Comments from the Other Side - Nets 11/7
Saturday, November 7, 2009
by FLCeltsFan 11:15 PM
You have to feel for Nets fans. With the team dressing just 8 players, their team played with heart and never gave up, but at the end of the game, they were still 0-7.
We might go 0-82. Yeah, we might. One night we score 68 pts, the next night we give up 124 pts... We're just godawful. #1 pick here we come!!
I say 10-72.
But LeBron will come right?
Nets suck...just sayin.
This is going to be a ugly game. I hope the Nets could prove me wrong.
Can all the players maybe just pretend to be sick and not show up? I mean like pretend they got the flu for CDR. Ok I am joking but we are going to get killed
It's like sending six years old fight the war... Poor guys
Funny thins is...the Nets are far from being the most physical or hardworking team in the league. I don't think it's just a matter of bad luck, and it has something to do with the team's conditioning as well. I can take it if we are the roughest team in the league, and our players go down as a result of that. But this is pretty ridiculous
Projected starting lineup Rafer Alston / Terrence Williams / Trenton Hassell /Eduardo Najera/ Brook Lopez I see no reason why the Nets can't win with that talented starting 5. Paul Pierce won't know what hit him when T-Train starts dropping in shots from the perimeter
We're going to win tonight, count it.
Just I'magine if the Nets win. If we win, they could lose the rest of their games and I would be happy. And Hassel played 46 minutes yesterday!
Does Perkins think he's Duncan?
Whats wrong with the Nets? Were playing great.
Offensive foul. Everything is going our way. Is this really happening?
Rondo just doesn't impress me. He blends in. Such a system product.
This is fun.
So this is what having a lead feels like. I like it. But know it won't last long.
Too many turnovers.
I don't think Alston realizes that the other team is supposed to play defense and take the ball if they can.
How many of you guys didn't know Shelden Williams is Candace Parkers husband?
What is all the hype about Rondo? Alston is out-playing him on both ends of the court
I don't get the hype about the Celtics. They look pretty ordinary to me. We have 8 players and are outplaying them all the way around. They are so overrated it isn't funny.
I wish we could dump Yi. Our frontcourt is much tougher without him.
Dumping the injury prone Chinese guy would be nice.
How in the world are we up?
We scored more.
I really hope this team is ready once we start because I have a feeling the Celtics are gonna make there run to finish us in the first 4 min of the 3rd quarter...
Oh come on refs, no need to play favorites with the Celtics. What a BS "charging" foul on Brook.
Rasheed looks really out of shape!
Lawrence Frank is AN INCOMPETENT BOOB I have no idea how he is still coaches this team when he should have been canned eons ago!
Attention Russian Guy (new Nets owner) Please fire this incompetent boob so we can finally re-join the NBA
More suits then the Sopranos on the bench...
Atleast we aren't the Knicks losing 68 - 37 to the Bucks on the third quarter, on a fully healthy squad.
Kevin Garnett 3-13 from the line. If that's what he could muster against Boone I'd hate to see him go up against Pau this year.
We got beat by Brian Scalabrine... Oh the irony of it all.
I hate basketball.

Celtics Look to Keep Winless Nets Winless
by FLCeltsFan 12:36 PM

Boston Celtics (6-1) at New Jersey Nets (0-6)
Saturday, November 7
7:30 PM ET
Game #8 Away Game #4
TV: CSN HD, YES HD, LP 751, 752
Izod Center
Referees: Mark Wunderlich, Joe Forte, Eli Roe
The Nets are traditional rivals of the Celtics as we think back to the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals where the Nets defeated the Celtics in a hotly contested 6 game series. The Nets have fallen on hard times and this season are just marking time until they can make a play for LeBron or some other big free agent in 2010. Their ownership and even location are up in the air at this point and that can't make for a very stable club.
Both teams are playing in the second of back to back games and both teams had to travel the night before. New Jersey played at Philly and
Boston played the Suns at home. However, older legs have a harder time in back to back games. If the Wolves game was any indication, this may be closer than it should be. The Nets have been depleted by injuries and may run out of players at the rate they are going. They had just 4 available players off the bench last night and then Courtney Lee left the game with a leg injury. I'm not sure about his status for tonight's game.
The Nets are still winless after a 3 point loss to Philly on Friday. The Celtics are no longer undefeated so now they can get on with the rest of the season. For the second game in a row, the Celtics allowed a team to shoot over 50%. The Nets are an ideal team to get them back on track.

Random Thoughts on the First Loss
by FLCeltsFan 12:28 AM
The Celtics need to put out a wanted poster to try to find their defense. It has been missing for the past two games. After allowing the Wolves to shoot 52% from the floor, they allowed the Suns to shoot 50% from the field and 54% from beyond the arc. The Celtics need to get back to their commitment to defense. They'll never be the best defensive team ever allowing teams to shoot over 50%. And what's worse, they won't win the championship without making defense a priority.
The Celtics offense wasn't all that bad in this game. They shot 52% from the floor. But, they shot only 22% from beyond the arc. It seems that their love of the 3 point shot came back to bite them. It is so true that you live by the 3 and die by the 3. In the last 2 games, they definitely struggled from outside.
Another worrisome stat is that they shot just 50% from the line. Championship teams make their free throws. And when the other team takes 12 more free throws than you do, then you have to make the few you do get.
There was something very bothersome about this game. On one of the Suns boards, one of the posters stated that the Suns would win by 7. He said that he knew that because he had a source. There were certainly plenty of questionable calls in the game and the Suns shot 30 free throws to just 18 for the Celtics. And, points in the paint were 60-36 in favor of the Celtics, so it wasn't that the Celtics weren't going to the basket. I'd say there's something fishy here.
Once again, the starters were all in double figures, but the bench scored just 19 points. Eddie House went scoreless, going 0-3. Quisy was 4-7. Sheed was 4-12. KG played his best game since coming back from the knee surgery, scoring 26 points on 13-20 shooting. He also grabbed 8 rebounds. Perk had another solid game with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Doc had Perk on the bench during crunch time however, going instead with Sheed for his offense, which incidentally wasn't there.
Now they face the Nets on the road. The Nets are still winless and should be just what the Celtics need to get back on track. Both teams are playing in the second of back to back games after a tough one the night before. Fatigue could be a problem. But then again, even a tired Celtics team should be able to beat the Nets. Let's just hope they find their defense again because they won't get very far without it.

Comments from the Other Side - Suns 11/6
Friday, November 6, 2009
by FLCeltsFan 11:38 PM
These comments are definitely more fun to gather when the Celtics are playing well and especially when they win. Notice in the middle that one poster says that the Suns would win by 7 and that he has a source. There were a lot of questionable calls in this game. Makes you wonder. Also wondering where the Celtics' defense went to.
This will be a great test for the Suns, I know they'll show up motivated to play against a potentially NBA Finals team, we'll know where we stand a lot more after tonight. Go Suns!!
We haven't won in Boston ever since Nash came here in 04/05...and we've gotten pasted over the last two years. If we win it will be HISTORIC.
The Celts looked pretty standard-issue against the Wolves. They've got some internal troubles - Big Baby, Rondo not being much loved. I think we could steal one if we run like mad bastards and play some decent defense. You know, by PHX standards. Like don't just step out of the way of someone driving the lane ...
Boston has to lose to an inferior team eventually. Might as well be the suns.
Yeah the Celtics can't go 82-0 they have to lose eventually so maybe tonight is the night.
My hope is that Boston is spent after playing 6 games in 8 days (3 straight back-to-backs!) and don't have it going defensively. If we can form some semblance of a running game, we stand a fighting chance.
I've only seen the Celtics in highlights so far this year, but I can't see how on god's green earth we can win this game. I'd love to watch it though. Adding rasheed to an already great Celtics team is just unfair.
I say the Suns pull an upset here tonight
They want to believe they're more than people expect, and they'll rise to meet that...
Suns by 7. You heard it here first.....I have a source.
Celtics don't have the size to pound inside. They have a great team, but they don't score enough to blow anyone out. I don't see us losing by 20.
Has pierce rested yet? He won't keep up with the suns in the 4th if he doesn't..
Ah so far the refs seem to love the Celtics
How is it that I see that KG shove on my 12 inch laptop monitor complete with grainy 200x240 resolution and the refs don't? It was so obvious that that was not a normal movement when Amare ran into Rondo.
Why is this terrible blowout knicks game on ESPN instead of Suns/Celtics?
Anyone else want to punch Kendrick Perkins in the face? he's a no good thug. Hate that guy so much. I'd love to knock his teeth out personally. he's a terrible basketball player in all aspects of the game compared to what he thinks he is KG just fed his ego then he always has that I'm a thug attitude thinking he's a hard ass then he tries to start something with frye at the end of the half. F u Kendrick go flip burgers at mcdonalds we all know that's what you'll do in ten years anyways...sorry make that 7 tops.
Suns totally rule. Boston is a crappy town.
Williams was a great pickup for the Celts, especially since Big Baby started punching out his friends
Perkins would have been a good pyramid builder..
That is pretty funny...I know I wouldn't mess with him
Send Kendrick Perkins to anger management classes. Seems everytime I see him he's in the middle of something.
Tommy Heinsohn's outlandish homerism makes my brain hurt.
How I hate the Celtics
I hate the Celtics. I have no love for KG or PP either. And beating them today would be a great win, considering they are only one of two teams still undefeated and because I hate the Celtics.
Is it just common knowledge in referee circles that we are to get screwed over in every game we play?
The Suns are playing great, the Celtics look confused.
Let me give you Doc Rivers half time speech, " gentleman, William Fenton Russell has come here to see us tonight....you are not allowed to lose."
They drag out that old bag of bones every chance they get...
It's time for these Celtics to eat humble pie. Seriously. Until someone hands them a loss, we won't hear the end of it from the media and all the Boston jockriders.
Wow. Can't believe our bench is actually better than the Celtic's bench!
I like how they never call over the back on KG
I love how kg doesn't get t'ed up for his demonstrations
No kidding. Amare claps his hands and its a T but Garnett can scream and yell and...nothing.
So how about that good defense always beating good offense?
Pierce had intent to harm on that drive thru Nash, shouldve been a flagrant
It is the Garden, it is only a "hard foul" to pull out a .38 and shoot someone..
Tommy Heinsohn and all these homer Celtics fans are insisting that literally every close call has gone against the Celtics.
The refs are doing all they can to keep Boston in it...
Just saw Pierce run down Nash - bunch of punks
They wanna play "prison ball" with Nash, take out KG's fragile knee.
Take that, Celtics and your "swagger"!
Good job ESPN on picking that riveting Knicks/Cavs game! I am waiting with bated breath to see if the Knicks can get within 15!
Over on the Boston board there is a ton of crying about the refs not calling fouls. I'm pretty sure most calls went in Boston's favor.
TOMMY HEINSOHN SAID THERE WAS A FOUL SO IT MUST BE TRUE
Suns will win the Championship!!!
I don't think people realized how much a hinderence to Nash's game Shaq was last year. He couldn't be himself and Amare lacked space to operate. Shaq came saying it was ok to be the fourth option. Then Porter made him the first. Heck Lebron can''t even find a way to the rim with that boheamothe in the way.
He's a human road block.

Celtics Put Unbeaten Record On the Line Against the Suns

Phoenix Suns (4-1) at Boston Celtics (6-0)
Friday, November 6
7:30 PM ET
Game #7 Home Game #4
TV: CSN HD, My45 HD, LP 757
TD Garden
Referees: Bill Spooner, James Capers, Scott Wall
Both teams are coming in with one day rest. The Celtics are coming off a sub-par game and 2 point win over the Timberwolves. The Suns are coming in off of their first loss, a 22 point blowout loss to the Magic.
The Suns are a high scoring team, averaging 111 points per game. However, like another high scoring team that the Celtics recently faced, they aren't known for their defense, allowing 108 points per game.
Both teams get 2/3 of their points from their starters, however, the Celtics starters are doing it in approximately 130 minutes per game while the Suns Starters are averaging approximately 160 minutes per game.

Key Matchups
vs ![[image]](http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/phoenix/NashPhx.jpg)
Rajon Rondo vs Steve Nash
Rondo gets a chance to show what he can do against one of the premier PG's in the league and a 2 time MVP. He should have a speed advantage over Nash, but he will have to work on the defensive end as Nash can burn you from anywhere on the floor if you give him a step.
vs ![[image]](http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/phoenix/Amarephx.jpg)
Kevin Garnett vs Amare Stoudamire
This is a battle of two of the league's best power forwards. Hopefully KG will bounce back after a sub par defensive outing against Oleksiy Pecherov as he will need to come up big on the defensive end to keep Stoudamire from having a big game.
Honorable Mention
Celtics Bench vs Suns Bench
The Suns have a very good starting five and the two starting units match up fairly well. But, the talent falls off when the Suns' starters go to the bench. The Celtics should have an advantage when the second units are on the court.
Game Notes
• Celtics won the season series 2-0 against the Suns in 2008-09
• Rajon Rondo led the Celtics with 27.5 points per game last season
• Steve Nash averaged 15.5 points per game in the two match-ups
• It marked the first time since the 2000-01 season that the Celtics had swept the season series.
• The Celtics are leading the all-time series 61-47 with the Celtics 35-17 at home
Keys to the Game
Defense - This is the key to every win this season and to a championship as well. The Celtics lock down defense was nowhere to be found against the Wolves. They won't beat the Suns unless they get back to their trademark defense.
Ball Movement - At times during the Wolves game, the ball stopped moving. Paul Pierce, in particular, tried driving into triple teams several times instead of playing team ball. The Celtics need to move the ball and find the open man in order to stretch the Suns weak defenses.
Crash the Boards - The Celtics were out-rebounded by the Wolves and that shows a lack of effort and desire on the Celtics part. Rebounding is mostly desire and effort and the team that wants it most will win the rebounding battle.
Quick Start - The Celtics starters have started the game slowly in most of their games, getting into a hole and then having to play their way back. They need to set the tone early and get off to a quick start so that the bench comes in with a lead instead of a deficit and can build from there.
X-Factor
Bench Play
The Celtics should have an advantage when the second units are in and this could be the difference in this game if the Celtics reserves play up to their capabilities. Effort The Celtics need to play with more effort and passion than they had against the Wolves. If they come out ready to play, then we should see Gino mid 4th quarter.

Comments from the Other Side - Wolves 11/4
by FLCeltsFan 10:45 AM
The Celtics are back, healthy, and on a mission. Rasheed looks like he has been playing with them for years. I don't see how this ends well.
Yea we no chance whatsoever of winning this game. Maybe it will be a bit closer than I think because the Celtics are looking past us but they'll still blow us out.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and pick the Wolves to win.
For the remaining ex-Celtics, Jefferson + Gomes, this is still a lil personal I think, and would hope that they'd wanna stick it to their old team.
BTW, please don't expect a good game out of Flynn, Ellington, Turbo, or Hollins. The Celtics prey on young, insecure players.
I do hope that Kevin gets some serious love from the Target Center. But please, if you go to the game, don't cheer for the damn Celtics
This is going to be ugly for the Wolves. C's are on a mission.
This ain't gonna be pretty. We lose big at every position except maybe C and Big Al isn't 100% yet. Normally I'd say a loss is a loss but, with this team right now, I'd be put in a staight jacket if I held on to that mentality. Ping pong balls, baby!!!!! Just try to make it entertaining, please.
Which group is uglier btwn Celtics and twolves starters.... I think we may actually have them beat!!! Gotta be the 2 ugliest starting 5's in league, especially when the walking dead Pecherov starts.
Pecherov makes us uglier
Rondo will lock that little kid Flynn down...there's a reason Rondo is the best defensive PG in the league.
Rondo on a team with no kg, pierce, Allen, sheed = who cares.
Don't hate me, but I'm rooting for Perkins and KG because the're on my fantasy team. After Redd and Josh Howard went down I need those two guys to murder us.
Boston is a defensive buzz saw right now
Kendrick knows Al's game better than any defender in the NBA, after years of going up against him in practice, so that's definitely a matchup they like for Perk.
There honestly is not one favorable matchup for the Wolves tonight. Could be looking at 2.5 to 3 quarters of pure garbage time, which is why we'll break 65 points tonight.
Flynn gets some learning experience against one of the top PG's in the league
Brewer gets experience guarding one of the top scorers in the league
Ellington gets to watch Ray Allen and wish
I love KG
Wolves off to a good start up 19 to 14 Big AL with 7 pts already if he can get going I think we have a good chance to win this game.
Wolves are dictating the flow of this game, they are making Boston play at the Wolves pace...great 1st quarter, now we just have to do the same thing 3 more quarters.
Man, we actually look like a decent team when we can hit shots.
Offensively we've looked great so far but our D is really bad giving them open looks way too often. Luckily for us they haven't been into a rhythm yet - save for Perkins.
I'm kind of shocked we're winning. I hope Flynn gets to the line a bit more since you can't defend free throw shots.
Wolves getting no respect from the refs. Where are the replacements!
Celtics are going to turn that D on.
I wasn't expecting us to score 70 points in this game. We are already at 62! This is very impressive.
No call. Donagahy must have taken the first flight to Minneapolis so he could screw us before its too late.
Here comes the inevitable Bawstin run in the 4th
On another note, I had no idea how ugly Pecherov was. First Team All-Zombie? Has to be the ugliest guy to ever wear a Wolves uniform, and that is saying something.
Al Jefferson must defeat the Celtics while the team is still at their peak. It doesn't mean as much if Big Al has to wait for KG to turn 35.
If we are still in the game with 2 minutes left I think we have a good shot.
Shelden Williams is that you?
Oleksiy Pecherov, the Celtics killer.
Sheldon Williams is out for revenge. He actually doesn't seem to suck this season.
Fun game so far. Of course I have the feeling we're going to get screwed by the refs in the end.
I like how this Boston channel is playing this game off like Boston is tired from back to back games when the Celtics only play there starters 30 MPG
Their old and so even if they play 20 minutes, they are tired the next game.
Eddie House is murdering us violently
A win over the Celtics whether there tired or not I would take it
Someone **** GUARD RONDO!
Send Al to the D-League
The Boston veteran mentality is owning us right now. Al with a foul, we are getting way to anxious and effing up.
Pierce screws it up by trying to be the hero. Let's go T-Wolves!!!
WTH is this!? Jump ball????
These damn refs man! Come on, he just pulled him down!
The NBA is rigged.
That was freaking horrible. You got to be kidding me. Damn, the Celtics are ALWAYS getting out of here by the hair of their damn teeth!
It makes me hate the Celtics so much more. Those bastards have to go down!
Somebody call the replacement refs.
Check the replay, KG got all ball.
I just saw the reply and the ref who was the closest couldn't even see it as he was BEHIND Garnett
He clearly touched his wrists. The best part though is that the ref who made the call was standing BEHIND Garnett...
RIGGED is the only word that comes to mind
Tough loss, but the Wolves just played very well against what will probably be the best team in the league this season.
That was one of a handful of awful calls at the end. Its never easy to just say, "that's the nba, the better team / star gets it" when it is always the wolves opponent that fits that criteria. Ugh.
"loved" KG's dropping f bombs on the bos broadcast though. You stay classy Kevin
We were totally disrespected by the refs. KG first whapped him in the shoulder as he swung around his body in a wrap-around fashion, then raked his arms, then he finally lands his hand on the top of the ball.
Brewer should have been shooting two shots with a chance to send it to OT. I guarantee if it was Rip Hamiltion or something instead that is a foul. Complete disrespect from the refs. If they are intent on ****ing him over, then just no call it, how ridiculous to call a jump.
The replay I saw he didn't appear to get all ball but he got a lot of it. Brewer is generally pretty demonstrative so tough for him to sell it. Could have gone either way in my opinion.
Fwiw, kg said in the interview he was told to tap the ball far down the court since we were out of timeouts in the jump ball. It ended up out of bounds on the far side of the court so he said he thought he did a good job. Very strange call if they were really trying to do that, kg had a huge advantage on brewer in a jump. I love kg as much as the next guy, but he seemed to talk more than he acted today, decent game but far from dominant and from deserving "get that (junk) out of here" for an easy block or two. I remember the first game he played us after the trade he had the end of game steal and he acted like the Celts had just beat the 1985 lakers even though it was the pups. He had some of that attitude tonight and to be honest I wasn't really feeling it.
Good defense by Boston, we had 10 seconds to get a game tying or game winning shot up, but Boston didn't allow that...very good D by the best D in the game, Wolves played a top 5 team in the NBA real well, I hate moral victories for teams that expect to make the playoffs, but I don't expect the Wolves to make the playoffs, and I consider this game a moral victory
Why is Flynn 4 for 6 and Brewer 6 for 16??? Rambis plz tell Brewer u aren't Kobe and pass the ball...
Totall BSSSHH by the refs, nba must not want the Wolves or Thunder to win.
What a heartbreaker.
NBA TV just ripped the refs for their end of game calls in this game
It was a crappy call. But we have to face reality that Boston is going to get the benefit of the doubt based on reputation. That's the way the league is.
we are better off with the loss, but playing well.
I want a high lottery pick.

Random Thoughts on the Narrow Escape
by FLCeltsFan 10:39 AM
The Celtics team I watched play the Wolves last night didn't look in the least like the team that won the previous 5. They were flat on offense, shooting an anemic 44% from the floor and 26% from beyond the arc. And even worse, the team that hopes to become the best defensive team in NBA history allowed the Timberwolves to shoot 52%.
And who in the world is Oleksiy Pecherov?? The Wolves didn't even pick up his option. But yet, there he was, scoring 24 points on 9-14 shooting to go with his 8 rebounds. Honestly, does this guy look like a guy who could go up against KG and Perk and come out on top?
There was something really wrong here. I know Perk was mostly concentrating on Big Al and did a decent job of holding him to 18 points and 4 rebounds. But come on. KG couldn't contain this guy?
Looking at that last play again where they called the jump ball, I think if I was a Wolves fan, I'd be a little upset with the call. I know that KG got a lot of ball on that play, but the call could have gone either way. I don't like having games come down to the discretion of the ref. It should never been that close.
Pierce looked tired and went back to driving into triple teams instead of passing the ball a few times. His last jumper was flat and front rimmed. They were playing in back to back games but they played limited minutes the night before because it was a blow out. Even the bench looked out of sorts with Rasheed and Eddie shooting a combined 4-15. But, Rasheed, Eddie, Shelden and Quisy each made at least one crucial basket or play and I still see this bench winning more games than not.
It wasn't all bad though. Perk looked good with 13 points on 6-7 shooting, 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. The Sultan of Swat strikes again. And Rondo did some good things with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. All 5 starters were in double figures. And, they had only 9 turnovers.
In spite of the fact that they were out rebounded 40-36, and allowed the Wolves to shoot 52% while shooting only 44% themselves. And in spite of the fact that last night they were dying by the 3, they still got the win in the end. But, they won't win many games with the kind of effort they put out last night, especially on the defensive end. Hopefully this isn't what we can expect in back to back games all season. But in the end, the Celtics are 6-0 and still undefeated. It was experience and poise in the end that pulled it out. I guess I should be happy. Of the other top contenders, all have lost at least one game. And the Lakers have been stretched to OT in two games along with a loss. So, I'll take 6-0, even with a close win over the Timberpups.
Next up: Phoenix on Friday. Let's hope they find their defense for that game or the Suns will run them out of the building.
