In the Herald, Mark Murphy goes one on one with Paul Pierce. He sounds almost giddy. My favorite quote is where he gives Perk some love: “This is going to make Perk (Kendrick Perkins [stats]) a better player, too. But I thought he was starting to show his improvement late in the year. His fouls were down, and that’s him really starting to understand the NBA game in his fourth year.” The Herald also had articles on Pierce's charity game, US Training camp and Pat Riley's decision to coach the Heat for 3 more years. The Globe also has an interview with Pierce. He is coming to camp at his college playing weight and focusing on defense. He is also back in Boston already hoping to work out with RA and KG before the season. This has to make any Celtics fan excited for the season to start. I know I am.
Jeff discusses the Three Kings over on Celtics Blog. The Shamrock Headband is calling for Doc to be fired. Sports Column isn't ready to annoint the Celtics champions yet.
As for who's out there and available, Can Danny looks at the list. Foyle was waived and Golden State of Mind seems to think he is heading to Boston but the Magic have their sights set on him also. He is working out now with Clifford Ray and Robert Parish at their big man's camp in Bradenton. In the meantime, there is a thread on Celtics Blog that quotes from Israeli newspapers saying that Jasikvicus is close to signing with the Celtics. To me, this makes more sense than going after Foyle. We need a point guard much more than we need another big and we are running out of spaces for players. Since he is not a free agent, we would have to trade for him or they would have to waive him so that we could claim him off waivers.
Empty the Bench feels that the McHale has had a pretty bad offseason while another site takes a look at the trade.
Finally, Pierce was on WEEI yesterday and you can listen to the interview here. 49 days till training camp. Sounds like Paul is excited, are you?
