This week's power rankings are up over on NBA.com and I am absolutely giddy. Not so much where the Celtics are ranked, but what they had to say about the team. As for the ranking, they are #5 behind Houston, San Antonio, Detroit, and New Orleans in that order, all of whom have perfect 3-0 records. The Celtics moved up from 7 last week to 5 this week. But, as I said, it isn't where we are ranked that has me so excited. It is the little blurb they included with the ranking. Off: 106.2 (16), Def: 90.9 (1) -- Never mind the Big Three. The Celtics are the best defensive team in the league. And they've played two of last season's top 10 offenses. The Celtics and best defensive team in the league mentioned in the same sentence without "are playing the" in between. This is so exciting. It is defense that will win a championship for this team and the fact that the Celtics are so far winning with defense is awesome. Offense may put bodies in the seats and win games, but it is defense that wins championships. It seems as though hiring Tom Thibodeau is already paying big dividends. Of course having KG on the team doesn't hurt either.
