Shopping for a Free Agent Center?

With PJ Brown pretty much decided that he will retire, the Celtics will be in the market for a center to back up Perk. The Celtics will need to find someone to sign for the veteran minimum and also someone who will buy into Ubuntu. Scot Pollard could be an option, but with his injury history, it wouldn't be wise to depend on him. The Celtics should look elsewhere.
Here is a list of the unrestricted free agent centers that the Celtics might consider along with their 2007-08 statistics: Jamaal Magloire 30 years old, 6'11" 1.8 ppg, 2.9 rpg, .3 bpg, 9.2 mpg
Theo Ratliff 35 years old, 6'10" 4.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.5 bpg, 16.7 mpg
Patrick O'Bryant 22 years old, 7'0" 1.5 ppg, 1.2 rpg, .4bpg, 4.3 mpg
Dikembe Mutombo, 42 years old, 7'2" 3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.2 bpg 15.8 mpg Kwame Brown 26 years old, 6'11" 4.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, .6 bpg 18.8 mpg
Alonzo Mourning 38 years old, 6'10" 6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.7 bpg 15.6 mpg
Earl Barron 26 years old, 7'0" 7.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, .2 bpg, 19.4 mpg
Jake Voskuhl 30 years old, 6'11" 2.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, .5 bpg, 8.8 mpg
Michael Doleac 31 years old, 6'11" 2.4 ppg, 2.0 rpg, .4 bpg, 10.7 mpg
DeSagana Diop 26 years old, 7'0" 2.9 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.1 bpg, 16.5 mpg
Chris Anderson 29 years old 6'10" 1.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg, .8 bpg 6.8 mpg
Melvin Ely 30 years old 6'10" 3.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, .3 bpg, 12 mpg
Adonal Foyle 33 years old 6'10" 1.9 ppg, 2.5 rpg, .5 bpg, 9.5 mpg
Sean Marks 32 years old, 6'10" 3.1 ppg, 1.9 rpg, .5 bpg, 6.8 mpg
Brian Skinner 32 years old 6'9" 3.3 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.2 bpg, 12.8 mpg
Lorenzen Wright 32 years old, 6'11" .8 ppg, 2.1 rpg, .2 bpg, 9.1 mpg
Of this list, The Herald mentioned Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo as possibilities. I don't know if Mutombo is planning on playing another year or not and if he is going to play another season, I don't see him leaving Houston where he has his home and foundation. He chose to stay there last season and I believe he would stay for the same reasons this season. Mourning could be a possibility if he doesn't retire. Another player I wouldn't mind would be DeSagana Diop. I think he would be a good choice. Another possibility mentioned in today's Globe is Chris Anderson. He would also be a nice back up for Perk. Of course, the Celtics can also just go with Big Baby and Powe at back up until the trading deadline and bring PJ Brown back again for the stretch run. It worked this season.
