Comments from the Other Side - Lakers Game 2 6/6
by FLCeltsFan 12:55 PM
I have never seen so much complaining about the referees by a team that had a huge free throw advantage. At one point, the Lakers had 37 free throws to 14 for the Celtics, and even then they were complaining. It ended up a lot closer because they were calling a lot of make up calls to try to even it up. Phil Jackson even had the nerve to complain about the officiating. Maybe they did miss a few calls, but the Lakers certainly got the benefit of the officiating. They finished with a 41-26 free throw advantage and it wasn't the refs who cost them that game. Yes, Kobe finished with 5 fouls, but so did KG. They still got a lot more calls going their way than the Celtics did. Here for your enjoyment are the whines er comments from the other side.
KG LOOKING SHOOK
PAULA LOOKING SHOOK
As ive said , Lakers in 5 . We gon celebrate in Boston
Let's not count our chickens before they hatch. It may be true but let's hold it until there's no doubt because if they push us to 6 the trolls will follow.
We better not sleep on game 2 and let them steal home court. I do think we have a better team, but look at what happened even vs Oklahoma.
We haven't lost on our home court yet and we aren't about to. Let's send these jokers home down 2 and licking their wounds.
I have a feeling there will be less fouls called this game. It really slowed down the game and they talked about it during the post game show. The refs will probably review the game and let them play especially early on. If this is the case the Lakers better be ready to play some physical ball and run back on D instead of complaining to refs.
I see the Celtics as possibly the 2nd easiest matchup the Lakers have faced yet. The Celtics are our best match-up of anyone these play-offs. The difference is that they know how to execute. That is what makes them dangerous. Then again, its also what makes us so dangerous. That and Artest ready to throw broken table legs through people's hearts.
You all hear about Pau's comments? Dude can't give the C's extra motivation like that. Kobe was asked a similar question and he responded by saying KG looked the same and was everywhere. Then Pau goes and says KG has lost a step and is only a jump shooter. Come on Pau! You are smarter than that!!!
COME ON GASOL PUNK GRANDPA KG IN GAME 2..LIKE GAME1..
I think game 2 is more of a must winl for the Lakers than the Celtics. Why? Because how the refs call the game is clearly in favor of the Celtics. I mean Lakers are playing in their home court and the Celtics still got 5 more FTAs than the Lakers. I do not see any chance of the Lakers winning game 3,4,5 in Boston considering how the refs are calling the game. I will not be surprised if Boston is getting 20+ more FTAs than the Lakers in game 3,4,5. Just look at 2008 Finals game 2 that Boston is getting 28 more FTAs than the Lakers and you can see that there is no chance for the Lakers winning in Boston at all. If Lakers loses game 2, I think it's over.
I think Lakers will take first 2, loses next three, and win next 2
Since the NBA starting using the 2-3-2 for the finals in 1985 there have been only 2 teams that have swept all three middle games. And since the Celtics actually had a better road record than home record in the regular season what would make you think they could be the third team in 25 years to do this?
If the Lakers was able to stop Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams two much quicker guards than Rondo, I don't see any problem with Lakers handling Rondo.
I hope the Lakers bring it today because you know the Celtics will!
Phil needs to monitor the starters minutes in this game because they have to fly cross country on only 1 days rest and play Tuesday night in Boston. Our bench really needs to come up big in this game...
Boston has ever worse problems there. Their starters ran out of gas vs. Orlando. One day in between greatly diminishes the Celtics given their collective age. Their best shot was winning Game 1, in my opinion this series is over, it's just a matter in how many games.
I love the Sunday whites, best looking uniform in the NBA in my opinion. That purple and gold trim just off-sets the white perfectly. And as y'all know, the Lakers are indestructible in their Sunday Whites
Only one team has dropped a Finals Game 2 at home in the past 11 years (Spurs '03). Let's make it 12 years.
Were not gonna loose this one! Going to boston up 2-0. Bank on it.
I cant wait for our 38-10 free throw advantage in this game!! Hey, maybe Josh Powell will shoot more free throws than all the celdicks combined!
Accuscore giving Lakers 70-30 edge. Wow. Talk about no chance for Celtics.
Uh oh. Daniels is likely to be ready for game 2.
He's scary, he might run into Drew and kill himself this time.
I think the Lakers will put out a close one put unfortunately if any team can beat the Lakers in game 2, it's the Celtics.
Lets hope we win and Perkins get a T... That'll be the best case scenario
We need to demoralize those Celtics. This ain't No County for Old Men
The Celtics were 29th in rebounding this season, and it showed and should continue to show.
They gave a lot to come to this point. Particularly against the Orlando in the last three games. Orlando tame them for us. Howard knocked some of their big bullies down. They will try to come out strong, but the Lakers have the energy to stop their attack. This an old Celtics team facing a Lakers team that is at their best.
Seems like everybody expects Boston to win this game. Anyone else notice this? The refs better not be expecting them to win..
Media wants Boston to win so they can show their ugly faces for a longer series.
The only way KG has a big game is if they start calling ticky taks on Gasol
Rondo's jumper looks like crap
Nice to see us getting free throws
Wow... 2 on garnett
I like the way they're calling the game.
Wow at all these moving screen calls... Doubt this refereeing continues in beantown.
We're getting every call right now. This is when we need to seize control.
Dang... Allen can still shoot
Ok, time to pay attention to Allen
Allen is pushing off and grabbing fisher on every play to create separation...
I want Jesus Shuttlesworth in a Laker uni next year.
Why'd they switch Fish to Rondo??? If Rondo gets in, everybody scores. I don't care about Allen.
Gasol soooo soft
Intless lane violation call. Rondo ain't making (bleep) anyways.
Wow we are getting an array of calls that we don't hear too often.
We need to keep pounding the ball inside with the guys picking up fouls
Our bigs are contesting shots. Celtics are just making them.
We up 8-2 in ft and only up 1 not liking this
Remember that tough shot Kobe made in the 6th game against the Suns? Yup, the Celtics are doing just that. The problem is the Celtics have 5 players who can do what Kobe does.
I love our offense, let Kobe hold it for 20 secs.
I told y'all we should've gotten Sheed instead of Ron Ron.
Why is Rasheed Wallace killing us
Do we have a Ray Allen of our own to shoot while Bryant sits on the bench? Seriously.
Does obum really think he can just not show up and get a ring?
Maybe we should have signed Wallace over Odom?
The Celtics are specialists in stealing HCA this postseason. With the Lakers effort so far, it doesn't seem like they really care.
Sad to say, the Celtics play better without KG.
Here comes our retarded incompetent bench
Celtics want it more, they are attacking the basket agressively
ROndo carried and they don't call, and we're not holding on to baords.
Mauer at work. Lakers blatantly fouled and hacked on one end. Goes continually uncalled leading to bogus fast break easy bail out points for the Celtics. League shenanigans. Pure corruption
This aint the refs we playing terrible
Refs strategy of giving KG 2 quick fouls to get him out of the Lakers to prevent anyone on the Celts of guarding Gasol is backfiring.... Celtics play better without KG...David Stern didn't realize this when he told the refs the master plan before the game...
Boston will fold in the 4th. They are expending way too much energy.
Lakers have too many stupid players in the game.
I really dislike Rasheed... He is just a dumb thug punk
Stop whining about the refs. This is all Phil Jackson and Lakers being stupid on offense.
Celtics flopping around, refs falling for it. I can see what Stern wants now
I'd happily admit if the refs were a factor in the Lakers being down right now but it's not, at all.
Look at how many FTs we have. Lakers just playing poorly.
Totally called in our favor. Can't blame the refs
Ray Allen is the only one in double-figures on their team, and WE'RE down.
Keep it going. Get Perkins that 5th or kg that 4th.
Kg has a look on his face like he just realized he's old.
If we win, I will eat my sock..I'm serious..there is no way we are winning this game..not by the way we are playing and with these refs
Stop blaming Mauer, this is all on the Lakers.
Man we have more than twice as many FT's quit blaming the refs.
For people complaining about refs, they only made a couple of bad calls. Otherwise, it is all the Lakers' fault.
We have 25 free throws.
Shh... We we want to believe the refs are totally against us In one half
How many damn fouls are they gonna call against guys guarding Ray Allen?
We've shot 19 more FT's -- incredible.
4 on Kobe That isn't good
So the refs objective now is to put everybody on the floor in foul trouble, so they can pick and choose in the 4th as to whom they can get rid of!
There isn't going to be anybody to play in the 4th quarter! The (bleep) refs have taken over the game!
14 to 37 free throws?
We've made double the amount of free throws that the Celtics have. Really surprising
It's pathetic that we've let little ass Rondo get 10 rebounds.
We are playing like old ass men out there
LOL..Fisher flopped and lost the ball.
That foul on Kobe might have benefitted us, he'll have plenty of energy for the closing 4th quarter
Rondo 11 rebounds.... PATHETIC!!!
Rondo is the best rebounding PG. Period.
Fresh Kobe, tired Failtics. Looking good.
Rondo looking exhausted, yet getting to every single damn rebound.
Lets pile it on them....I want headlines to read "ray Allen makes history and Lakers still beat them"
Paul pierce sucks tonight kg sucks tonight how are we not beating these guys
We look ****ing lost, like decapitated chickens
The referies are going to kill us tonight !
The finals can't possibly be this terribly reffed. This is depressing.
If Ray Allen has to go 8-11 from three (11-16 team) for the Celts to get a win I think the Lakers are in a good position.
When the Lakers have to shoot 15 more free throws to have any sort of a shot at winning the Celtics are in a good position.
Dude I live in reality..........I saw things in this game that tells me what I need to know. This team can't sustain effort.
Tonight just showed how pathetic they are when it comes to effort. They got outrebounded by an undersized Boston team by 5. Rondo grabbing 4 more rebounds than Gasol is just totally unacceptable.
From the moment of tip off I knew the Celtics were going to win and the reason for that would be the officiating. I truly believe that's what cost us the game tonight.
Don't blame the refs, we lost this one all on our own
The Celtics have little to offer at the end of games other than Rondo making hustle plays, the rest of them play on fumes the deeper the games go.
There hasn't been one home team that held HCA in these playoffs that when they lost a game end up winning the series. EVERY SINGLE ONE LOST THEIR SERIES. FACT.
Rondo schooled Kobe tonight, so sad...
This loss makes me sick the stomach because I know for the fact that they didn't match the intensity, hustle nor the efforts against the Celtics. They could have win the game had they played better defense against Allen in the first half and grab more rebounds. But they didn't.
Suddenly the Celtics don't look so old.

Celtics Looking to Even the Series with More Agressive Play
by FLCeltsFan 1:57 PM
at ![[image]](http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b58/FLCeltsFan12/LakersPotatoHeadresize.jpg)
Boston Celtics (0-1, 12-6) at Los Angeles Lakers (1-0, 13-4)
Sunday, June 6
8:00 PM ET
TV: ABC
Staples Center Referees: Monty McCutchen, Mike Callahan, Ken Mauer
In spite of all the talk about Phil Jackson being 47-0 when he wins the first game of a series, this series is far from over. The Celtics were out worked and out hustled in just about every category in game 1. The Lakers played like they wanted it more. But it was just one game and the Celtics have certainly been counted out after losses before only to come back and dominate. They lost game 1 in Cleveland and came back to win game 2. They were blown out on their home court only to come back and win game 4 and ultimately the series.
The Celtics defense didn't show up and neither did their ball movement or team play. And in spite of how poorly the Celtics played, they still had a chance to win it through most of the game. The officiating was very tight in game one and that favored the Lakers because the Celtics, particularly both Allens spent much of the night in foul trouble. Hopefully they will loosen up a little and let them play in game 2.
The Celtics have to come out with more energy in game 2 and not allow the Lakers to beat them to all the loose balls and rebounds. They must win the hustle game and be the team that wants it more. Most of what went wrong in the first game can be fixed by hustle, desire and energy in game 2.

Probable Starters
Point Guard: Derek Fisher -------------------- Shooting Guard: Kobe Bryant

Center: Andrew Bynum

Small Forward: Ron Artest -------------------- Power Forward: Pau Gasol
![[image]](http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/media/act_pau_gasol.jpg)
Key Matchups
vs ![[image]](http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/lala/FisherLA.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs Derek Fisher
Rondo had a very un-Rondo like game in game 1. Rondo must be aggressive on both ends of the court. He has to keep Fisher from hitting those back breaking shots that he has hit in so many games. He also must set the pace for the Celtics' offense and keep it moving. Rondo has to make Kobe work if he is going to guard him and he has to hit his shots when they give them to him.
vs ![[image]](http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/lala/GasolLAL.jpg)
Pau Gasol out played KG by a lot in the first game. He made KG look old and slow as he tallied 23 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Gasol played 47 minutes and that shows how important he is to their attack. KG has got to be more aggressive on both ends of the court if the Celtics are to win this game.
vs ![[image]](http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/lala/ArtestLA.jpg)
Paul Pierce vs Ron Artest
Artest played great defense but he also hit some big shots in game 1. Pierce was able to get 24 points and 9 rebounds but he was 0-4 from beyond the arc and had to work for everything he got.
Keys to the Game
Defense - Defense is the key to winning the championship. In game 1, the Lakers played it and the Celtics didn't. The Lakers were allowed to get to the rim way too easily. Second chance points were 16-0 in the Lakers favor. The Celtics also allowed the Lakers to shoot 49% while the Lakers held them to 43%. The Celtics must find their defensive intensity if they want to win this series.
Rebound - Rebounding is second only to defense as a key to winning. The Celtics were out rebounded 42-31 in game 1. The Celtics allowed the Lakers to get 16 second chance points, many on wide open tip ins. The Celtics must crash the boards and prevent the tip ins and second chance points for the Lakers along with giving themselves a chance for some second chance points. The Lakers also beat them 12-5 on fast break points. This can be reversed by beating the Lakers to the boards as well.
Run the Offense - In game 1, the Celtics didn't run their offense. There was too much dribbling and too many players that tried to go one on one. The Celtics are very hard to stop when they move the ball and run their offense. They have so many weapons that if they share the ball and find the open man, they can get good shots, even against good defenses.
The Celtics must move the ball and run their offense.
Bench Play - The Celtics bench must come through for them in this series. Tony spent much of the game in foul trouble. Sheed came close to a melt down. Tony did a decent job on Kobe when he wasn't sitting out with foul trouble. They all must step up and play their best if the Celtics are to win this series.
Hustle - The Lakers out hustled the Celtics in just about every category. They beat the Celtics to loose balls, rebounds and all the 50-50 plays. The Lakers clearly showed that they wanted it more than the Celtics did. The Celtics have got to show more energy and hustle in game 2 in order to win.
X-Factors
Officiating and Desire
The officials called game 1 fairly evenly, but they also called it very tight. The Celtics couldn't play their brand of defense without picking up quick fouls. Hopefully, the officials will let them play a little more, which will benefit the Celtics. Also, the Celtics must show that they want it more by playing harder in this one. The Lakers showed in game 1 that they wanted it more. The Celtics must bounce back and show that they want this one more by playing harder and hustling to win all the 50/50 plays.

Today's Official Report Finals Game 2 6/6
by FLCeltsFan 9:25 AM
Today's Referees are:
Monty McCutchen
Home Team W/L 52/26
Home Team win % in Playoffs 91%
Calls 46.7 fouls per game
% of fouls called on Road Team 49.6%
Calls 1.1 Techs/g Called on Road Team
Calls .8 Techs/g called on Home Team
McCutchen has been officiating games since 1993 and wears number 13. McCutchen missed the 1998-99 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. McCutchen is a former elementary and middle school teacher and is fondly remembered by his students as a really nice guy. In searching for information on him, I found a Cavs' blog that blamed their April 4 loss to the Celtics on the officiating of Monty McCutchen. That was the game where Mike Brown was ejected and the Cavs made a furious comeback but fell short. Other than that, not a lot of controversy about McCutchen. His other Celtics games in the playoffs was the Celtics game 6 win over the Cavs and game 6 win over the Magic.
Mike Callahan
Home Team W/L 51/25
Home Team win % in Playoffs 67%
Calls 47.2 fouls per game
% of fouls called on Road Team 49.4%
Calls .7 Techs/g on Road team
Calls .7 Techs/g on Home team
Callahan has officiated over 940+ regular season games, 65+ play-off games and 5 NBA Finals games. There were a lot of complaints about Callahan's calls in the Spurs/Mavs series. His other appearancea in the Celtics' postseason were a win over Cleveland in game 4 and the game 6 win over Orlando.
Ken Mauer
Home Team W/L 41-33
Home Team win % in Playoffs 50%
Calls 43.8 fouls per game
% of fouls called on Road Team 49.1%
Calls .5 Techs/g on Road Team
Calls .7 Techs/g on Home Team
Mauer has been a referee since the 1986-87 season and has officiated over 1,200+ regular season games, 70+ play-off games and 3 NBA Finals games. Mauer is very quick to call technicals and in one game, once ejected Doc less than 3 minutes into a game. Mauer was one of the refs charged with tax evasion and obstructing federal tax laws for receiving substantial taxable income from 1989 through 1994 and failing to declare it. He was one of the refs in the controversial Miami/Dallas Finals where the foul calls were totally lopsided. He has called 4 games already for the Celtics in the playoffs, Game 4 in Miami and the Game 3 debacle against Cleveland which were both losses, and Games 1 and 6 vs Orlando, which were wins.
This is the same crew that officisted game 6 in the Orlando series. It is amazing that Mauer is calling his 5th Celtics game in these playoffs. Since this is the same crew that called game 6 in Orlando, I am also including Tim Donaghy's breakdown of the calls in that game.
1st Quarter Breakdown
11:23 Foul on Allen missed, Carter clearly fouled going up toward the basket.
9:23 Hand check foul called on Nelson, Pierce throws elbow into him and fools the referee into calling the foul on Nelson.
8:44 Cheap foul called on Lewis when Rondo drives in for a lay-up
8:27 Carter fouled; need to be consistent with the foul given to Rondo at the other end of the floor on the previous play. Carter deserves 2 shots they deserve the benefit of the same type of call at both ends.
8:09 They let Garnett elbow Howard 2x before calling the offense foul on him. Why was the first one let go?
5:11 Foul missed on Davis pushing Nelson as he drives through the lane, Nelson pushed and turns ball over.
4:41 Terrible call, Davis does not go into and through defender Lewis; he just makes a move and turns with the ball. Referee Callahan looking right at the play and passes on calling it, the outside official makes this call and is out of position with a bad angle.
3:17 Offensive foul missed on Howard, he pushes off the defender.
3:12 Foul missed as Rondo goes to the hoop on the fast break.
2:22 Foul called on Nelson. Allen and Nelson bump into each other, strange call.
2nd Quarter
8:58 Travel missed on Howard, then an offensive foul is called which sends him to the bench with 2 fouls. This is important because he is pulled out of the game. Again advantage Boston
8:01 Nelson travels prior to dribble, switches pivot foot prior to dribble, very obvious.
6:34 This is not a flagrant foul – this is not unnecessary contact, the rule states it has to be unnecessary and/or excessive contact, this clearly does not fit that.
4:22 WOW, this is the 3rd foul on Howard, NOT A FOUL. Robinson out of control going to the basket. He has 3 fouls and 2 of them are wrong.
3:19 Pierce fouled going to the basket, this foul is most likely let go because Boston is up 15 points, as the score separates the referees start to favor the team that is down.
12.6 Where is the foul, again the referees start to look at the score and favor the team that is down. Carter goes to the foul line.
Boston clearly is getting the benefit of the calls in the first half.
3rd Quarter
6:00 Travel called on Rondo, if Boston is not up 20 this is ignored. L. James (Cleveland) takes 2 more steps than this and it is never called.
4:38 Goaltending is missed; you can’t take the ball off the glass. Garnett’s block was illegal.
1:42 Cheap foul called on Allen, this is a foul called based on the score being a 22 point spread. This had no effect on the play. If the game was within 10 points this would not be called.
4th Quarter
7:39 Foul on Garnett, cheap foul based on the score. 85-65
6:03 Announcer Mike Brean makes a comment that there is plenty of time left for a come-back, anything to keep the fans tuned in.
