The field for this year's Dunk contest was just announced and as expected, Gerald Green has been asked to participate. His competition will include last year's champion Nate Robinson, and two other first time entrants, Orlando's Dwight Howard and Chicago's Tyrus Thomas.
The judges of this year’s Sprite Slam Dunk competition will include Michael Jordan,Dominique Wilkins, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and Julius “Dr. J” Erving.
There are two rule changes for this year’s competition: Upon receiving the ball from the referee, players will have a two-minute time limit to complete their dunk. If a player hasn’t completed a dunk when the two-minute clock expires, he will have two more attempts to do so. Also new this year is the use of television instant replay, at the discretion of the referee, for clarification of rules compliance. I think they should call this the Nate Robinson Rule since I am sure that his gazillion attempts to complete his dunk last year led the league to add the new rule.
To whet your appetite for Gerald's performance, Draft Express has a recap of the McDonald's dunk contest, which Green won. Celtics.com has a Gallery of Green's dunks.
