Celtics Drop 12th in a Row to the Pacers 103-96

January 30, 2007 Different game, different opponent, same result. The Celtics had a strong first quarter and finished the first up by 6. But then, they only scored 13 points in the second and third quarters to fall behind by 20 points at the end of the third. They did stage a come back in the fourth and pulled to within 4 at one point, but fell short, losing 103-96.
Delonte West had what they called flu like symptoms and played only 12 minutes in the first half and didn't play at all in the second half. He finished with 4 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. He was obviously laboring out there on the floor and it was good that they sat him. Rondo played 25 minutes and finished with 7 points on 3-7 shooting with 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 4 turnovers. He also fouled out with 8:04 left in the 4th quarter. Telfair played 14 minutes and shot 4-11 finishing with 11 points, 1 assist and 1 steal. He is still clearly struggling with his game. Ray played 15 minutes and finished with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Where we started to fall behind, Doc had Ray in and he was on Granger who pretty much did whatever he wanted to for about 5 minutes until Doc called a time out to put the bigger lineup back in.
Green played 25 minutes and played better than he has recently finishing with 14 points on 6-10 shooting with 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Gomes had another solid game shooting 6-10 from the field and finishing with 13 points, 4 points, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Wally once again struggled with his shot going 3-13 from the floor for 8 points with 2 assists and 1 steal.
Al once again impressed with an assortment of post moves and solid play against Jermaine O'Neal. He finished with 15 points on 6-11 shooting with 17 rebounds and 2 steals. Perk picked up some quick fouls and played only 12 minutes, scoring 4 points to go with 3 rebounds, 1 assists and 1 block. Scal played 20 minutes and finished with 2 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
Kandi did a good job filling in at center scoring 8 points to go with 2 rebounds in 14 minutes. Powe once again got a 3 minute cameo and once again made the most of it scoring 2 points and pulling down 2 rebounds. I just don't understand why Doc doesn't give this kid more minutes. He brings energy and toughness and would really bring a spark if Doc would just give him some real playing time, especially on a night when no one else could seem to get anything going.
Once again, we turned the ball over way too much, giving it away 22 times. Rebounds were even at 40 although watching the game, it seemed like the Pacers out rebounded us because they were getting 2 and 3 shots almost every time down in the second and third quarter. The fouls discrepancy was huge with the Celtics called for 40 and the Pacers called for 23 fouls. Some of the fouls were bad calls but we earned most of them. This could have been the result of pushing too hard and getting too aggressive without thinking first. It just proves that we still have a long way to go.
