When the Boston Celtics built a new practice facility, they surrounded the court with their 16 NBA championship banners and left blank spaces for future banners. At the beginning of this season, Doc Rivers aimed a spotlight on the empty spot on the wall next to banner #16 where the 17th banner would go. This left no doubt as to what the team's goal was this season.
Today, as the three newest Celtics were introduced, the Celtics raised their 2008 Championship banner to fill the spot where that spotlight had marked the spot for it all season. No word as to whether there will be a spotlight next to banner #17 as motivation for next season.
