Celtics Rookie JR Giddens scored a game high 25 points on 12-17 shooting to go with 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block to lead the Utah Flash over the Dakota Wizards. The win was the first ever over the Wizards in franchise history. The win also puts the Flash into the D-League finals against the Colorado 14ers.
Video Courtesy of KSL.com The Flash took a 4 point lead into halftime and it was in the 3rd quarter that Giddens went to to work, scoring 12 of his 25 points in the 3rd quarter. His layup with 8:06 left in the third, extended the Flash lead to 10 points. Giddens also came up big on the defensive end, holding the Wizards' leading scorer to just 1-6 shooting after halftime.
"I think J.R. was a big key both on the defensive end and the offensive end, obviously when he got that stretch going when he kind of got on fire," Flash coach Brad Jones said. "Yeah, he was terrific tonight." The Flash will now take on the Colorado 14ers in the best of 3 Finals beginning on Wednesday, April 22, at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah. Tipoff is set for 9:00 p.m. ET
The Southwest Division champions, the 14ers advanced to the Finals with a 114-111 victory over the Austin Toros in the semi-finals on Saturday, April 18. The Flash, the West Division champions, earned their Finals berth by defeating the Dakota Wizards 103-93 tonight in the second semi-final in Orem. The Flash last played the 14ers in a rare double header. If you remember, it was an error around the Celtics 2 rookies that the Flash protested and won that set up the double header. They played the final 25.2 seconds of that earlier game which the 14ers originally won after Bill Walker was erroneously given his 6th foul. The Flash won both games that night.
The Finals schedule is as follows: Game 1: Colorado 14ers @ Utah Flash - Wednesday, April 22, 9:00 p.m. ET Game 2: Utah Flash @ Colorado 14ers - Friday, April 24, 9:00 p.m. ET Game 3: Utah Flash @ Colorado 14ers - Monday, April 27, 9:00 p.m. ET (if necessary) As always, you can watch the Flash games on NBA Futurecast.
