Doc Rivers underwent minor throat surgery Sunday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital and is listed day to day. First-year Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank held team practice and will run the team in his absence.
From celtics.com: Rivers' surgery, according to Frank, was a planned procedure and is nothing serious. He is not attending practices at the moment because, as Frank said with a smile, doctors "just want him to rest his voice box -- obviously he'll be using it quite a bunch."
Rivers could return to the team as early as Tuesday, but left a practice plan for Frank. Still the team seems ready to open the season regardless when Coach Rivers returns. Boston has one preseason game left on Wednesday vs the Nets before they open the season Oct. 26th vs the Miami Heat.
The C's next practice will be Tuesday night at TD Garden.
