Here are a few comments from around the Lakers boards in anticipation of the upcoming game 1 on Thursday. Enjoy.
Boston is strong, play great defence and each player has specific role. Rondo has increased his skills significantly and they have quite strong bench also. The Finals will be quite difficult!
ron artest will kill pierce....
just KILL!
Kobe will own them. Kobe is on the mission of his life. I can't wait. Boston is in trouble.
Lakers in 6, Beat Wheelchair!!!
I hope the Lakers gets their revenge. Imagine how embarrassing it would be to lose to Boston again in the Finals we will never hear the end of it. I hope I don't see Pierce pouring the Gatorade jar to Doc Rivers.
Someone needs to elbow KG's mouth before he starts to something stupid on our players like he did with Howard.
I don't think Fisher on Rondo is as big a mismatch as people think it is. Fisher has held his own against to PGs who are better than Rondo (Williams and Nash). Nash is tougher to guard than Rondo, anyway, because he has an incredible jump shot.
If people think it's going to be anything like it was back in 08 they're in for a heck of a shock. This team is both mentally and physically better than they were before.
The Celtics are a poor 4th quarter scoring team. We just need to keep pace, control the tempo and stay close for 3 quarters and then step on the gas in the 4th qtr.
Celtics in 5 (we lucky if we push a game 6). They are a matchup nightmare for us. Reason management needs to work really hard this off season to get us a new starting PG and solidify our terrible bench. If they do their work this off-season, we may finally get to beat the Celtics. Won't hurt too that their core would be older and plagued with injuries.
The Celtixs had the mental edge over us in 2008. That and shoddy officiating crushed the Lakers. I don't see that being the case this year. I've got the Lakers in 6. I'm praying for them to sweep the Celtics but that is near impossible.
Gasol was having troubles against Admunson and Lopez, bad sign going into the Finals. Now he has to face the more physical and crafty KG,Baby, Sheed and Perkins. Forget about the first two rounds, Gasol was playing against the likes of 6'9'' Jeff Green and Boozer, but once you put size on him and be physical on him, look what happened in the PHX series. I have a bad feel Gasol is going to duplicate his '08 Finals performance against the Cs.
Ya this series really worried me gasol playing VERY soft and tenative by scrubs
I'm concerned as well. He seemed to wilt when it mattered.
This is something bigger than being soft. Gasol chokes in the big moment!
It WONT happen against the Celtics!
Will the manly Gasol stand up in the Celtics series or Perkins/Garnett mean looks scare him away.
No. He'll fold.
If he was having problems against Amare/Frye, I just don't see him improving against Garnett/Perkins
Rasheed is another tough sob that will push Gasol around.
People have to remember other than Perkins, Celtics' big men are all very mobile, so pick 'n rolls against KG, Baby and Sheed will be tough, as they rotate very well.
Big Baby is mobile??? He is seriously fat. He does pick 'n pop, the guy cannot roll.
Big Baby moves very well for a fat, pudgy guy.
he's a fast fatty. I kid you not that pile of fat can move!
I'm not going to lie, I'd love for someone to put Fat (bleep) Big Baby Davis into the ground.
Let's just accept it. We're not getting calls against Boston. Didn't then, won't happen now.
If Boston plays gasol straight up, which they will majority of the time, then Gasol will have a field day with them.
Pau is my biggest fear, he closed this series like a big soft loser. Someone needs to start slapping him around in practice, so when he faces Boston it will just seem normal.
I think Gasol has gotten a little tougher but send a 2nd defender to him and he becomes a non-factor. But I do agree that Boston front line is going to manhandle him.
We aren't going to get the calls in Boston either. So everyone saying that gasol just let refs get in his head, then samething will happen.
If all of you are counting on Odom and Gasol to step up and play tough, then it's going to be a short series with Boston winning. They are what they are: Finesse players who back down when confronted by tough guys like KG, Perkins, Wallace, etc. After years of being soft, Pau and Lamar aren't going to suddenly grow a set now; especially against these guys.
Paul Pierce's teeth annoy me ...that plus the facial hair make him look like a rat.
The team's culture is clearly evident by Scalabrine's post game interview in 2008 Finals.
Get those brooms ready cause we'll be taking out the trash in 4. Say what you want but Im certain Ill be right. The Celts just dont match up well against the Lakers.
They're annoying because they're a group of chumps that play for an organization that bought a championship and now have this strange sense of entitlement. If they were the Yankees you'd hear people all day long complaining about how they got to where they are but for some reason because it's the Celtics it's ok. With this collection of punks you have Rondo who's gotten away with murderous flagrants that last few years and is an all around douche, Garnett who continues to act like a complete prick every chance he gets, Paulina Pierce who is looking to match Meryl Streep for most Best Actress Oscars and I still haven't mention Rasheed Wallace. I freaking hate these guys.
Perkins angry face is awesome! Dude looks like he was born pissed the (bleep) off!
After winning one championship in the last 24 years, the Celtics are indignant that someone else is actually the reigning NBA champions. In fact, in the last 24 years, while the Celtics were circling the drain, the Lakers won 6 championships and Phil Jackson-coached teams won 10. Does that humble them? Uh-no.
Fortunately, Boston fans swing from being delusionally optimistic to going into apoplectic fits of despair. So let them replay Kevin McHale's clothesline and glory in Dead Red's glory days of blowing cigar smoke in his opponent's faces. These finals will be No Country For Old Men.
Can't wait for Phil to point KG's illegal screens out on his next press conference.
It didn't work out so great for us in the last series.
KG is nowhere near where he was in '08. His offense consists of 20' jumpers and his defense is almost to the point of being a liability.
Not sure if Fisher can handle ROndo's quickness. Other than that, I think Lakers starting unit are equal with Celtics. The other trouble spot that I worry about the Lakers is our BENCH. Their screw up can cost the Lakers game cause starting unit have to work harder to regain and that is not easy against Celtics.
Perkins is one tech away from a 1 game suspension. Him not being in the middle would be a huge advantage for us even for just one game.
Celtics are physically tougher, stronger and bigger down low. Celtics will completely disrupt Pau, Bynum and Odoms offense. When push comes the shoves, our boys usually shrivel. I hate to say it. But its true. We all know its true. None of our front line bigs...Play big. Either we step up the physical play. Or how do we work around it?
Lakers perimeter defense is poor. Especially against quick-driving guards. Rondo has clearly dominated the headlines as an elite pg. And Ray Allen has been driving the ball more often lately.
Lakers have serious issues to deal with. The Celtics are the worst matchup the lakers could have drawn.
God, do I hate the Celts. That's the only team I can passionately II hate them. They are all bunch of thugs, I just can't stand them.
Big 3 got worse and Rondo got better, there front line sucks Kg can't even run down the court, Perkins isn't a threat on offense but is a great post defender and sheed just camps at the 3 pt line, Artest will lock down Paula he struggled against Lebron so imagine what Ron will do,
Not having the 6-8, 230 lb dirty defender that was James Posey will hurt Boston. Tony Allen is physical but if Kobe can get airspace that's all he needs. He's not LeBron who has to beat you past the dribble to score.
Celtics arent as good as 2008.
Same exact thing Miami, Cleveland and Orlando said.
Truth be told the Celtics are no different than any of the other teams we faced these playoffs, they all lack solid interior scoring. And the Celtics really don't have the size we have.
They ain't beating Kobe twice. He's personally going to take care of their entire squad.
In the off season Garnett already guaranteed to his owner that the Celtics would win this year.
Playing against teams in the East is like playing against retarded blind children with one leg. Saying anyone in the East is playing an amazing series is comical at best. Gasol has been far more consistant and against far better competition.
