Only Two Regrets Over Minimalist Deadline Activity
Saturday, February 20, 2010
by Lee Lauderdale 11:14 PM
 What Might Have Been
Red Auerbach liked to say that some of the best trades are the ones you don't make. Certainly the team made a serious case for a major deadline move. The list was long and undistinguished--apathetic play, blown leads (lots of them), a distinctly pedestrian record after Christmas, turnovers spewed out like they were an art form, old injuries lingering and new ones popping up, and scoring droughts eerily balanced by a suddenly porous defense. The thirty-something crew seemed determined to remind us of why the league stopped having a Legends Game at the All-Star break. Just revisiting this list gives me the willies. It was as if the squad had hit its expiration date and overnight gone from borderline great to below average.
When the malaise seemed to run throughout the team, no addition or change of two or three players was going to alter the course. Things were so depressing that I spent the All-Star break divining a way to start the blow up rather than cobble together a fix. Only a change in attitude and direction of the entire rotation would reverse the seeming inexorable slide.
And then. Following the break they eked out a victory over the woeful Kings. The deadline passed and they played much better Thursday against the Lakers. No Kobe but we'll take the victory and more importantly the upward trend in play. The next evening they dismantled the Trailblazers with the bench affording the starters much of the night off. Apparently Danny had made all the right moves--but in fact these victories and the up tick in play was done shorthanded with House gone and the centerpiece of the only trade, and a minor one at that, laid up with the flu. Ainge brought in no game-changer, no Allen blockbuster, no sexy acquisition trumpeted in the headlines, no cavalry coming over the hill. No, this resurgence came from within. Although Pierce was still obviously affected by his maladies, he avoided letting his physical ailments create too negative an impact--no avalanche of turnovers, no flurry of attempts trying to shoot his way out of the cold spell, no denial of his current limitations that would hurt his team. As for the rest, to a man they raised their game, rediscovered their defensive identity, made wiser decisions, brought more energy, rediscovered Ubuntu.
So it is within this positive glow that I apply my 20/20 hindsight to the 2010 NBA trade deadline activity which saw an unprecedented amount of big-name movement--none of it with a green tint. Of all the major moves, only that of Caron Butler and Spencer Haywood to the Mavericks had me salivating. Those were big additions and brought Dallas from the lower playoff half into the upper echelon. I would have eagerly moved Allen's contract for this pair. So would Danny I suspect. The truth however is that Dallas sent Josh Howard over in the exchange and when he has his head on straight (perhaps not all that frequent an occurrence) he is a very attractive piece himself. Also a piece that Ainge had none comparable with which to barter. Of the other glitzy offerings, none filled me with yearning.
The real opportunity I think Danny blew was with New York. Now we did a small deal with New York, ridding D'Antoni of an irritating rock in his shoe and reuniting him with a previous favorite Eddie House. The big move by the Knicks, however, was ridding themselves of Jared Jeffries $6.9M obligation next year and freeing them to woo LeBron by also adding another max deal in addition to him. For this privilege they surrendered their 2010 #1 and the right to swap positions in 2011. Now LeBron is hardly a sure thing. Even if that part is successful the complementary pieces left in the cupboard are Eddie Curry, Chandler, and Gallanari. This might be the definition of Aces and Spaces. There are so many ways this can go wrong! For this they gave up what may be really high picks. When I consider that for the additional price of Scalabrine and Shelden Williams, Danny could have relieved them of Jeffries and gotten the shot at those lottery chances. Forget that Scal and Shelden have become human victory cigars. Forget that Jeffries, while not an offensive threat, is a long defender legitimately able to cover any of the five positions. Forget that he provides a "power three" to help contain LeBron, Kobe, or Lewis. Two shots at a high pick for Scal and Shelden? This isn't a coup; it is a steal worthy of Red. Oh what might have been! Jeffries 6.466 Robinson 4.000 10.466 / 1.25 = 8.373
House 2.933 Giddens 1.029 Walker 0.736 Scalabrine 3.414 Williams 0.825 8.936

Comments from the Other Side - Blazers 2/19
by FLCeltsFan 10:00 AM
Let's keep our fingers crossed that Roy can play the whole game.
Being a Blazer fan, I refrain from doing anything like crossing my fingers...too big an injury risk
Is Gary Coleman cleared to play for the C's tonight? If so it is game over for us because we can never seem to stop that guy.
I pick Portland. Celtics are playing after a tough one in LA last night
Blazers are due for a rough shooting night. And the Celtics are a bad team to shoot poorly against. They have excellent rebounders on that team.
The Blazers need to win this game tonight and not let Boston steel this one like they did the game in Boston. BLAZERS WIN
The blazers should try to run the Celtic outta the building
Not sure that's a good idea Boston looks pretty crisp so far (unfortunately)
But the blazers are way younger and more athletic than the Celtics are. Especially since KG and Pierce are hobbled
We got a good bench They have no bench
I have a zero tolerance policy for getting blown out by Boston
I can't stand Garnett or the rest of the Celtics, for that matter
Rondo would turn rudy/webster into all stars
Man I would love to see where Boston would be this year without rondo
Blair swallowing his whistle again
Roy just grabbed his hammy ugh
Refs are letting Celts hit him
I heard camby scream NO LAYUPS to Rudy Right as he oled his way into letting rondo score in the paint
I miss Sheed
LOL Boston would gladly give him back to you
For the record this woman on ESPN is really knowledgable and articulate and is doing a good job... Weird for a female sport announcer...
She's actually pretty good when she's not gushing about LeBron
Blazers are really hard to watch playing against well coached teams
Can the Blazers get Marcus Landry?
Roy is getting whacked a lot
Boston shooting 76 percent hmmmmmmm
Don't worry the'll go to 30 percent in the 4th
I can't believe the coaching staff doesn't know how to play Rondo after 4 years.
I think I'd rather watch fricking ice skating than a loss to Boston
To boston’s credit, you don't see their big men ever get in foul trouble
Not much of a chance in this game. The refs are really after us.
Celtics running out a layup line
While we toss up contested 20 footers… I wonder why their shooting % is so high compared to ours… it’s a mystery!
Credit the Celtics They are physical on defense and offense. Not afraid of guards setting screens for bigs and vice versa.
Watching LMA bust KG in the jaw with an elbow is worth any 1/2 game suspension that comes
I can't decide what's worse in this game
A) Our offense
B) Our defense
C) The officials’ allowing Boston to do anything they want
D) Boston somehow feeling they are getting the raw end of the fouls
Rofl @ Sheed. "THAT BALL DONT LIE!!" (when Bayless misses the FT)
Is there a mercy rule we can employ?
Way to come out motivated in the second half against what should be a tired team notorious for 3rd quarter collapses.
Fouling out their starters is the only hope
Ancient Ray killing Marty off the dribble
Is Garnett dead? Why does he let Lamarcusoftridge do power moves on him?
Dirty dirty Garnett
Celtics get a lot of T's
I can't stand Wallace
Why are we guarding Rondo at the 3-point line? Why? Why? Why?
Cuz we can't guard him inside.
Lol Scalabrini point shaver!
Scalabrine making a positive contribution LOL
it's sad that they brought him in just to do that
I guess those concussions finally got to him
That's what happens when you put in the chubby ginger
I wonder if fans will ever admit that Rasheed was one of the best Power Forwards that played for the Blazers. I think we need a couple guys on our team that had some character flaws.
We have too many nice guys.
Dang, an assassin just shot Rudy from the stands.
For some reason, he was told flopping is working tonight.
Can we get ray allen lol
They were giving him away and nobody wanted him
i freakin love him we should've even tho he is oldddd
it's his one good game for the month
This is not a fun game at all
At least Big Baby ain't on our team. He is garbage
Daniels looks like my ferret
i don't understand why sheed holds so much animosity against us. most of this town loved the guy and PA gave him a boatload of money.
he is just an angry guy
Boston deserves 2 wins for this ass whooping.

Comments from the Other Side - Lakers 2/18
by FLCeltsFan 2:01 PM
Nothing gives me more pleasure than beating the Celts!
Anything less than an ass kicking and I am disappointed.
I wanna see Bynum dunk in KG's face again.
Hard to imagine the league would allow a sweep 2 yrs in a row...
We should start Odom. We'll demolish them.
Boston Sucks! I want to see Artest push Pierce around again.
Staples staff better get the wheelchair ready.
Knowing his flair for theatrics, I expect Pierce to leave in nothing but a fully body stretcher only to come back five minutes later, more refreshed than ever. I hate that guy more than KG
He and KG deserve each other.
The lakers are all gona wish the Celtics luck against the cavs in the playoffs
Hopefully Kobe will be back for this game, but if he isn't, I am still confident that this team can still beat the Celtics.
Sasha will kill em tonight!! Lol after the near trade experience he gonna come out firing on all cylinders!!! Foston, beware of the return of the Machine!!!!
After the passing of the trade deadline and seeing Sasha/Morrison still here, my morale is down.
We should win, however Celts are putting their season on this roadie.
We got this w/ or w/out Kobe
If the Cavs lose I guarantee we will lose too. The league needs to do something to spark Celtic fans back.
Lakers need to bring it for 48 minutes. No game for 4 days after this game. Wouldn't be surprised to see Pau play 45+ minutes providing he isn't in foul trouble.
Billups got fouled at the end of the 4th and the refs didn't call it. If it wasn't for the refs perhaps we'd be watching the laker game right now..
Shaq looks as fat as ever
I love how they give Lebronze every little ticky tack foul though ...
Same (bleep) everytime! Lebron just bulldozes into the lane for a call.
Whats the matter lebron? Don't want to rap to eminem this time...clown
WOW, if you call fouls like that for James, why even bother playing the game. The defender was backing up, James initiated all the contact.
Lets get em. Boston has a better road record than home record so lets make sure we take note of that and be ready to rumble and make one of the "best shooters in NBA history" cry.
Lets be realistic here, no Kobe Bryant while facing a tough Celtic squad, I say it's a loss.
That's what we thought against Portland, SA, Utah,
None of those teams are of the caliber of the Celtics.
I say the Celts show up and play a pretty good game, but we should still be able to win.
The Jazz would kick the Celtics [expletive] right now. I don't know why you guys think the Celtics are so good...
Yes in a 7 game series. The Jazz winners of in 11 of there last 12 games, to the Celtics who stumbled into the All-Star Break winning 5 of there last 12. D-Will would destroy Rondo, and Rondo holds that team together.
Rondo has come into his own as a top PG in this league. Not saying he's better than Dwill (because he's not) but Rondo is good.
Rondo tearing Fisher up already..
Man I hate Ray Allen
Andrew not afraid of these thugs. I love it.
Man sasha v. Is completely worthless
If they don't beat us without Kobe they are really done.
Oh hey, look,, another PG that abuses the Lakers defense......
How many illegal screens do the Celtics set per game?
GarNOT with 2 fouls. Take a seat old man.
Rasheed Wallace is so done it's unebelievable.
Glen Davis is damn fat. I'd hate to play against him, he probably smells.
Wow refs are helping us out. Why don't we have calls in our favor when Kobe is playing.
Too bad McHale isn't GM anymore. Perhaps he could have sent Kevin Love to the Celtics for Scalabrine.
Why are they talking so much about the (bleep) Celtics? Aww their missing Eddie house? Poor Celtics..
Pau is too soft to even stand in the paint to initiate the triangle.
Brown should always start - just not in dunk contests
Haha they're really worried that they lost Eddie house? Really? Really?
The only thing they should be worried about is the locker room. House and Nate are both offensive players who don't pass, rebound, defend, etc.
Lakers just need to keep this game close going into half time. Celtics are a terrible 2nd half team.
Hey Sasha, the trade deadline is over..you can cut the "I Can't shoot' BS..unless its NOT BS
The Celtics as a team is pretty slow aside from Rondo. LO and Pau can take them off the dribble at will.
Celdicks not getting away with the (bleep) they normally do.
LLLLLLOVING THE REFS TONIGHT
You know the Celtic fans are going to cry about the refs....like we would be..
Celtics big 3 will foul out at the 3rd. Keep this up!
Wow refs are helping us out. We normally don't get these calls.
I just don't understand why we don't get these calls with Kobe
How is scrub Davis posting up?
Rasheed has been a disaster.
Sasha feels safe now..can go out and suck.
Phil outcoached by Rivers yet again
Sasha is the most useless basketball player in the history of western civilization.
He's great if you need a guy who does nothing but brick and foul, however.
Why Fisher does not even contest Ray Allen????? Gives him free shots
How the (bleep) do you let Ray Allen dunk on you?
We let ray Allen come back from the grave
Rondo is the best player on the Celtics. He's the guy that makes them go.
Garnett can't even average 10ppg anyone. Are you (bleep) kidding me?
Can we please get fouls on Garnett, attack that cripple.
We'd be up, if it wasn't for Farmar, Fisher and Sasha.
Ray Allen with the weakest old man flop I've ever seen...
Uh oh. Paulina is holding his hand. Someone get the wheelchair ready
I hope Pierce has a broken hand, but it probably isn't cause he'd be crying his eyes out rolling on the ground like a (bleep).
Quick, someone get a tiny wheelchair for Paulina's whittle hand
They only call real fouls on Celtics when they are up by enough points to be safe
How many team fouls do the Celtics have right now? Seems like a foul fest for them right now.
Fisher again get torched by old-ass ray Allen.
Ray Allen is cured, it's a miracle
For once we have the ft advantage.
Very sad that the Celtics have to get the calls on the road against a Kobe-less lakers just so their fans can feel better about themselves.
We have the most useless bench ever..amo, sasha, powell, Luke, fisher (should be on the bench), mbenga...
We can't blame the refs they are giving us calls. Like I said we just need to convert. Boston does not play well in 4 th quarter. I hunk they have lost 4 games (that I have watched) in the fourth when they were leadin the whole time.
The book was closed on sasha when ray Allen made him cry in the finals
SASHA HITTING SHOTS AND FLOPPING!!!
SASHA SHOULD REPLACE FISHER PERMANENTLY!
Here comes the bogus calls to help keep the Celtics in it
Garnett, throwing some elbows in there while pretending to walk away
Loved seeing Odom laugh in Garnett's face.
I feel like were gonna win this their gonna do horrible in the 4th probably.
Boston can't keep up this hot shooting. Lakers will win it.
Ray Allen is killing us
Celtics playing like they want it more, and quite frankly, they need this game more than we do
Yeah but we win this and it will push them back even further knowing that we didn't have our best player. They are playing their absolute best right now. We just need to get control of the game.
Gasoft. And more Gasoft.
Okay, Kobe needs to take over... Oh wait...
Man that's rare to see garnett REALLY frustrated like that you hardly see him let others get the best of him. Usually it's the other way around lol
Wow!!!!! We lost.
I'm impressed they lost by 1 without Kobe but wtf...they choked in the last minutes
This loss stings.
Look at like this guy, 1 point loss against the Celtics. One point, that's it. If we had Kobe this would be a win.
God, I hate the [expletive]ing Celtics. I [expletive]ing DESPISE them.
It's aight, though. Boston barely beat us without Kobe. But it does sting to lose, though. Especially to lose against Boston.
Celtics one of the worst 2nd half teams in the NBA. We're one of the best. When we were down by like 5 in the half I thought it was a W. But oh wait Nevermind.
Wow without Kobe an a game winning attempt I don't even think they have a play for another player other then Kobe
They won. Looked like complete crap while doing it, but that's besides the point. They won.
The Celtics look old. This could be the last great Laker-Celtics rivalry game. The men in green look done after this year.
KG is done. Pierce has another decent year or two left. Ray might not come back next year. Rasheed was a mistake. And Nate Robinson and Rondo will have issues. It's sad, but the Celtics won't get any better especially after this season.

The Big Bang
by Lee Lauderdale 10:25 AM
Let the Fallout Begin Let's start by stating that blowing up a team should lead directly into the lottery and that the point is to stay in the lottery for as few years as possible. From that aspect the Celtics have already missed since their first "half" record is far too good to make it into the bottom ten. However if you subscribe to the "not finding the fountain of youth" and turning back the clock then this isn't going to be a championship year. If the malaise is as pervasive as the past month has made it appear, then moving Ray for a younger shooting guard isn't going to "fix" the C's. Hence the question becomes whether starting now gives a substantial advantage over playing out the season and starting in the off season. If so, then is it possible?
Some have opined that the Big Three are untradable, at least until they become expiring contracts. I think that may be overstating the case. A decision to blow up the current aging, perhaps expired, team might offer some real opportunities if the brain trust thinks outside the box. The projected moves below utilize three principles. One, trade solutions to contenders or borderline contenders for injured and/or project-players that cannot contribute to this year’s playoff run. Two, trade expiring contracts to sellers who are trying to reduce salary commitments to avoid the Luxury Tax or just to survive financially. Accumulate picks and potential aiming to grow for the next two years and compete after the new CBA is resolved. Finally, don't worry too much about balance; accrue assets and work on the mix later.
The core of the blowup is the moving of the Big Three plus Rasheed. Some pundits think Garnett and Rasheed are particularly impossible to trade. I think there is a way and one that might bring considerable value while serving other teams well. The crux is finding fits with buyers who have specific needs and surplus (depth at strong positions) or unusable (injured) assets. Ray's market, on the other hand, is probably to the sellers. Paul should probably be the most moveable but there are those who may feel the earth will split and swallow up Danny if he divorces this career-long Celtic. Nonetheless if demolition is the course of action, all must go, and the only question is when and for how much?
The playing field has been shifting rapidly even as I put this piece together. I will illustrate by point out a couple of changes that invalidate points in some of the coming paragraphs. Or perhaps not completely invalidate since the injured players are still injured or just working their way back from injury. Travis Outlaw, once an injured Trailblazer, is now an injured Clipper. Joe Alexander, an injured Buck on rehab assignment to the D-League, may now be a Bull. Caveats in place and trade deadline looming, let's proceed.
First the injury report (or in our case the currently worthless but a potential future asset): Alexis Ajinca Charlotte (Hey, I didn't say they were all valuable) Anthony Randolph GSW Raja Bell Kelenna Azubuike Brandan Wright Troy Hudson Yao Ming Houston Brian Cook Jeff Foster Indiana Tyler Hansbrough Travis Outlaw Clippers Kareem Ruch Blake Griffin Michael Redd Milwaukee Joe Alexander Joe Przybilla Portland Greg Oden
As a buyer example consider that the Portland Trailblazers are poised on the brink of becoming a playoff team again. This is in spite of losing both Pryzbilla and Oden at center and Outlaw at small forward, all for the season or at least much of the year. They are perhaps ready to abandon the idea of building the team around Oden with his succession of injuries. I propose swapping Garnett and/or Wallace and/or Big Baby for players out for the year or backups. This would enable Portland to make a postseason run by shoring up their greatest weakness--the front line. This might work as: Garnett for Oden, Outlaw, and Webster Wallace and Davis for Oden and Outlaw Garnett and Wallace for Oden, Outlaw, Webster, Blake, and another body Wallace for Oden
As seller examples both Chicago and New York are diving for the bottom trying to clear enough cap space to pick up a two-pack at the 2010 summer superstar sale. The Celtics have $30M worth of expiring contracts; the Bulls have Hinrich and Salmons as expensive dead weight while New York is desperate to clear the onerous contracts of Jeffries and Curry. In our demolition project we want talented projects and future stars not current journeymen on bad contracts but what is it worth to the Bulls and Knicks to sit in on the free agent auction this summer. Think of it as a fixed investment (currently $65M for six players next year). Now would you rather pay that for a declining team or a rebuilding one? Can absorbing those poor contracts glean an assortment of young talent and picks as compensation for paying for the Bulls/Knicks past sins? If I were Danny I would be angling for longer-term but unprotected firsts (an unprotected 2012 and 2014 rather than a protected 2011) and second-rounders. If we are blowing it up think of Ray Allen for Jeffries, Hill, and Milicic plus #1's in 2012 and 2014; or Jeffries, Nate, Hill, and Chandler. How about Ray for Hinrich, Salmons, and a 2012?
Give people what they want now, cash in later. Larry Brown loves Sheed? How about Rasheed for Augustine, Gerald Henderson, and Ajinca or Graham? Think Larry would throw in a second or two? Miami is desperate to add a star to hold onto Wade. How about Pierce? Would Miami send Beasley, Richardson, Wright and a first? A second? Add Big Baby and Arroyo?
My point is this, if we can’t get to the Promised Land this year and next year is even less promising, then fill the immediate wishes of other teams for future promises, maybe even promises beyond the CBA turmoil. If you accept the basic, and sad, premises on the near and mid-term outlook, then this job doesn't look any easier to start this summer. Ray is only an aging sign-and-trade. If we are dismantling the Big Three, Paul may opt out and leave for nothing. KG may have had his fill of playing for a sub-par team but may not be willing to retire and may have less and less trade value. It is really hard to say what the new CBA will do to the value of expiring contracts so by the time KG is finishing he may be dead weight in more way than one.
Maybe the demolition question should be, if not now, when?

Comments from the Other Side - Kings 2/16
by FLCeltsFan 10:52 AM
Bold Proclamation:
Sean May will guard Big Baby and someone will shout “SUMO”!
The Kings will make more 3 pointers than the Celtics
Tyreke will take too many three pointers as Boston will clog the lane with Perkins and Garnett.
How about if they pit May against Davis at the tip off
And throw up a donut instead of the ball?
I’m looking forward to the brief 3rd quarter matchup of Hawes vs. Scalabrine (AKA Great White Hope vs. Great White Dope)
Noc will go off in the game and Celts forget all about wanting Kmart and will want Noc instead
I think Nocioni can be a solid contributor to teams like Boston, Atlanta, San Antonio and even Phoenix. Of them all, I think Boston might be the most likely to try to deal for Nocioni.
Kings are 6 point dogs. Am I wrong to take this as some respect? Or is Boston been playing that bad?
Ray Allen for Kevin Martin and Andres Nocioni I've seen this trade proposed on a site or two. Why in the world would the Kings even consider it? Ray Allen has to be on his last leg.
Allen is expiring. Martin has 3 years left after this season. Nocioni has 2 more years left.
The attraction for the Kings would be monetary. It would free up about an extra $17 mill this offseason when Allen comes off the books.
I have a question, since we are playing Boston. Would you guys trade away all our young talent to be in the position the Celtics were 2 years ago? To have a chance to be competitive for 2-3 years then be irrelevant again?
Over/under How many F-bombs does KG drop tonight?
Sacramento definitely knows the strategy. Run against the “old” team.
Kevin Martin is so bad at defense. LOL. The guy he was guarding threw up a pump fake, but Kevin stayed down. Then when the guy was thinking about what move he should try next, Kevin Martin jumps into the air for no reason.
We're playing reallly well and up only 4. Damn, these Celts are no joke.
Kev had Ray on skates.
Wow! Rondo for 3!
Rondo seems to have found his range playing horse.
I just realized.
We are a team who fields in a second unit of Beno, Garcia, Nocioni and JT, who are all borderline starters. Y expectations then are that our second unit kicks the Boston bench’s ass so hard, they bounce off the moon
Our bench > Celtics bench
Hey Doc! You clearly need Beno for your playoff run, really.
Garnett for Hawes and expirings
I'd rather have Hawes
Garnett looks pissed that Casspi is getting the better of him.
Donte's got no chance against Big Baby down low. But he can shoot the 3.
I just do not like Rajon Rondo. Most overhyped player in the NBA bar none.
Nice swat JT, too bad Sheed is still good.
Way too many Celtics fans at Arco tonight.
A lot of us are home watching TNT waiting for the real dunk contest to start
Big Baby is one of the few I have seen who can move Brockman
Somebody stop Sheed
Look Eddie House fans. Or maybe just those silly Celtics folk.
I do not like the Celtics much, in case you haven't noticed
But they have RONDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Celts D is ridiculous.
The Celtics bench is dominating this game.
Celts bench is killing us
Why is Beno playing? Are they trying to trade him in the next two days?
Showcasing him to the Celts.
Can't we just waive Noci? No one is going to take that garbage.
A lot of Green in that arena tonight
99.9% of the "Boston Fans" in attendance and cheering are fake. 10/1 odds.
Glen Davis is owning Thompson sad...
Cisco doesn't look rusty He looks corroded
Martin is throwing up some terrible shots.
Nothing like getting killed by House
I hate EDDIE HOUSE, he needs to get fouled hard.
Eddie House always lights the Kings up all the time and TYREKE NEEDS TO BULLY HIM!
This is a good defensive scheme to allow Perkins to get the ball under the basket ad then just block him
They're playing like us. Is it just me or has Ray Allen gotten really really bad?
Boston isn't going anywhere anymore, they are too old. Its really showing now, I have a feeling during the playoffs they won't get far and they will start dumping players fast.
Rondo is their one upstart star that is still on the upswing. Pierce can still play. KG is in full Chris Webber post injury mode. And Allen is just horrible. No wonder the Celtics fans are slobbering over K-Mart.
It was always supposed to be a 2-3 year window for them after they went old, and this is year 3. Really turned out to be a 1 1/2 year window as once KG's knee went out, so did their legitimate chances. Still got a title out of it, rejoined the elite, so it was worth it. But what comes next was always probably going to be pain.
Why do the refs love us tonight?
I love it! Kings getting away with some fouls.
Love Donte taking the ball to the hoop against KG And wow it’s depressing to watch KG at this point
KG looks like a shell of his former self
Tyreke looks like he can get by Rondo at will
Reke abused Pierce there.
Anyone else thinking that Perkins is going to hate playing us in the future?
I'd like him playing for us
He makes Dwight Howard's life miserable far too often.
If I had a penny for every flubbed Celts layup, I’d be richer than the Donald!
This may be the first game all year I'm seeing players run back on D consistently. We aren't giving them easy transition baskets.
I love watching all the Celtics fans whine about Reke "traveling"
Celtics O is making the Kings D look like the Celtics D.
Kevin is taking a beating out there. I'm scared that poor Kevy is going to get hurt..
K-Mart just getting abused tonight by Garnott.
Someone needs to remind the Celtics that they want to trade for K-Mart. Maybe then they'll stop trying to break him apart
Anybody see garnett give Greene a little shove, I hate kg
I see Sean May being abused by KG
Marquis Daniels has snakes for hair
Big Baby can’t get his fat ass up for the dunk.
If Sheed still plays for the Celtics next year I’m going to every Celtics game at Arco and paying extra for courtside seats behind their bench. I’m gonna heckle the living shit out of him so he gets pissed and gets T’ed up. If I get lucky he’ll hop into the stands and punch me. This is what I’d be willing to do to help my team!
Even with this offense we are only down 2? Celts really do need a trade
Send the Celts to the glue factory
Pierce is having a crappy game
To be fair, Allen's been playing so bad that Pierce is good by comparison
So Pierce's pivot foot drags then he lifts it a little before he puts his weight back on it and calls time. That’s not a walk?
And he threw a vicious elbow
Foul Rondo not Ray!!!
Anybody thinks Allen misses both?
Not a chance
Hey guys, do you think the Celtics still have a shot at trading for Noc with valuable expirings after this game? *note sarcasm.
A few FT's from beating a good team
Game set match... Youth fails once again in keeping it together and take down the experience...
Now let's pull for them to take down the Lakers.

Celtics Hope to Start Second Half with a Win over the Kings
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
by FLCeltsFan 3:25 PM
at ![[image]](http://spln.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p4486935reg.jpg)
Boston Celtics (32-18) at Sacramento Kings (18-34)
Tuesday, February 16
9:00 PM ET
Game #51, Road Game #27
TV: CSN-CA, CSN-NE, NBA LP 763, 764
Arco Arena
Referees: Dan Crawford, Marat Kogut, Gary Zielinski
If the Celtics are going to make a run at the championship this would be a good time to begin. They are coming off a semi rest time when they had no games. Pierce, Rondo and KG were involved in the All Star festivities and game, but should be rested in spite of all the activities in Dallas. The rest of the team are coming in after having time with family and should be well rested. Hopefully they have done some soul searching and will come back focused and ready to play Celtic basketball.
Both of these teams have been slumping of late with the Celtics going 5-5 in their last 10 games and the Kings finishing 3-7 in their last 10 games. However, the Celtics have lost their last 2 games while the Kings have won their last 2. The Celtics are 15-9 on the road while the Kings are 13-12 at home.
Going down the stretch, the Celtics can't afford to take any teams for granted and must give their total effort to win each and every game. This is the second game in a 5 game road trip that began in New Orleans before the All Star break. The Celtics have the Lakers coming up on Thursday, but they can't afford to look past the Kings to that game.
The Celtics are as healthy as they have been all season with their top 10 rotation players finally available to play. Hopefully the 6 day lay off solved any problems with Ray's back and that Pierce's foot is 100% and that KG will continue to regain his pre-injury form. It was right after the All Star break last season that KG was first injured. The Celtics are hoping for better luck this season. Marquis Daniels has looked great since his return and that is a big plus for the Celtics. Hopefully the players won't let trade talks provide yet another distraction and will start their win streak here.

Key Matchups
vs ![[image]](http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/.e1d/img/4.0/global/basketball/nba/players/4564.jpg)
Rajon Rondo 14.3 PPG 4.4 RPG 9.7 APG 52.9 FG%
Tyreke Evans 20.3 PPG 4.8 RPG 5.1 APG 46.0 FG%
Fresh off his first All Star appearance, Rondo faces a tough task in Tyreke Evans. Evans has a 6" advantage over Rondo and is every bit as quick. The Celtics need Rondo to be aggressive on both ends of the court if they want to get a win in this game.
vs ![[image]](http://msn.foxsports.com/fe/images/NBA/Headshots/140x170/3843.jpg)
Ray Allen 16.0 PPG 3.4 RPG 2.7 APG 45.0 FG%
Kevin Martin 20.8 PPG 4.4 RPG 2.7 APG 40.0 FG%
This is a very interesting matchup considering all the rumors being floated about a trade that would swap these two players. The Celtics need Ray to snap out of his recent slump and to contribute some consistent offense in order to get back to their winning ways. If Kevin Martin has his sights on Boston this would be a good time to impress Danny.
