Random Thoughts on a Couple of Rumors

There were a couple of rumors that hit the internet today. First, a credible source had this to say about Bruce Bowen (Also reported on CelticsBlog:
Hearing by hook or by crook – Bruce Bowen will end up a Celtic – just some buzz behind the scenes. This is interesting because of the logistics of Bowen's situation. Bowen is owed 1 more year at $4 million. The Bucks want to trade him before August 1 If they cut him before August 1, they only owe him 2 million and if they keep him beyond that, all $4 million of his contract is guaranteed. It is obvious that the Bucks aren't going to keep him. At 38 and having slowed down in recent years, he would be a good deal at the vet minimum, but not at $4 million, which would be $8 million if you figure in the luxury tax. I am thinking that all of the other teams will feel that way as well. If the Celtics really want him, the best bet is to hope that the Bucks can't deal him and that he will be waived before August 1 and then sign him for the vet minimum after he clears waivers, as I don't see a team claiming him off waivers at $4 million either. So, that is something to keep an eye on.
A second rumor is from Justin Poulin on Twitter who said that he is hearing from a source that Big Baby is on his way to the Nets in a sign and trade. Again, there are no details as to how it would work out. The Celtics will have 12 under contract now. Once they sign Daniels, hopefully it will remain 12 because they can make a sign and trade for Tony work to get him. They can afford to take back 2 for 1 if they have to to make it work. Players on the Nets in the price range to make a trade for Davis work include: Alston (5.2 million), Hassell (4.3 million), Dooling (3.5 million), Yi (3.1 million), Najera (3.1 million), Lopez (2.2 million), Hayes (2 million), Boone (2 millon), Sean Williams (1.6 million), Courtney Lee (1.2 million), and Chris Douglas Roberts (736 thousand). I really don't seen anybody other than Lopez and Courtney Lee that I really like on that roster. Yi is still intriguing and he was Danny's guy in the draft if he had made the pick. But, I still don't know if the guy can play but the rumors are that this is Danny's target. Danny had interest in Dooling last season but 3.5 million is a bit rich for him. Then of course, there is the possibility of a 3 or 4 team trade to make it work. The Celtics are still thin in the front court and need to either bring Baby back or get another big to replace him. Hakeem Warrick comes to mind. More to come, I am sure.
Also still floating around are rumors that Marbury will return to the Celtics but in all of his live broadcasts, he has been pretty careful to stay away from the topic. There was a hint that he would return if they really needed him. But he also mentioned that he is going to sign a big contract, which wouldn't come from the Celtics. More on that to come also as he seems to be broadcasting 24/7 these days on JustinTV. He is certainly gaining a lot of attention from it. The 24 hour Marburyathon was fun but last night I checked it out and he was just staring into the camera for 10 minutes and then started ranting with barely any voice left. Wojo on Yahoo feels he has totally lost it. And Gary Tanguay tweeted this as he was going on vacation:
On vaca. May check out for a bit. I have no information but it is hard to imagine Marbury a Celtic after his internet performance Another rumor just popped up as well. Jeff over on CelticsBlog is reporting that Leon Powe is considering an offer from Cleveland. He also has an offer from Dallas. I knew that some team would sign him because he will come back and he will be a very good player. As much as I don't like Cleveland, I have to root for Leon. He is and always will be one of my favorite players, no matter where he goes. In the end, one of Danny's biggest blunders will be not signing Leon to that qualifying offer or to some kind of offer. Leon will be back and he will play at a high level again. That is the kind of guy he is. You just don't find guys who will play 3 minutes on a torn achilles because their team needs them.
