I will be taking a break from doing links for a few days. With Christmas less than 2 weeks away I have come to the conclusion that I had better get in gear because I haven't started shopping, decorating, baking, etc. I spend 3 hours and more a day gathering and posting links and really need to be spending those hours doing other things right now. I will resume the links as soon as I get my holidays under control. In the meantime I may post just a few tidbits that catch my attention.
Bill Walker and JR Giddens are on the D-League All Star ballot. They are playing very well there and so Celtics fans should go on over and vote for their guys.
This tidbit comes from the LA Lakers Examiner:
Thursday night I was able to clearly see the difference between the Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The Celtics led the lowly Washington Wizards by 20 points for most of the game. Late in the third quarter, the Wizards went on a run, cutting the lead to 10. Between the third and fourth quarter, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Sam Cassell got in the team's face as if to say, "are you really gonna let this team compete with us?"
The Celtics came out like a house of fire and had pushed the lead to nearly 30 midway through the fourth quarter. By the end of the fourth, the team was laughing and joking around on the bench.
So what does this prove?
Every team in the NBA, even the bad ones, goes on a run. The sign of an elite team is being able to sustain the run and answer it with a run of your own to put the opponent away. The Lakers don't seem to know how to do that.
Whether it's heart, focus, or just plain effort (maybe all three), something is missing with this team. The Celtics were embarrassed that the Wizards were competing with them. The Lakers were facing a team that dismantled them earlier in the week, and had the opportunity to bury them, show them that they had no place being on the same court as them. The Lakers have been winning, but not convincingly. They are soft. But yet, they are still the darlings of most of the media.
The Cavs on the other hand appear to be for real. They are winning and winning convincingly. They are 20-3 and breathing down the Celtics' necks. This is the team the Celtics need to be concerned about. There is a lot of hoopla about the Celtics facing the Lakers on Christmas but January 9 should be circled as well.
Impressions from NOLA.com on last night's game:
The Celtics are definitely the team to beat. They can do everything. They can penetrate, they can shoot the deep ball, they can get to the free throw line, and if all else fails, they can play defense with the best of them. As long as they are healthy they're definitely up to the challenge of defending their title.

Flash Fall 101-98 to Wizards
by FLCeltsFan 10:16 AM
Keeping an eye on our two guys in the D-League. The Flash came up short against the Wizards but both Giddens and Walker played well. Bill Walker gave the Flash a 97-96 lead with an explosive baseline dunk with 23 seconds left to play. The slam and ensuing free throw capped a three-point play, but Utah couldn't hold the lead
Walker finished with a game high 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Giddens had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal

Comments from the Other Side - Hornets
by FLCeltsFan 9:59 AM
I think stopping Rondo has to be one of the keys this time around. I remember a game last season where we focused to much attention on their big 3, and Rondo torched us early. We need to treat this guy with respect, but hopefully this time around CP will be ready for him. I have a feeling biased officiating in Boston will be a problem though Boston seems to be better this year than last year. Since it is in their place I hope it is atleast close. The big 3 is still the big 3 - Perkins, Rondo, Powe, Big Baby, Tony Allen are much better They don't have a backup PG. If Rondo get quicks foul, they are in trouble. House is not a PG, he can't guard CP and he will have lot of turnover against him - They miss Posey , they don't have a swingman who can shoot Boston looks unbeatable right now Our bench is the suspect. Our first team can run with them all day if they are on point. But once Paul, west, peja come out the points will increase their way..... One thing that is on our side...we're on a roll. I'm calling a Hornets victory. We beat em once last year, so we can beat em again this year. Boston's won 13 straight, so if we're talking momentum and swagger going into the game then Boston has that in spades. I mean sure we've been playing well of late, but that's akin to saying Mike Tyson is favored due to his size in a fight against Butterbean. I'm sure KG will try to bully anyone he faces tonight. The Hornets will have to ignore his trash-talking and also the raucous Celtics fans to maintain their focus and concentration. Tough to win on the road, against good teams, in what should be a close game. Good teams close out these tough, close games. I also wonder how often KG will feel the need to crawl on the floor It worked out really well for him the last time. The traveling in the post by Garnett is beyond ridiculous. Each foot becomes a new pivot each time he lifts it and drops it somewhere else. I realize that this is a league of the "superstar call," but watching this only contributes to an NBA game increasingly awful to watch. Dear Hornets: Someone please hit Garnett in the mouth for he has become a punk. Perkins and Garnett will probably have Hilton out there looking like a high schooler. TC doesn't scream out as being the toughess person on the court, but this is kinda strange. I highly doubt Chris Paul or Kevin Garnett would miss a big time national televised game due to Neck Spasms....I'm just saying. Lets keep leaving Eddie house and Paul pierce wide open for 3, its working! It's amazing how much Rondo and Perkins still screw up, yet their coach doesn't take them out. The sad thing is if Julian was on the Celtics he would be getting a lot more playing time than he is with the Hornets. The Celtics are in need of someone like Wright off the bench. If we had TC it would have been a different story. Celtics aren't that tough. They play dirty though and the refs let them get away with it.

Player of the Game - Paul Pierce 12/12
by FLCeltsFan 9:49 AM
The Player of the game vs the Hornets was Paul Pierce. Others played well including a double double from KG and almost double double from Perk, but Pierce stood out with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. He also played 43 minutes in the second of back to back games. One of the tough things about this team is that you never know which player is going to go off and beat you. Last night, it was Paul Pierce.

Hornets at Celtics in Pictures 12/12

by FLCeltsFan 11:27 PM
James Posey returned to the Garden for the first time since defecting to the Hornets. He received his ring before the game and finished with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 1 steal off the bench for the Hornets. He also picked up 5 fouls.
Paul Pierce continued his strong play from last game with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals in 43 minutes. He made a couple of dumb fouls though. One was where he fell for Posey's fake and fouled him shooting a 3.
Ray Allen's shot was off in this game but with Pierce being hot, his scoring wasn't needed. He finished with 9 points on 2-8 shooting with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Rondo was out played by Chris Paul in this one, but Rondo did a good job of running the team and the Celtics won so you could say he came out on top. Rondo finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Chris Paul finished with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 14 assists, and 3 steals.
KG was solid with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 1 block. He also didn't wear the white sleeve on his leg that caused some chatter among Celtics fans. He seemed to be moving fine in this game and so there doesn't seem to be a problem with it.
Tony had a quiet game with 3 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. He had one spectacular play where he got a great pass from Big Baby and hit a shot while falling to the court. Eddie House finished with 9 points and 1 rebound. Powe had 6 points, 2 rebounds and 1 block. Big Baby won the Tommy Award for his hustle and finished with 1 point, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
Perk was solid on defense again. He got tangled up with Chris Paul at one time and you could see KG grabbing him and getting him as far away as possible so as not to give the ref a reason to call a tech on him. He finished with 9 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Comments from the Other Side - Wizards
by FLCeltsFan 8:37 AM
The majority of the talk on the Wizards boards was how bad the Wizards were, rather than talking about the Celtics. At least there was no blaming the refs for this one.
This one is a lay up. We own the Cs. Hey! We almost knocked-off the Lakers when they got lazy, maybe the same will happen tonight. We're going to win by 20, easily. Darius needs to man handle KG. He made Sheed his personal beeatch the other night, he can handle KG I think Oh and I would also like to see kg taunt mcgee because he is a rookie, because kg would get the surprise of his life when he realized that mcgee doesn't back down, and will try to bang on him. I have never liked Pierce. He was a crybaby on a pathetic team, he got 2 legit All-Stars next to him, they won a championship, then he declares himself to be the best player in the world. What an a**. I'd love nothing more than to monkey stomp his a**. He always has that crying kid look on him. Rondo has been playing so well that people are calling them the big 4. He has been proving to be a floor leader, and has been breaking down defenses like nobody's business. He moves well with and without the ball. I'd take Rondo on my team over: Calderon Duhon Jason Kidd Mike Bibby TJ Ford Jameer Nelson Mo Williams ( believe me I hate to say that) I hope this paints a picture of how good this kid really is. Its easy to be good with 3 allstars around you. If Rondo was on the cavs he wouldn't be as great because he can't shoot. According to Charles Barkley we have 0 chance of winning. Interesting You cant leave Ray Allen open like that. I hate all the Celtics. One giant gang Anyone notice the Celtics look like a band of thugs and bank robbers? Paul Pierces face annoys me to no end, what a scrub Ray Allen is a nice guy but him talking about himself and how he finding the openings to the basket? How about he rains 3's all day and that's it Love the half time show.. Celtics will repeat...Kobe is the best player, Lebron cant finish and Dwight Howard and Wade aren't bad..and oh yea this non competitive wizards game is like an inter squad practice...LOL Harsh..but the truth Expect me to post everytime we do something good in this game. *I probably won't post for the rest of the night* I wish I weren't a Wizard fan right now. They really disappoint. House is my least favorite Celtic. He reminds me of damon Jones. Only good at knocking down three's, but doesn't do anything else on the floor. If this was nba jam, house would be on fire right about now. OMG Brian Scallopini is in there. This one IS over Anyone else notice we are getting worked over by their garbage min squad? Sad and pathetic

12/11 Player of the Game - Eddie House
by FLCeltsFan 8:23 AM
There could be a case made for several of the Celtics as player of the game last night. KG only scored 11 points but came close to a triple double with 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Paul Pierce had a great all around game with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists 2 steals and a block. Ray Allen continued his hot shooting with 22 points on just 8-13 shooting, hitting 5-7 beyond the arc. Tony brought energy off the bench and finished with 10 points, 3 rebounds and 5 big steals. Big Baby had one of his best games this season with 9 points and 7 rebounds.
But, the player who made the biggest impact in my opinion was Eddie House. The Celtics as a whole played one of the best stretches of basketball this season in the first half. But they got sloppy in the 3rd quarter and let a 24 point half time lead dwindle to 10. When the bench lets a lead slip, you put the starters back in to get the team back into the game. When the starters let a lead slip, it seems as though you pretty much are in trouble. But, last night, Eddie House shot the Celtics back into the game. He hit 4 straight 3 pointers to put the game back out of reach. For his leadership and marksmanship off the bench, I picked Eddie as the player of the game. Celtics at Wizards in Pictures 12/11
Thursday, December 11, 2008
by FLCeltsFan 11:22 PM
The Celtics made team history with their 13th win in a row and became the first team in Celtics history to start the season 21-2. Ray Allen continued his strong play with 22 points on 8-13 shooting and 5-7 from beyond the arc. The starters all were able to rest the last 8 1/2 minutes of the game which is good as they have back to back games and will face the Hornets next.
One of the reasons that Doc was able to give the starters a lot of rest in this game was the play of the bench. Tony Allen had 10 points, 3 rebounds and 5 steals. The Celtics need strong play from Tony for the team to be at its best.
Big Baby played well in this one with 9 points and 7 rebounds in 25 minutes. Leon made the most of his 13 minutes with 7 points and 5 rebounds. Patrick O'Bryant even got some run and finished with 2 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal. Perk finished with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block in 25 minutes.
For all those worried about Paul Pierce, you can stop now. He finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in 35 minutes of play.
Rondo just got more motivation in that he is the only one of the Celtics' starters not in the top 10 in All Star voting. If Gary Payton's comments fired him up, this should really get him going. He finished the game with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Eddie House brought energy off the bench and when the lead was cut to 10 in the 3rd quarter, Eddie's hot hand put the game out of reach. He finished with 14 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists and 1 steal.
Kevin Garnett had a strong all around game with 11 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in 27 minutes. I had to chuckle with how hard the bench players were playing at the end of the 122-88 win. You had to know they were thinking there was no way they were going to let the lead slip and have to face KG again. Much has been said about the new sleeve on KG's knee and the appearance of a limp at times. Doc insists there is nothing wrong but watching KG, you have to worry somewhat.
It is easy to notice that there are 4 green jerseys surrounding one white jersey near the basket. Where is everyone else on the Wizards? Was the sight of Scal defending the basket so daunting that they all stayed away?
Here is KG intensing on the bench. It is me or has the bench picked up their intensity since KG's little speech in the huddle the other night. I know Big Baby sure is playing with more hustle. But if I was one of KG's teammates and saw that kind of intensity on the bench, I sure wouldn't let up any.

Some Random Thoughts at 20-2
by FLCeltsFan 7:58 AM
The Celtics are 20-2 in spite of a very strenuous schedule in their first month that included 6 back to back sets. They have avenged their first loss with 2 wins against the Pacers but one of them came very close to being another loss. They are saying the right things and seem to have the right mindset, but, it is going to get harder and harder to keep winning. Every night, teams are getting prepared for them and will give their very best shot at beating the champs. It would be great if they can stay on top and have home court advantage through the playoffs again. We saw last season how important that home court was for them. But the key is for them to continue to improve, especially the bench.
The bench has been fairly inconsistent so far. One night they are stellar, the next they are getting a stern lecture from KG for being so bad. But, in fairness, they were missing Tony and didn't really have a playmaker on the court at the time that they gave up that lead and aroused KG's ire. We have a lot of young guys on the bench. Big Baby and Leon are growing game by game. Tony is still finding his way but looking good. Eddie House brings veteran leadership off the bench. And that may be why Doc has been playing Scal more. Just for some veteran leadership to keep this unit together.
Much has been made of Big Baby's crying on the bench, and from all I have read and seen, it wasn't so much what KG said to him and he wasn't upset with KG, he was upset with himself and his play that led to KG's rant. His emotion just shows how much he wants to win and I think this incident will make him a better player in the long run.
KG has taken intense to a new level. I still chuckle at the comment on one of the other boards about how if the refs don't call the fouls KG's way they are afraid that he will "intense all over the court." KG may be the only player in the league that can make intense into a verb. He holds his teammates to a high standard, one that he holds himself to by the way, and he isn't afraid to let them know when they aren't reaching it. But, give Doc credit for knowing when to let his intense star take over a huddle and for letting him make the point. There have been incidents around the league where players have taken their teammates to task in a huddle and later have been disciplined for it. Some coaches aren't secure enough to let someone else have their say. Doc really is the right coach for this team.
I love it that the Lakers are obsessed with the Celtics. The Celtics have definitely gotten in their heads and that is a good thing. I just loved that article in the OC Register where the Lakers were watching the Celtics/Pacers game in their locker room. Vujacic refuses to wear green. They are lifting weights because they are still smarting from being pushed around in the Finals. The Celtics are in their heads and that is going to give the Celtics an advantage in the long run. And speaking of the Lakers, they lost to the Kings last night.
Rajon Rondo has taken his game to another level recently. The difference in this team being good and great is Rondo's aggressiveness. When he slacks off, the Celtics as a team do also. When he is aggressive on both offense and defense, he makes the Celtics near impossible to beat. It amazes me though that people still doubt this kid. We know about Gary Payton's sour grapes. And now Indy Cornrows has this little tidbit from the OT game against the Pacers:
During the game, a scout near me responded to a carry call on Rajon Rondo with a “thank you” response. I noticed Rondo moving the ball around a lot during the Tuesday game, so I mentioned that he gets away with that quite a bit. The scout admitted he wasn’t a fan of Rondo’s game and that if he was on another team with average talent Rondo would be considered a garbage point guard. That surprised me because Rondo seems to be a good fit, but the scout’s point was that, as we witnessed first hand, finding KG running the floor or Ray Allen and Paul Pierce for kick outs would make any PG look good. Ahh, the unnamed scout. Could he be scouting for the upcoming Christmas day matchup? It is amazing how the so called experts are not willing to give the Celtics any credit. Yes, Rondo has some pretty special options to get the ball to on the offensive end. But, the key is that he gets the ball to them. His play has been stellar. If anything, he has more pressure on him playing with KG, Pierce and Ray. He had a monster triple double and that wasn't handed to him by the big three. He earned it with his play. On NBA Game time, Chris Webber gave him some love and after they quoted Perk about how Gary Payton hated on him, Payton said that Perk was his rookie when he played with the Celtics and he knows that his comments were meant to fire Rondo up to play up to his potential. Sure, Gary.
And, I can't leave out Perk. I love this kid. He has also taken his game up a notch this season. He is making strides on the offensive end and he is still one of the best post defenders in the league. He is learning how to "intense" on the court from KG and unlike KG, he doesn't have superstar status and whereas KG can get away with a look or a question, the refs are determined to make Perk into an example. I could tell the last couple games he is trying hard to control his emotions on the court without toning down his tough play. And Perk's contributions continue to go way beyond the box scores. His presence and his defense are just so important to this team. I felt bad for him when he missed those two free throws at the end of regulation vs the Pacers. You could just see by the look on his face that he was beating himself up over it. I am glad that Pierce came out of the phone booth and sent the game to regulation and it was great that Perk came back and scored the first two points in OT from the free throw line. And when you think about how young Perk and Rondo still are, there is still plenty of room for growth.
Even though the Wizards are only 3-15, it is a game that is worrisome. The Celtics in the past have had a habit of playing down to their competition. They better not take this team for granted because Butler and Jamison are still dangerous and you know they are going to be gunning for the Celtics and play them tough. After the Wizards it is the Hornets, Jazz and Hawks, all of which will give the Celtics a tough game. You have to know that James Posey will be hyped for this game and do his best to help his new team beat his old team and let the Celtics know they should have given him that 4th year.

Comments from the Other Side - Pacers
by FLCeltsFan 7:54 AM
Finally, a thread where 3/4 of it isn't dedicated to blaming the refs for the loss. That gets old after awhile. This is a tough Pacers team that is going to put it together by the end of the season. I wouldn't want to face them in the playoffs. The Pacers have always given us problems though. Maybe it is a mental thing.
Prediction: Pacers pull off the upset and win 98-96 behind Murphy's 21 and 18 and 30 by Granger. Rush will hit a big 3 in the 4th quarter. We're at home. 102-89, Indiana. Crossing my fingers, throwing pennies into a well pouring salt over my shoulder and kissing my lucky rabbit's foot. Okay, I don't have a rabbit's foot, a well, or salt handy. But I do have my crossed fingers. 6 turnovers in six minutes, can we go for 48? Thank god. Eddie House gets T'ed up. Hopefully now the Pacers can get into the game I wouldn't be surprised if Rondo has an All-Star season or two before his career is through, but not this year.
I hate the Celt's commentators...its like they are announcing golf... I don't know of any golf announcers as annoying as Tommy Heinsohn Anyone else wanna see Roy Hibbert "Melvin Ely" Kevin Garnett? Its a shooting contest between Hibby and House !! There's no way we win this game. No energy at all out there. No desire. No game plan. I just don't see us winning this game. How do you guys listen to Buckner night in and night out ??? Tommy Heinsohn didn't realize until the final moments of the first half that the Pacers had gotten back into the game. What a treasure. I hate Ray Allen No magic Rondo tonight certainly helps things out a bit. Please somebody keep an eye on Ray ! Garnett just passed George Gervin on the all-time scoring list. That's amazing - Gervin was a prolific scorer back in the day, didn't know KG was anywhere close to passing him. We could really benefit from scoring. I really hate Ray Allen They need to stop ray Allen Why couldn't we just make it a free throw contest?! Dammit someone guard ray Allen This is some terrible officiating. Seriously, do the Celtics get away with fouling more than any other team? Guard RAY ALLEN UGH Have I already said that I hate Ray Allen? I don't understand why Allen is getting so many open 3's .. This is ridiculous to the max Ray Allen is shooting video-game/Reggie Miller-esque beyond the arc. Fire Obie We lost bcuz we were out coached!
Against someone like Rondo - who you can give distance to on the perimeter - there's absolutely no excuse to not play your best PG. Ford needed to be in there during the entire final stretch, not just at the very end when he couldn't make a legitimate impact. Bad coaching Played well, should've won, freakin' Pierce and his 3. And stupid Ray Allen and his 7 3's... Next time lose in regulation and stop wasting my time. I haven't seen Ray shoot this well in a while, everything he's put up looks like it's going in. Wow.
It's almost impossible to stop Ray if he gets going like that... We were meant to suffer. That's all folks !!
Until we get blown out by the Thunder, our most disappointing loss was to the Bobcats. I swear I hate the Celtics
I like shooting guards that can shoot.
I am predicting that, by mid January , that this Pacer's team will start clicking on all cylinders and make the playoffs in the 8th spot .. We WILL face the Boston Celtics.. I also see the series going to 7 games ...
Let's see here. Who has the better players. PG-Boston SG-Boston SF-Boston PF-Boston C-Pacers?????????? (Either way I like Perkins as a physical role player.)

Player of the Game - Ray Allen
Sunday, December 7, 2008
by FLCeltsFan 11:25 PM
It is safe to say that Ray Allen has found his shot. He has played very well this season and had his best scoring game to date in this one with 35 points to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. He is one of the best pure shooters of all time.
Kevin Garnett should get honorable mention for his 20 rebounds to go with 17 points, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block. He seemed to be everywhere.
And Pierce also should be mentioned for 17 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals and the clutch 3 that sent that game into overtime.

Celtics at Pacers in Pictures
by FLCeltsFan 10:51 PM
Ray Allen has one of the sweetest jumpers of any player in league history. He was really feeling it tonight hitting 7 of 12 shots from beyond the arc and finishing with 35 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 41 minutes.
Rondo didn't have a superhuman game like he did in the last matchup with the Pacers, but he had a solid outing. He finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. He also had a very uncharacteristic 6 turnovers. He didn't seem to be as aggressive as he has been in the past few games and that may have been the difference in dominating the Pacers and squeaking past them in overtime. The Celtics seemed out of sync at times. One play that stood out was the Celtics' final possession of regulation where Rondo lofted what should have been an alley oop to KG but ended up just going out of bounds.
Perk finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block in 38 minutes. He missed 2 free throws at the end of regulation and you could tell he was beating himself up over them. He made up for it though by drawing a foul on the first possession of overtime and hit both of those free throws.
KG had a monster game on the boards finishing with 17 points, 20 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steaks and 1 block. There seemed to be no ill effects from the confrontation he had with Big Baby in the last game. Big Baby played 12 minutes and although he went scoreless, taking just one shot, he had 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
It was good to have Tony Allen back. He played almost 20 minutes off the bench and finished with 12 points and 1 rebound. He shot 50% from the field and had just 1 turnover. He makes a big difference in the play of the bench.
The bench redeemed itself somewhat after blowing the big lead in the last game. Having Tony back helped considerably. Leon Powe finished with 5 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 block. If anyone is keeping track of the "tough play of the game" feature. Leon owns that award. Also playing well was Eddie House, scoring 15 points to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Scal played just 2 minutes but hit a 3 in his time out there.
Paul Pierce stepped into the booth just long enough to hit a 3 with a defender in his face to tie the game and send it into overtime. He finished with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals.

Flash Fall to Jam 110-69
by FLCeltsFan 12:10 AM
The Utah Flash were beaten soundly by the Bakersfield Jam 110-69 in spite of a big game from Bill Walker. Only Walker and Giddens scored in double figures for the Flash while the Jam had 5 scorers in double figures.
JR Giddens had 10 points (5-10), 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in 29 minutes.
Bill Walker finished with 23 points (8-10), 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block in just 20 minutes. He was also 7-8 from the line.
