Celtics Drop 10th in a Row to Toronto

January 26, 2007 Stop me if you have heard this before. Celtics play hard and stage a comeback only to lose a close game in the end. Seems like that is the description of every game lately. Other than Turnovers, the Celtics seemed to out play the Raptors. Celtics shot 48% to 41% for the Raptors. Celtics out rebounded the Raptors 41-36. But the Celtics turned the ball over 20 times to only 10 for the Raptors. But we went 7 minutes in the 4th quarter without making any shots and that sealed the loss. The Raptors had a great passing game and had 27 assists on 31 field goals. I would love for the Celtics to get to that level.
Al played in spite of rolling his ankle in the last game and did very well although at one point he did ask to come out as Doc, in typical fashion, was over playing him. He once again had a double double and finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 block. He is learning how to pass out of the double teams and that is a good sign for the future when Pierce and Wally come back. Perk was obviously hurting again tonight because he wasn't moving very well and finished with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. He had some great passes that led to baskets tonight.
Gomes was 4-7 and finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Scal played 20 minutes and finished with 0 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block. He did play Bosh pretty well. Kandi played 3 minutes and had 0 points and 1 rebound. Powe's minutes are dwindling with the return of Scal but he is still making the most of his minutes finishing with 1 point and 2 rebounds in 3 minutes. He plays hard. He plays well. And yet, he gets no playing time. I still don't get it.
West played the bulk of the minutes at point guard tonight and finished with 15 points on 6-14 shooting along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Rondo played 12 minutes and was 4-7 from the field for 8 points with 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Telfair played only 5 minutes and had 3 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
Allen Ray came off the bench and kept the Celtics in the game early shooting 6-12 (3-4 from beyond the arc) with 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Green was playing on his 21st birthday. His shot was once again off and he shot 5-16 for 12 points with 3 rebounds and 1 assist.
I don't know how much stock you can put into this but I found this on one of the Raptors' boards: My insider said that most of the Celtics were up late last night partying their brains out. Much alcohol was consumed. This game is as much of a lock for the Raptors as any game this season. If this is true, I am very much disappointed. For one thing, I expect much better from this group of kids. They all seem to have good character and it would seem out of character for them. But with Green celebrating his 21st birthday, it may have a ring of truth to it. As young as these kids are, if Doc doesn't have more control of them on the road than to let them out drinking the night before a game, there is something very, very wrong. Let's just hope that it was a rumor and no substance to it.
Our next game is against another All Star as Gilbert Arenas comes to town on Sunday. We gave them as much as they could handle the last game. Let's just hope they play well. We need to learn to play more as a team and not just play well as individuals. That is when we will learn to win.
