KG eventually was tossed for laughing at his call.

In my opinion, I've always felt Officials are never held accountable for some of the more questionable calls. And thats the key word...questionable. To me a player has the right to question or explain his side of a call, but I do agree there has to be a limit on how far a player can go. Its all subjective to the Officials which caused this issue in the first place. Simply laughing at a call while walking away is not and should not be an ejectable offense. So this brings the question, what should be deemed the appropriate amount of complaining? Thoughts?

Gonna be interesting to see how this plays out before the season starts. I have a feeling David Stern wont budge.
