Here are some pre-game thoughts from around the Lakers boards. They are very confident that the Celtics will be easy pickings for them. But then again, the Celtics fans feel the same way about the Lakers. Should be an incredible series. This Finals series means more than another championship quest for the Celtics. The Celtics along with their fans are on a quest to stop Phil Jackson from winning another championship which would break his tie with Celtics legendary coach Red Auerbach for most championships as an NBA head coach. Phil vs Red- is there any fun in beating a dead guy? And I don't mean Doc Rivers either. They'll use anything to motivate themselves. I personally don't think KG and Ray Allen care much about the respective legacies of Red or Phil. They care about their own legacies more than anything. They would both be considered dissapointments if they don't win a title in Boston with the team that they have put together. C's chanting "beat LA" it's just a wish Lakers chanting "MVP MVP" that's reality That's the diffrence between their fans and ours Excited as I am to be back in the Finals, I'm just not feeling the rivalry like I used to. I just want to win, and the fact that it's the Celtics doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to me. Not like it did back in the day.
I have watched the Celtics playoffs games in the hopes of finding something to really hate them for because of the possibility of a Lakers/Celtics finals and I got to say that the only thing I hate about them is Sam Cassell selling out and abandoning the Clippers and Perkins fata$$ because we don't have a fata$$ of our own to keep him from bulldozing us. The rest of them I respect and actually enjoy watching them play. If the Lakers weren't in the finals I would actually cheer for them. Anyone remember odoms body tackle of ray Allen during their game in December? We can't let the C's claim the all time lead in NBA Championships. They already have. It's our team's quest to finally catch up, and hopefully even surpass them over the next decade. Celts Tony Allen is doubtful for the Finals. Hate to see injuries but nice break for the Lakers. That's horrible! Um, who is he again? The guy that destroyed the Lakers in LA. He played pretty solid defense on Kobe the last time we met and I'm glad they are one player shorter. Contrary to popular belief, they have a better bench than us and we need to be glad that Doc Rivers still hasn't realized it and is playing an 8 man rotation. Allen is DONE for the series. When the injury is to your Achilles tendon do you think your going to recover in just a matter of days ? Some of the dumb a$$ Celtic fans think so. They were not going to stop Kobe anyways, posey will get abused and exposed. When the Celtic players started chanting "Beat LA, Beat LA" in the locker room after beating the Pistons really got under my skin. I sure hope the Celtics come with that one-on-one basketball... They will be no match for the crisp ball movement of the Lakers. Troll from Toronto here....just wanted to say... Have fun with the parade. LAKERS IN 4! CELTICSS ARENT EVEN CLOSEEEE The Celtics tried to murder Lebron. Do you think they will trythat crap with KB 24 and if so, how do you think the Lakers willrespond to it? On NBA TV they have been showing those brutalgames of the past where McHale, and Rambis, and Kareem were ready tokick some big time a@#%. They were tring to hurtLebron and Posey is a punk. He will take a cheapshot! You think Mbenga would do after Posey.....? If I was Phil Jackson and posey takes a cheap shot at Kobe I'll put Mbenga in the game and do the same on Garnett No one on the Celtics is prepared for this, we have Kobe and fisher... Right from tipoff is when to use their experience to their advantage. Lakers-Celtics showdown was a remake in the making except this time we come out on top with the Celtics on bottom. We're gonna run circles around The Little 3. They will struggle with our speed and athletism. Our passing will be our key as well as our youth and deep bench. This serious will be longer than we like if our team doesn't get things done the right way. We better exploit the C's weakness and make them have to rely on more offense rather than just defense. That will be Boston's doom as they just won't be able to keep up with our scoring and we'll run circles around them!!
"The Little Three"? Naw, give them some credit, dude. At least give them the Big 2 1/2
I think if we play with the same defensive intensity we've played in Jazz-Spurs games and run our offense, and Doc gets creative with his rotation this series with the Celts will be short. The guy on the Lakers who gets the biggest break is Fisher. In the first round he spent a lot of time guarding Iverson. In round two he had to defend Deron Williams, and in the WCF's it was Tony Parker. Nothing against Rondo, but offensively he's not in their league. Not even close. (Had Detroit won he would have had to guard Billups) Curse the Celtics!! May their cockiness get the best of them!! We have the best coach in Phil Jackson, doc rivers has no chance of out coaching Phil, none. The Celtics will be the most physically imposing team yet. Perkins is going to be tough to handle on the boards. Do we put Pau on him? Will Odom then be able to handle Garnett? Pierce is going to be a tough matchup for both Radman and Walton. Do we have Kobe chase Ray around? The only clear advantage is Fish on Rondo.
Celtic fans are getting really arrogant up in the main forum. “OMG we won 66 games and Pierce will outplay Kobe!” Get the **** out of here, losers. The title is ours! Sorry that your grand franchise comeback will be ruined by the purple & gold, but that’s just how life is. Maybe you’ll be relevant again in another 20 years… PP is good. But he doesn't Scare me, scare me. I think he's good, but then I think of Kobe. C'mon now. If I were to ever be afraid of PP, I just think we have Kobe. A guy is is able to lock your best player down or turn around and drop 81, and still have time thank the fans and give High Fives. I think this game is going to come down to the bench. Though our bench is young and inexperienced, I think if they come in and play their faster paced game they can run the Celtics out the gym. The Celtics don't really have much off the bench
Now another mano-a-mano matchup looms for Pierce in the form of Bryant. "I think he's finally going to play against one of the better defenses in all of the NBA to where I think we can be a little bit more physical with him, limit his easy opportunities on the break and just make him work a little bit more," Pierce said Monday.
Pierce is a career loser, that's doesn't know what he is talking about. the jazz and spurs are tougher than the celtics, and they are especially tougher than pierce. i guess he figures since he's a gangbanger he plays tough defense.
Another thing PP has only played against Kobe during the reg season never at this level, It'll be interesting to see if the Celtics can step up to this level with him, if Kobe keeps his team involved and plays at the level we have all seen Paul Pierce is in for a shock...
I think the Celtics D is a little over stated. Name me one offensive juggernaut in the eastern conference. 9 out of the 15 Western Conference teams averaged over 100 points whereas only 4 of 15 Eastern Conference teams averaged over 100 points.
That idiotic comment by Pierce shows how scared the Celts really are right now. They're making themselves believe that they are that much better defensively than the former defending champs... Ha!
The Lakers just beat the defending champs, the best defensive team in the NBA in 5. What the hell was he thinking? Why did he open his mouth? That's probably how he got stabbed 11 times. For being a freaking moron.
Here's to "Celtic Pride" getting kicked in the crotch and shat on by the Lakers in the Finals, yet AGAIN
boston fans are going to chant MVP MVP after they start losing on their home court.
i think its time for kobe to take the challenge and guard pierce. pierce is their best scorer..and hopefully phil knows that and put kobe on him..
From a Celtics Fan You still don't get how much of a challenge we're going to be for you. We are not the senile Spurs on defense.
You couldn't beat Atlanta on their homecourt bud!!! Easy on the Spurs comparisons.
Right, because Celtic fans are not claiming to beat our "soft team". You guys are as cocky ( if not more) as we are. And I would say, you dont get how much of a challenge we will be for you, too.
We know what happened the last team you played an athletic team that could run the break. Lets just imagine a team 5 X better on the fastbreaks and equally efficient in half court sets and think about the trouble you might be facing.
Celts vastly underestimate us.
