Its a question on the lips..er...fingers of fans on blogs and in forums...Wafer or Lasme? Both players fit different roles for the C's. Wafer is being counted on as firepower off the bench to knock down 3's and go up against smaller/bigger Shooting Guards. Whereas Lasme is a bigger more mobile Forward who can matchup against SF's, PF's and some spot mins against smaller Centers.
The only problem is we are stacked with Forwards and we have quite a number of Guards.
Comments from fans:
"Wafer, no brainer, no need for a project quasi-big. That said, I think this roster spot will be beyond irrelevant."
"Lasme is a taller player who can fill in at the 3 primarily, but also a bit at the 4, and from what I'm seeing, is quite athletic, and has some basketball IQ. We'd be better off with his versatility."
"Lasme might look ok against 3rd stringers or against teams that play no defense like the Raptors or Knicks, but he simply isn't going to cut it when going up against top competition in the regular season. A lot of guys look good in preseason, but then look pathetic when things get going for real."
"Lasme should beat out Wafer for that last spot. We need a 3 who can defend the bigger 3's and Wafer isn't it. Lasme on the other hand is very capable of just that. I'd also say that rebounding on that second unit should also be considered and we would get more rebounding from Lasme than from Wafer. I think all around Lasme just brings more to the table."
"(Lasme) PF in a SF body. Can find plenty of them in D league."
"We may need Wafer's shooting because not only is Delonte out the first 10 games, he is apparently having back issues and has a history of injury, as does Daniels. It may be a tough call between Wafers shot (when it's there) and Lasme's defense."
Very interesting opinions from around C's nation. If Quisy or Allen go out with injuries, Wafer would be able to fill in that void. Delonte is already having back issues and has been injury plagued. So in that respect Wafer would be the choice.
But we've got Davis, Gody, JO'Neal, KG and Pierce at the Forwards. Lasme can play all their positions, but we seem to have plenty of backup if someone goes down.
All in all, I like Lasme and what he has done in preseason better. I like his hustle and his defense/shotblocking abilities. Wafer most likely will end up on the team, but Lasme could be picked up later if needed.
