February 14, 2007 Happy Valentines' Day to everyone. I can't think of Valentines' Day any more without thinking about Delonte's ESPN article last year. It is worth another look. Delonte is definitely one of a kind.
The big news today is that Wally and Pierce both expect to play tonight. This will be the first time since December 16 that both will be on the floor together. Both the Herald and the Globe have stories about the much anticipated reunion. Let's hope it is enough to stop the streak.
Another emerging story is Gerald Green's preparations for the Dunk Contest. The Herald makes a mention of it in their Celtics Notebook. I love this quote from Gerald:
“I’m the GM of my own dunk night,” Green said. “I’m the Danny Ainge of my dunks. Paul will be in it, and I’m going to have a special surprise for y’all. But everyone is going to have to wait until Saturday, man.” I love it... And the Globe has an entire article about his preparation. I really, really hope he comes out and wows the world. Both Gerald and the Celtics could use the boost he would get from an overwhelming victory. On the other hand, as excited as he is about this, a loss would be terrible. Robinson shouldn't have won last year. Igoudala was clearly the best but Nate got the sympathy vote, I think. Some people are picking Robinson to repeat for the same reason. Gerald has to be head and shoulders above the rest of the field and I truly believe he will be.
Scott Souza tells us in his MetroWest Daily article that the losing streak has turned the Celtics into a spectacle, like the bearded lady of the NBA. I have to agree with him because today I found 3 articles on SI.com about the Celtics. I don't even remember that many back when the Celtics were on top of the world in '86. Jack McCallum asks which ex-Celtic player's GM job you would rather have. Kelly Dwyer looks at the best of the worst. Chris Mannix takes a look at the state of the Celtics and gives ways they feel we can restore respectability.
I say we win tonight. We have several things going in our favor. For one, Paul Pierce is very, very angry. Wally will be back tonight, although if his ankle isn't 100% he may be more of a liability than a help as he was the first time he tried to come back too quickly. But hopefully he is in good shape and will be able to hit his shots. The Bucks also have injury problems with Redd, Williams, Gadzurik, and Simmons all out. Also, the Bucks played a tough game last night against Dallas and we were off. With all those things in our favor, this is the best chance we have had of pulling out a win in a long, long time. If you can't watch the game, the next best thing is to join us on Celtics Green for the Play by Play and Q's sage commentary. We're going to win tonight...we just HAVE to!!
