The trade deadline has come and gone and the Celtics only made a couple of minor moves without bringing in any new players. They traded Patrick O'Bryant and Sam Cassell and in return got 2 open roster spots that we can assume will be filled by free agents who will be waived by their teams. The rumors have been swirling about 4 players in particular.
Stephon Marbury 2008-09 Statistics PPG 0.0 RPG 0.00 APG 0.0 EFF ? Born: Feb 20, 1977 Height: 6-2 / 1,88 Weight: 205 lbs. / 93,0 kg. College: Georgia Tech Years Pro: 12 Rumors have been swirling around about him since the beginning of the season. He has been in the dog house in New York the entire season and there have also been rumors of a buyout all season. If he indeed does get a buyout, the Celtics are rumored to be at the top of his wish list but there have also been other teams rumored to be interested in him should be be freed from New York. The Knicks were active at the deadline and brought in Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox. They may be willing to buyout Marbury, but I wouldn't bet on it.

College: Florida Years Pro: 10 Word has come out that Jason Williams has petitioned the league to be reinstated from his retirement. There is speculation that he will either go back to the Heat or sign with the Celtics. The Clippers hold his rights, but would likely just waive him rather than trying to get him to play for them.

College: Maryland Years Pro: 13 There have been rumors of a Joe Smith buyout or of him being waived for quite a while now. This seemed to be at an end when he was traded to the Hornets in the Chandler deal. But the Chandler trade fell through and Smith stayed put at the deadline which had led to more talk of a buyout. It was reported that after returning to OKC, he was keeping his fingers crossed that he wouldn't be traded so that he could be bought out and sign with the Celtics.

College: Nebraska Years Pro: 10 One of the names that surfaced just today was Mikki Moore who has already been bought out by the Kings to make room for Will Solomon. It was reported by several sources that Moore would end up in Boston. If we can't get Smith, Mikki Moore would be a nice consolation prize.
2008-09 Statistics PPG 0.0 RPG 1.00 APG 0.0 EFF + 1.00 Born: May 7, 1976 Height: 6-11 / 2,11 Weight: 230 lbs. / 104,3 kg. College: Penn State Years Pro: 9 Finally, the Globe noted that the Celtics would have interest in Calvin Booth who was traded from the Wolves to the Kings and who may be waived by them as well. This one puzzles me. Booth hasn't really done anything in his 9 year career and I don't know why we would expect him to start now. This would be my least favorite option.
One plus is that the Cavs and Lakers didn't do anything either. But, the Cavs will figure to be a foe in the bidding for both Moore and Smith. The Cavs also are looking to add a big man and can offer more than the Celtics to lure one in. Both teams are contenders but the Celtics have KG and their storied history to offer as well. If it comes down to the money, Cleveland has $5.135 million of its midlevel exception left, and Boston has $2.392 million of its midlevel remaining. There will probably be more names added as players are waived or bought out, but this is what is out there now. In order to be included on a playoff roster, players have to be waived before March 1 so we have 10 more days to watch and wait to see what Danny comes up with to fill the two roster spots he cleared.
