Celtics Get Revenge - Beat Wolves in Double OT

March 4, 2007 In an afternoon thriller, the Celtics get some revenge and beat the Timberwolves 124-117 in double overtime. There was no shortage of drama as the crowd booed Blount every time he touched the ball. Ricky had a much better reception. In a very classy move, he purchased tickets for his former Bucket Brigade fans so they could attend the game. I still like Ricky D in spite of everything. He gives it his all out there on the court and always looks like he is having fun.
The young Celtics once again came up big. Al had 20 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Al has consistently produced on both ends of the court this season and is definitely a part of our future. I hear people say Al could be traded for KG but I think given time, he may be as good as, if not better than KG for years to come. Gomes came off the bench to play 52 minutes and scored 21 points on 7-11 shooting to go with 17 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and only 1 turnover. This kid seemed to always be there for the big rebounds and put backs. He is a solid player and should be starting at the 3 instead of Scal.
Scal didn't score and was 0-5 for the game with 2 rebounds and 1 assist and 2 turnovers in 17 minutes. It was nice that at least he didn't play 30+ minutes like he did in the last game. Perk started at center and played some good defense in the paint and finished with 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block. Powe got 7 minutes off the bench and pulled down 2 rebounds and took 2 charges along with playing good defense in the paint. Good thing Doc promised that he would be getting a lot more playing time.
Pierce was off early but hit some big shots down the stretch. He is obviously still struggling to get his legs under him as many of his jumpers come up short. He finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal. He also had a team high 6 turnovers, mostly on his patented dribble in to a double or triple team and lose the ball move. He does seem to be gaining some measure of trust in his teammates, which is a good thing. Green played 31 minutes and was on the floor in crunch time and OT. He played some good defense and scored 16 points to go with 3 rebounds and 1 assist.
West finished with 31 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists and once again became the go to guy late in the game, hitting clutch free throws down the stretch. Rondo played only 12 minutes but it is very evident when he is in there that the offense runs very smoothly and consistently disrupts the opposing offense and there is no doubt that Rondo is our PG of the future. He finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Telfair once again registered a DNP.
We out rebounded the Wolves 57-27. We had 17 more offensive rebounds and that is usually a sign of hustle and desire. We are seeing the dividends from Pierce's injury in these last few games. Every game one or more of our young players step up and make a difference. We are seeing a core of players come together that are just going to keep getting better. With a new coach, a good draft pick (not necessarily the #1 pick) and possibly a vet, the sky is the limit.
