Chad Ford Thinks the Celts are the Hardest Team to Read
Saturday, June 24, 2006

Danny is sending out lots of mixed signals. He always does. He is the King of the Smoke Screen. But I am pretty sure he is planning on drafting a big and that is why he is bringing in all the PGs to work out for him on Monday.
| • The Celtics may be the most difficult team in the draft to read. They've worked out just about everyone and have given lots of confusing signals about what they're doing.
Point guard being an obvious need, the Celtics have a big workout scheduled on Monday with Marcus Williams, Rajon Rondo, Randy Foye and Jordan Farmar.
However, they may go a completely different direction. The latest two names we hear attached to the Celtics are Ronnie Brewer (who is working out very well at every stop) and Cedric Simmons.

Power Surge Ahead as the Draft Draws Near
by FLCeltsFan 3:18 PM
June 24, 2006
I am thinking more and more that Danny is targeting Shelden Williams at #7. There are little clues that I think point to this. Danny's top 6 aren't necessarily others' picks. Doc wants a player who can help right away and Shelden is one of the few bigs who would not be a project. Danny has mentioned several times the need for a veteran Point Guard and Danny brought in several free agent PG's to work out. Danny had said that his guy was in the 12-13 range on the mocks and at the time, that is where Shelden was being listed. Danny hasn't said much of anything about Shelden, instead saying the he knew enough about him not to need him back. Shelden shut down workouts right after his Celtics workout and before he worked out for Minny who picks before us. No one is projecting him to Boston on their Mocks. And I think Shelden fits a need on our team.
| Perhaps it’s the price of big men putting a higher premium on jump shots than a post game. Or maybe you can blame it on the Europeanization of the game. But as the cast of true centers dwindles, the pool of power forwards seems to swell with each new draft. This year’s field is not an exception, and the Celtics have paid close attention for a young strong man who can back up Al Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins. Duke’s Shelden Williams, in particular, has caught their attention. They also liked Cedric Simmons enough to invite him in for a second visit.[More] source: Boston Herald

Loy's Mock
Friday, June 23, 2006
by Loyalist 3:15 AM
"And with the 7th pick in the NBA Draft, The Boston Celtics select..."
Still think we need help in the middle from an experienced NBA ready College Center, but PG just may be our most glaring hole. If so, it's hard to pass up Marcus Williams. If I am correct, Williams will be what we all hoped that that other Marcus would be.
Note: I don't expect many of my perdictions after the lottery to be close, but this draft isn't as strong as previous to be able to guess accurately. June 23, 2006

Pierce and Celts to Talk Extension
Thursday, June 22, 2006
by FLCeltsFan 10:27 AM
June 22, 2006
| Danny Ainge expects to meet soon with Paul Pierce to begin the dialogue on a contract extension for the Celtics captain. And while Antoine Walker’s recent comments that Pierce may need to go elsewhere to compete for an NBA title didn’t make the organization happy, Ainge doesn’t believe the words will affect the club’s relationship with its best player. “I’m not going to comment on that stuff,” Ainge said. “I think Paul is happy in Boston, and I guess Antoine still has some issues with us. But all my conversations with Paul have been very positive. He’s said he wants to continue his career in Boston.”[More] source:Boston Herald

Behind the Scenes for the Celtics: Mike Crotty
by FLCeltsFan 10:21 AM

| Local product settles into C's front office after stint playing against Globetrotters
By Lenny Megliola You think Michael Crotty's career path didn't have this written on it from the beginning? The very beginning?
"At one point, I was playing for seven teams," he says. OK, his dad — an ex-Marine who put in 25 years at Polaroid — was a coach, youth, high school, AAU, a basketball lifer. It became contagious. Michael was always along for the ride. Then he joined leagues, whatever ones he could get in, at 7 years old, 8, 10, 12. Two, three games in a day. No problem. The game already had its hook deep in Michael Crotty's soul. [More] source: Boston Sports Review

Big Al is Working Hard
Wednesday, June 21, 2006
by FLCeltsFan 10:14 AM
June 21, 2006
| WALTHAM -- First came the free agents for a 90-minute scrimmage, then came a handful of Celtics for a half hour of informal workouts, then remained Al Jefferson as the only player left on the Sports Authority Training Center parquet. Long after the court had cleared yesterday, Jefferson was still going through shooting drills with assistant coaches Clifford Ray and Dave Wohl. Jump shots, bank shots, drives to the basket. Left side of the key, right side of the key. Two feet from the rim when he started at 12:30 p.m. Out as far as the top of the key when he was still going strong an hour later.[More] source:

Congratulations, Miami Heat ... 2006 NBA Champions
by FLCeltsFan 12:17 AM
Congrats to the former Celtics who won their rings. Gary Payton finally got his and I am happy for him. Walker will have one up on Pierce for a year or two until Paul gets one with the Celtics. The highlight (or maybe it was the lowlight of the game) was watching Toine do "The Shimmy" while lying on the floor. June 20, 2006
| After getting 36 points from the man they call Flash, the Heat mounts the stage set up at center court to receive the Larry O'Brien Trophy -- the first for the organization in its 18-year existence. Very few in Dallas will watch as the fans stream out of this building. Only a handful are hanging around, with most casting boos in the direction of the celebration. It certainly doesn't matter to the Heat players, embracing at center court. [More] source: NBA.com

Danny In The Spotlight: Here Comes The Draft
Monday, June 19, 2006
by FLCeltsFan 11:35 PM
June 19, 2006
| Danny Ainge on draft day is like Michael Jordan in the finals. It is his moment to shine. It is when he combines his natural talent with the hundreds of lonely hours watching prospects in games and in practices and makes decisions that will shape the future of the franchise for a decade. It is where he takes the talent of Leo Papile and Chris Wallace and merges it with his own judgment.
This year’s draft is both critical and anticlimactic for the Celtics. And there is far greater intrigue concerning what the Cs might do with their pick than at any other time in recent team history, by a wide margin. That is because there is so little coherence in how to rank order the players compared to most years.[More] source: RealGM

Williams’ Comeback Trail Heads Through Boston
by FLCeltsFan 7:37 PM
Three things stand out here. First Williams wants to be a pass first PG and be a coach on the floor. I think he has the BB IQ to do it. Second Doc says he can run the pick and roll. We very much need a PG who can do so. Third Doc, without naming names said that there are a few players from this group with a good chance of making the team. Since we don't need that many players right now, does this mean that we are trading some of ours? Everything I have heard about Jay Williams has been very good. I would love to have Danny sign him. I think he would be good for this team. He has learned a lot from his ordeal and would be a good role model for the kids and he would be a good veteran PG to lead the team on the court. June 19, 2006
| WALTHAM - Three years ago today, Jay Williams almost lost his life, could have lost his leg, and may have lost his career, when he crashed his new motorcycle into a pole in Chicago.
Jay Williams heads for the hoop during free agent workouts in Waltham Monday. Now he's trying to reclaim his NBA career, barnstorming around the country's NBA franchises on a workout tour that's already brought him to Philadelphia, Toronto, New Jersey, Memphis and Phoenix. Monday, he took part in the first day of a two-day free agent camp at The Sports Authority Training Center at HealthPoint as he attempted to demonstrate to the Celtics brass that he has what it takes to resurrect his career.
