Celtics Tie Record for Futility, Lose 13th in a Row

January 31, 2007 This group of Celtics are now in the record books as they tie the record for the most losses in a row as they lost tonight to the Lakers 111-98. We played better than we have recently but there was just too much Kobe who scored 43 points in spite of the Celtics best efforts to guard him. We had only 8 turnover so there was a great improvement there but we just couldn't pull out a win.
Gomes had a great game finishing with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist. I just don't understand how they could not pick him for the Sophomore All Star Game. Al seemed to struggle with his offense shooting only 3-11 but he had another double double with 10 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, 1 steal. Perk had his offense going early and played some good defense finishing with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 blocks.
Scal had one of his best games as a Celtic scoring 17 points with 1 rebound and 2 assists. Scal also won the Tommy Award for his efforts. Green played very well tonight. He was guarding Kobe and doing a decent job but Kobe made impossible shots in traffic, over double teams and no one could stop him. Gerald finished with 22 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal. Seeing his progress is encouraging. He has so much talent and he is going to be an all star one day soon.
West played in spite of being on an IV all morning to battle the flu. He didn't shoot very well, only hitting 4-13 for 10 points but he had 9 assists and 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. Wally wasn't hitting his shots either shooting only 1-5 but at least he wasn't chucking away like he has in the past. He finished with only 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Rondo finished with 2 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal and played well.
Ray played only 2 minutes and wasn't a factor. Kandi, Telfair and Powe all had DNP's. I still don't understand why Powe doesn't get more playing time. It is very puzzling since he does good things when he is on the floor. He is a hard worker and brings rebounding and toughness that we really could use. Telfair not playing is surprising too. He really has slipped down the ranks.
Friday the Clippers come into the Garden. Dickerson said that it is very obvious that the losing is getting to the players. Perk is having trouble sleeping because of it. I believe that it really bothers them. But as Doc said, if in a year or so Green is a Kobe type player and the Celtics are winning this streak won't mean anything to them. Let's hope they win on Friday and can get this monkey off their backs.
